  • Into a brutal harsh desert we are born. Alone. Sentenced to wander golden dunes of time in search of meaning. Alone, we are follow an invisible path to carry us nowhere… Alone, we finally arrive at both the place we sought… and from where we first began… so many eons ago. Near Merzouga, Moroco.

  • Taken in the small dusty village of Argo, Northern Sudan during overland travels through Africa. This small boy has the most captivating expression as he watched the strangers in town go about their business.

  • Non ho piú catene ma solo piange / il cuor lontano da te / Non ho piú catene perché so che / il tuo amor é so per me…. I look to the sky and I know / where you are, what you do / and wherever you will go, / you will hear my sighs / they are only for you and / they talk about my love…. – Senza Catene – Il Divo ©2007-2008 Aimee Stewart, Foxfires / All of my artwork and photographs are © All Rights Reserved Worldwide. / My artwork and photos do not belong to the public domain.

  • This Lanner Falcon getting a little wet in a summer shower…....... (-: The Lanner Falcon is a native of all of Africa and the southern parts of Italy, Sicily, Greece and Asia Minor. / It is essentially a bird of mountainous terrain except in Africa, where it can also be found in savannahs, plains and deserts. The Lanner Falcon is a fast-flying bird and is well designed for catching birds up to the size of a Guinea Fowl, and bats, especially the larger fruit bats. / When prey of this kind is scarce, ground living mammals and lizards are taken. It will also gorge on locusts and flying termites when they are swarming. The Lanner Falcon has a shrill, piercing, almost screaming voice, similar in content to that of the Peregerine Falcon, but somewhat higher pitched. Much, but not all of the Lanner Falcon’s prey is taken in the air, when the falcon descends to its prey and binds to it with a smack which can be heard some way off. It then carries it off. / Occasionally it will strike its prey in the air and allow it to drop to the ground, collecting it there, but this is less frequent behaviour. / When defending its nesting territory, it will often stoop with tremendous force at an animal it cannot hope to kill, which seems to be, nonetheless, an effective deterrent.

  • Dead tree in the Soususvlie, Namib Desert. Namibia The Soususvlie is a lake, long since dead for hundreds of years. The trees and life within it all died as the lake dried up. Everything within has been preserved by the massive amount of salt left in the ground. The cycle of life continues as a new lake will form over the next set of sand dunes, and this soususvlie will eventually be covered with sand as the dunes gradually progress and move over time. • Baby Dama Gazelle - / Critically Endangered / Canon EOS 30D The Dama Gazelle (Nanger dama formerly Gazella dama), also known as the Addra Gazelle, is a species of gazelle. It lives in Africa in the Sahara desert and migrates south in search of food during the dry season. After the rains return and the desert plants turn green, they move north back to the Sahara. Poaching and destruction of their habitat have greatly diminished their numbers, and they no longer live in large herds. It is white with a tannish-brown head and neck. The Dama Gazelle also has a subspecies, the Mhorr Gazelle, Nanger dama mhorr, which is extinct in the wild. Its numbers have fallen by 80% over the last decade, and the Dama Gazelle is now listed as Critically Endangered, though there are still 2000 left. They occur in poor countries and little action is taken to protect the species, the national parks are not well guarded and poachings still occur. Captive populations are managed in zoos in Africa and America.

  • Rock formation in the “White Desert” in Egypt’s Great Western Desert, near Bahariya. Scan from slide film.

  • Acrylic on paper.

  • Touareg from Timbuktu. The Touareg people, without a country, lives in several regions and countries of the Sahara desert. Proudly free, they are respected for their attitude and warrior behaviour. They were the only people of the Sahara with an alphabetic writing.

  • An amazing view of the flat plains below the top of the Kuiseb Pass. / Taken with a Canon EOS40D.

  • Taken in Solitarre, Namibia. / Solitaire is a small settlement in central Namibia near the Namib-Naukluft National Park. Two antiques sit outside and welcome you. This is where we got a slice of beautiful home made apple pie. It is the most scrumptious pie you will ever eat and I think that is noted even more so due to the fact that you are graced by this delightful taste in the desert. It is fantastically unexpected. Solitaire is known in the The Netherlands from the book; Solitaire, written by Dutch author Ton van der Lee who wrote about his stay in the area.

  • Mother and baby elephant at a water hole in Etosha NP in northern Namibia. The mother kept leaning onto the poor little baby. I thought maybe he would get squished!!

  • Namib-Naukluft National Park, Namibia, Africa / Also in the Focus on wildlife / Calendar 2010 Nikon D200, Nikkor 80-400 mm, 1/250 sec at f/ 11, ISO 200 / © Konstantinos Arvanitopoulos Photography, 2009. / All Rights Reserved. —-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-— Featured in the group “A Wilderness somewhere…..”

  • Ancient dead trees (probably acacia and probably only one tree that has split under the strain of time and heat) wrestling at Sossusvlei within the Namib-Naukluft National Park. This is in the Namib desert of Namibia. / The remaining skeletons of trees here, which are believed to be about 900 years old, are now darkened because the intense sun has scorched them. The wood does not decompose because it is so dry. Featured in: - Unlimited Quality. Dec. 2009.
