The so called ‘Perchtenlaeufe’ have a long tradition here in Austria. At the beginning of December in many towns people dressed up wearing scary masks run around frightening children (and adults, too). They are called ‘Perchten’ and are often accompanied by Santa Claus. / The masks are traditionally hand-carved and they can be quite heavy – the whole costume can weigh up to 50 kg.

The fist of our four sundays of advent is nearing. We prepare for Christmas during these sundays, as advent comes from the Latin “adventus” which means “arrival” of the Lord. This time should be contemplative and reserved for friends and family, but has turned to commercial all the way. / Well, one of my fractals produced this candle, the first candlelight for Advent, which I want to share with you. Must be the season- my fractals produced another candle, which is very appropiate for the 2. Advent sunday. It´s even much nicer than the first. More light. A good preparation for christmas and all the candles of the christmas tree and at church. Fractal made with Apophysis.

From the Lost Villages Website: The Sandtown Advent Christian Church was originally built as an Orange Lodge, circa 1860, on Lot 22, Concession 8, Township of Osnabruck. The Advent Christian faith began worshipping in this building in 1890. This high gabled building is sided with clapboard. Its returned eaves and plain frieze give this structure an imposing look, although the interior is much more inviting. / The lower interior walls are covered in vertical butternut wood (board and batten style), and the original lathe and plaster walls have been replaced with plasterboard. The interior has been painted to match the original colour. The original cast-iron box stove, manufactured by Findlay of Almonte, Ontario, is prominent near the central aisle. There are also the original wrought-iron ceiling chandeliers with oil lamps. Donated along with the church itself were the pews, pulpit, organ, communion table, bibles, and hymn books.
