Jodhpur in Rajasthan is known as the ‘Blue City’ because of the beautiful shade of blue that most of the buildings are painted. This doorway was down a dark alley but the light from the top of the stairs created this wonderful array of blue hues. / More travel shots like this in: / My Adventures

A farm’s hot summer, an exploring child and his dog in beckoning hidden outerreaches, the bow of an overturned red canoe behind them in the stream. / A father runs from his pickup truck across a field in answer to their dog’s barking, to his son who’s been safely pulled from the water to the stream’s bank. I’m not sure why I painted this, but it has something to do with everything being all right after all. I wanted the trees and sky in on the emergency, a kind of frantic air that’s offset by the calmness of the waiting family dog, who knew what he was doing and how to do it. And a child who will do it all again tomorrow.

San People of the Kalahari (Bushmen) live mainly in the Kalahari Desert of Botswana and Namibia. In the past, the San have been called ‘Bushmen’ however, they are now often known as the Khoi-San to reflect their cultural affinities. / The San speak Khoisan languages characterized by click sounds. I was lucky enough to visit with them for a day and have them show me some traditional medicines and show me how they have lived in Southern Africa for thousands of years. / Genetic studies suggest that the San may represent the oldest group of humans surviving on Earth. Today, only a relatively small number of San live as traditional hunter-gatherers.
