I thought I would ask the redbubble people what they are reading, I would like to know a little bit about you and your interests outside of the art that you do. I think sharing our all time favorite books or what we are reading now would be fun. / My favorite all time book so far is Hawaii by James A. Michener HERE / It had a very deep effect on me and it remains my all time favorite. I have read anything from “the National Audubon society of rocks and minerals …LOL :) to “spontaneous Healing” by Andrew Weil, M.D. or “The Art of happiness” by his Holiness The Dalai Lama. I would also be interested in the books your children are reading because I work at the local Elementary School Part time and I love to recommend good books to the Children. My eleven year old Daughter is reading “the Uglies”by Scott Westerfeld for school and she seems to really like it . One of the characters is named Shay and my daughters name is Shae as well ….only spelled different but they both seem to march to their own beat . / when she’s done I’ll probably read it myself. / HERE Funny thing though…..I stink at spelling anymore and I can’t construct a decent sentence to save my life LOL even after all the reading I do, you would think it would stick LOL …... it must be some kind of switch that’s not turned on LOL. I look forward to your favorites and I will look them up for possible future reading enjoyment. Thank you guys ;) Take care, Lisa

theres all these people – adults - / who havent totally succeeded in being an adult / or really even know what that word means.. / probably cuz they were too busy ‘trying’ to be one.. / ..when they were a kid. theres all these incomplete adults.. / who had kids. / who are absorbing the reflection – examples – of supposedly ‘adults’ theres all these adults who are finally realising about themselves, maybe – by mid 30s / their kids are blissful in primary school.. / mixing with other kids of incomplete adults there’s all these people who feel old / they just passed their 40th birthday.. / Adulthood is finally upon them, whether they want to or not.. theres all these kids trying to be adults.. / cuz adult means freedom freedom means sex drugs and rock and roll / doing what u want, when you want / freedom means money and luxuries / having it all now – and who cares about tomorrow / when no one treasures yesterday.. theres all these freedom seekers / reflection of their parents – the real adults- theres all these people – from baby to the super oldies - / swimming in each others angst and confusion / looking for the same things / Love – truth – respect – acceptance & acknowledgment theres all these people / drowning in the same shit with a different smell / trapped in the vicious circle.. / reflecting of each other - Every life challenges we cheat and run away from is a lesson we are not able to teach our children. I am sure some, or most of you would like to know a little more about me, so I thought I would give you all a little insight to understanding me! / So here goes, / I was born in a small town about 26 years ago…..... / Sorry, just kidding with that! / Seriously though, I love photgraphy and poetry. They are my two biggest passions, after my hubby of course! / I started writing poetry when I was only 12. All of my writing, to start, was very dark and sad. I quarentee if I posted my earlier writing it will bring a tear to your eye, if it doesn’t make you ball your eyes out. / I have been told that I can be closely related to Edgar Alan Poe, occasionally Robert Frost, and sometimes even Emily Dickinson. That is cool to me because they are actually my favorite 3 poets. / Recently, I found out how to write more passionately. More about love without death in it. / Since I started writing, I was told to write about what I know. most 12 year old in my class wrote about family, toys, games, occasionally love, pretty much children stuff. / I shocked my teacher when I wrote a tearful poem about a girl in World War 2 who was taken to a camp far from her family. / I shortly began writing about death and suicide and anything that pretty much was horrifying to those protected by a plastic bubble. (Though we are all safe on this bubble, we all express our true selves within this bubble. That’s why you all rock here!) / So if I post anything that may seem dark or scary, it is not my state of mind but just what I grew up around. More recenlty it has been love. So you should be safe for a while, at least until I find my earlier writing! When I was about 8 or 9, I was given a camera and asked to take a few shots of the family. It was an instant addiction! / I went to Vancouver, B.C. when I was 15, and learned how to snap shots that were absolutely postcard perfect! (Although here, you don’t see it as much because I do not get around to all of those places. Someday soon, I will be posting my younger years photos for you all to see!) / I was told so many times how beautiful my photgraphs were. So it was almost better than writing about death because I was capturing life for everyone to see. And when people had seen my photos, they did not cry. That was gratifying for me. I have always believed in expressing your true self wether it is in photos or words. If you feel bad, grab a camera and go for a walk. If you feel happy in love, grab a notepad and begin writing. (Although I did it slightly backwards!) If I make you feel joy or arousal from my writing, then that is awesome. If I make you feel sorrow or anger from my writing, well then again I did what I was trying to do. / If my photos scare you or make you laugh or be in total awe, then I am doing something right. If my photos make you think I can do better and am not doing what you think I can do, well then let me know. I can take the criticism! I also would like to let you know that with my writing, it is not always the way I truely feel when I post it. Some, yes, but pertaining to anything I write about death or pain or betrayal, it is just something that I knew best as a child and as a teen. Now, I only know what it is like to be surrounded by love. (I just like my dark poetry because it was the best writing I ever produced!) / I hope this helps anyone who may have had questions about my personality.

The child's voice and the adults who support it...

