The Himba people live in Northern Namibia and Southern Angola. This Himba mother was photographed in her village in far Northern Namibia. The smooth reddish skin effect is achieved by daily applications of a reddish clay mixed with ash and butter. These ladies apparently never bathe in water. / 6326 views.
The beautiful Black Faced Impala is generally limited to Northern Namibia. While easy to observe in Etosha National Park, it is considered threatened because of its relatively small numbers and limited distribution. There is also thought to be the risk of interbreeding with the common impala which has been imported into game farms throughout Namibia. / 2733 views
This old bull has acquired the chalky, whitish coloration of the dry lake bed that covers most of Etosha National Park in Northern Namibia.

These refugee’s were traveling to Chad via Niger and stopped near our rig site to make repairs to their truck. After giving them water food and milk for the women, babies and children, they were gracious enough to let me take some shots. They still had 1000km to travel at this point…......Life is sometimes very cruel! Unfortunately i could not get any shots of the women and children as they were safely nestled up on top. / Shot in the Sahara desert, Libya. / Nikon D300, 24 – 120mm at 24mm, f18, 1/400, ISO 200. / / / / . /

© Aimee Stewart, Foxfires FULL VIEW IS RECOMMENDED “Daylight follows a dark night” – Maasai Proverb I’ve had this image in my head for a long time: The bravery, strength, and goodness of a people who come what may stand tall in the face of impossible odds. I truly hope this creates a story unique to each viewer’s mind.
The Namib Desert, Namibia, Southern Africa. Taken around 4pm. We had spent a good few hours trekking through the desert, with a guide showing us everything a person would need to know to survive out there alone. This was about 5 minutes away from the spot where Forsaken was taken. It’s such a vast expanse of desolation. The idea of being caught out here on your own is terrifying. Extreme temperatures and scorching sun by day, and near freezing temperature at night, it’s a place to visit, but not to stay. I wanted to capture some of that isolated, barren and incredibly steep surfaces of the dunes. I chose b&w to enhance the emptiness and ‘desertion’. Minor adjustment of contrast and saturation to enhance the dune shadows. Sold as a Matted Print Canon SX100IS MCN: C7B06-8EFFC-307D0
The Lanner Falcon is a native of all of Africa and the southern parts of Italy, Sicily, Greece and Asia Minor. / It is essentially a bird of mountainous terrain except in Africa, where it can also be found in savannahs, plains and deserts. The Lanner Falcon is a fast-flying bird and is well designed for catching birds up to the size of a Guinea Fowl, and bats, especially the larger fruit bats. / When prey of this kind is scarce, ground living mammals and lizards are taken. It will also gorge on locusts and flying termites when they are swarming. The Lanner Falcon has a shrill, piercing, almost screaming voice, similar in content to that of the Peregerine Falcon, but somewhat higher pitched. Much, but not all of the Lanner Falcon’s prey is taken in the air, when the falcon descends to its prey and binds to it with a smack which can be heard some way off. It then carries it off. / Occasionally it will strike its prey in the air and allow it to drop to the ground, collecting it there, but this is less frequent behaviour. / When defending its nesting territory, it will often stoop with tremendous force at an animal it cannot hope to kill, which seems to be, nonetheless, an effective deterrent.
