The Lion King is the second of three ‘up-close and personal’ Big Cat paintings in my “We Three Kings” series, the original was created in artist colour pencil on drafting film. The first in the series is the Tiger King, and the third will be either a cheetah or a snow leopard…I havn’t yet decided which one it will be!

Maasai Moran, Ngorongoro, Tanzania. From an original pastel painting by Angela Drysdale
This painting was created with interior house paint on canvas / H26” x W50” / Black Matte Gallery Frame / 2007 / Original – 1800.00 / ON SALE NOW! 1000.00 “Faceless,” is dedicated to all the woman and girls who suffer injustices all over the world, and remain faceless to world. Although I created this image in 2007, and had titled it “Girls,” I didn’t fully realize what it meant until just this week. In the news, a husband kills his wife, by placing a plastic bag over her head, hangs her, and flees with the three children after countless please for help to local authorities. A father is convicted of keeping his daughter locked up as a sex slave for 24 years. Daughter now 42. Many females are enslaved, murdered, raped, tortured all over the world, and many more will remain faceless to us. Stop, think, and listen.
Acrylic on canvas. Unstretched. Size is 28 X 36 inches.
Early 2007… early days of painting… Sorry – I have to go look for this title too – but promise I will update accordingly. Yip – it’s another acrylic on canvas – quite a big one like 60×90 I think.
“Little Sister” is a sibling of the cheetah cubs in the “Survivors” painting. She is one of the four cheetah cubs rescued from certain death. Oil painting on canvas (original sold). Cheetah cubs have a high mortality rate due to genetic factors and predation by carnivores in competition with the cheetah, such as the lion and hyena. Recent inbreeding causes cheetahs to share very similar genetic profiles. This has led to poor sperm, birth defects, cramped teeth, curled tails, and bent limbs. Some biologists now believe that they are too inbred to flourish as a species. Cheetahs are included on the World Conservation Union (IUCN) list of vulnerable species (African subspecies threatened, Asiatic subspecies in critical situation) as well as on the U.S. ESA: threatened species – Appendix I of CITES (Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species). Approximately 12,400 cheetahs remain in the wild in twenty-five African countries; Namibia has the most, with about 2,500. Another fifty to sixty critically endangered Asiatic cheetahs are thought to remain in Iran. There have been successful breeding programs, including the use of in-vitro fertilization, in zoos around the world. Founded in Namibia in 1990, the Cheetah Conservation Fund’s mission is to be an internationally recognised centre of excellence in research and education on cheetahs and their eco-systems, working with all stakeholders to achieve best practice in the conservation and management of the world’s cheetahs. The CCF has also set stations throughout South Africa in order to keep the conservation effort going. The Cheetah Conservation Foundation was set up in 1993 for cheetah protection. It is based in South Africa. Reference Wikipedia Wildlife, landscapes and Irish life paintings by Avril Brand Clare Art Blog

Oils on canvas. This is just an enlargement of my Cape Buffalo painting. I am so happy that / he is featured on Exotic Mammals!!! I really loved painting this animal. Every crease, wrinkle and hair changes his expression and I tried to make him look as dangerous as he is. Often covered in mud (they love to wallow – it relieves the itching of tick bites and dislodges some of the ticks as well) they have tough hides and remarkable abilities to heal if wounded. This old guy has lots of experience and has fought his share of lions. He is still in his prime but the day will come when age and younger bulls will be the end of him and the lions will have their feast. But, until that day… don’t mess with him!!!

Taken while traveling through remote Nigeria in Niger Delta Region. This young boy came running towards our vehicle and we stopped for a welcome break, after 7 hours of bumpy dusty tracks. He wanted to sell us one of his animals. I felt so sorry for him, that I give him what he asked, after being told by one of our Missionary guides he had asked the going price. I refused to take his animal, as I felt we had enough food, and he looked so thin. After this he insisted that I should visit his settlement. After much persuasion with the team We did. None had heard about Jesus and his Love. All received Jesus as Lord. We also were able to give multi-vitamin tablets to the senior elder, and he promised to give each one a Tablet every day. It was a blessing. We now have a Local Missionary who visits the settlement each week. 100% of all proceeds from sale of my art goes toward helping the extreme poor, sick and isolated in villages in Africa.. PLEASE READ THIS. Taken in Tunga/Zuga Village, remote Kebbe State. Nigeria. / My passion in life is to bless the poor by sharing some of what God has blessed me with, and allow others to share the blessings by helping, too, for Whosoever shall receive one of such children in my (Jesus’) name, receiveth me: and whosoever shall receive me, receiveth not me, but him that sent me. Mark 9:37 Salome sits at the fire and starts her day at sunrise before anyone else get up. She prepares what little food she has to feed herself, her younger sister and disabled mother. She has never been to school nor had time to play like other children. Something went very wrong when Angel, her younger sister was born and their mother was never able to walk again. Since then Salome has been caring for her mother and sister. Salome needs mechanical farm tools, seed, fertilizers, and water barrels to store water. Then she will be able to grow her own food in her family garden. I am returning to these remote villages on 15th November- 16th December 2009. Please my dear friends, pray for and help Salome, and so many in her kind of life. If you can bless her by donating towards her needs, you in turn will receive a blessing from God. Psalm 41:1-3 / 1 Blessed is he that considereth the poor: the Lord will deliver him in time of trouble. / 2 The Lord will preserve him, and keep him alive; and he shall be blessed upon the earth: and thou wilt not deliver him unto the will of his enemies. / 3 The Lord will strengthen him upon the bed of languishing: thou wilt make all his bed in his sickness.
