  • Strolling around Ghent we happened upon a small alley full of graffiti…and the evidence is obvious!

  • Mixed media on canvas (100×100cm) 2009. This painting follows a period of muted work where concious restriction of pallette aimed to fit in with the kind of work people expect to see. This is the very antithesis. I’m trying to recapture the deep saturation and rich colours I remember from that evening, the flourecent greens and yellows of the rocks and the delicate pink to blue sky hidden by the infinite filigree of tree branches. Rapidly worked in ink then tinted using transparent colour laquer in a spraycans, final touches applied in oil paint.

  • Original artwork for John Fairhursts “Joys of Spring” album (50×50) mixed media on watercolour paper 2007 CD availble from humble soul records Manchester. Johns Music is really amazing, we’ve been freinds for a number of years and when he was recording this Album he brought his equipment to my Art studio to get away from it all for a while. While he was recording I was comming up with album designs, not suprisingly it was the start of spring and after a particularly harsh winter we were both enjoying seeing the earth come back to life, as the days passed the influence on our work was visible. In this image I have used a Japanese influence in the design and composition. The stylised hawthorne tree and looking beyond to billinge hill (John is originally from billinge you see) it all ties together quite nicely. the Sky is stenciled aerosol, the foreground a mix of ink and acrylic paint. The final image was scanned by graphic designer Neil Warburton (www.iamunknown.com) and put together with his design to make the album sleeve. I fully reccomend hunting down John’s Album, its a hell of a thing, foot stomping blues and slide guitar blended with indian classical music influences, a true journey in sound.
