Up at Glen Affric, really early, watching the sun slowly rise, illuminating trees at different distances through the mist. The best way to spend a morning.

Portrait version of the uppper reaches of Glen Affric. Suitable as a card and calendar. The landscape version probably works better as a framed print.

Glen Affric has to be the most beautiful glen in Scotland. The river Affric tumbles over stones, under bridges and though rocky narrows. Here at Dog Falls is just one of dozens of picturesque views

What do you want to know? Sunlight on early autumn morning mist in the remnant of the Caledonian Forest at Glen Affric . Taken on a Linhof Technika 5×4” camera using Fuji Velvia (RVP) film and a Rodenstock 210mm lens. Tiny flecks of bokeh are visible through the tree leaves. The scots pine trees are up to 500 years old and have been present on that site for up to 8000 years. Rescanned from my archives: originally taken in September 2006. This place is me.

My piece of heaven! Glen Affric is a highland gem with a narrow wooded glen, a beautiful rushing river, lochs, mountains, trails to explore…..perfection

These are the base of Plodda Falls in Glen Affric, Scotland. A very difficult waterfall to photograph due to the narrow gorge and force of water which creates a fine spray all around the viewing area. Focussing is hard when your lens is misted up and you’re hanging by one arm out over a raging torrent! Anyway, enough excuses, I thought this shot for all its faults captures some of the energy of this amazing place. For Canon DSLR Group / Canon EOS 450D / Tv(Shutter Speed) / 1/250Sec. / Av(Aperture Value) / F5.6 / ISO Speed / 400 / Lens / EF-S18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 IS / Focal Length / 55.0 mm

HDR view of Glen Affric. Glen Affric (Scottish Gaelic: Gleann Afaraig) is a glen south-west of the village of Cannich in the Highlands of Scotland, some 15 miles to the west of Loch Ness. The River Affric runs along its length, passing through Loch Affric and Loch Beinn a’ Mheadhoin (Loch Benevean). It used to be part of the lands of the clan Chisholm. The area is a Caledonian Forest Reserve, a National Scenic Area and a National Nature Reserve. Often described as the most beautiful glen in Scotland, it contains one of the largest ancient Caledonian pinewoods in Scotland as well as lochs, moorland and mountains.