29-Jun-2008 I wrote this during the debates which ensued on the origianl entry. I thought about re-entering after editting, the original piece, and realised that now, after a few weeks have gone by, that the message WAS HEARD! The voice encouraged adult voices to speak out for themselves – their inner child and other children in the world – all in all a great response a great debate and a great opportunity for people to share and air their views on this incredibly sensitive and important topic – namely that of ‘protecting childrens’ innocence’ – at all costs! These were some reflective thoughts I had put together…..and now I thought I would share them in this journal entry….and perhaps leave it here (in writing that is)!!! / The advocacy of children and their right to protection will never be a silent voice in my heart – EVER! And a huge thanks to all that contributed to the debate – people like you make the world for children a better place to be in! with care and gratitude Suzanne / Group Leader x Below is an excerpt from my final thoughts on the matter… i am advocating that we think of the child first and foremost….and that is what everybody has been saying that agree with children not being photographed nude for artisitic reasons. If some misread me or others in the debate, or thought that I or anybody else intended anything other than that, it is an error. I, and nobody else (from what I gathered) outwardly intended to attack or offend, just simply and purely advocating on behalf of the ‘unheard child’s voice’! When I wrote ‘a Child’s Voice’ I asked that you consider the child’s voice and perspective first…that is what everybody who supports no nude photography for children on this thread have been saying. Defending childrens’ rights is something I feel, as do the majority of people in this debate, comes before defending artistic freedom – chidlren should never be put in situations that are sexually inappropriate for them for artisitic or any other purposes. If people that found objection to what was written and shared, agree with that statement then we are all saying the same thing and there is no dispute . SG

Hi Everyone, / I am contemplating publishing a book of my contemporary art nudes, but I am unsure of the demand my work would have. Would you hypothetically consider buying a photobook of my work if you were a normal member of the public and not a member of Red Bubble? How often would you buy a glossy coffee table book of art nudes or other photographic images? Your comments would be very much appreciated as it may help me decide either way what I should do. Tony

Alan Reading's new Tee! Ta daaaaa! I need some feedback to my journal people - I'm lonely dammit!
by Alan ReadingNew to my gallery The Castle Tee: ...
New to my gallery The Castle Tee: I’ve been feeling a bit off of late – the gut region. I’m not coming up with too many designs either. Usually they just pop into my head from another plane of existence or something. I also want to admit something to you all. I’m color blind. Red green apparently. When I admit this ALOT of people usually start going through the routine questions: Oh yeah? What color is this? What color is that thing over there? Point to something blue. / Weird huh? No that wasn’t one of their questions just my observation. / I have another confession to make – I am blessed with male pattern baldness. Thanks grandpa. I save a fortune on hair care products and hair cuts. It’s where I get my superiority complex. / I haven’t been to karate this week. My training has slumped since the cold weather set in. Does anyone out there have some good advice for sports training in the cold weather?

I recently submitted one of my captures called “Recline” to the Adult Group. As Im sure that you can appreciate, the work needs to be approved prior to acceptance into the group. / You may be surprised when the following response came back. “We think it isn’t in line with one or more of the group guidelines. If you’re able to make changes to your work so it meets these guidelines, we’ll be happy for you to resubmit the work for consideration.” The image was rejected. I am at a loss to understand this. I would dearly love your views, comments, thoughts. Does this image not fit into the group? If not, why not? Where does it belong? Please do keep in mind that the group ran a competition that finished about two weeks ago based around the breast. / Being a moderator must be a tough role. But come on! / RB

I am intrigued by what music I choose to play for my daughter—probably because I grew up in a household where popular music was “of the devil,” and I hated pretty much everything my parents listened to. My daughter, on the other hand… Her lullaby CDs featured everything from the Beatles to Kermit the Frog. She got a regular diet of Enya at bed/naptime and still considers that to be either “elf music” or “ballerina music.” And it’s been fun to uncover music that she likes, that I can enjoy too. The biggest players have been Laurie Berkner and Dan Zanes, but we’ve also learned to look at “adult” music as fun for children. Not counting Laurie and Dan and the Disney music, here are some choices from the CDs I most recently made for her: - Harry Belafonte’s “Day-O” and “Jump in the Line (Shake Senora)” / - “The Hampster Dance” by Hampton the Hamster / - “Beyond the Sea” by Bobby Darin / - “Birdhouse in Your Soul” by They Might Be Giants / - The Harry Potter theme music / - “Linus and Lucy” by David Benoit / - “Songs About Texas” by Pat Green, Guy Clark and Robert Earl Keane (this is one of the songs I first understood her to be singing, when she was a baby) / - “Sweet Baby James” by James Taylor / - “True Colors” by Phil Collins / - “Video Killed the Radio Star” by the Buggles As far as “kids’ music,” I love Laurie’s “Moon Moon Moon” and “Under a Shady Tree,” also Dan’s “Let’s Shake” and “House Party Time.” And we all love, for some odd reason, “Everywhere I Go” by Moose A. Moose (one of the songs they play during breaks on Noggin). One song from Noggin that I love dearly and can’t find anywhere is “Grumpy,” by a band with a really odd name that’s left my brain at the moment (something about aardvarks?). We also love, and can’t find, Lisa Loeb’s version of “Jenny Jenkins.” Another song she loves that isn’t on her CDs is “Black Horse and Cherry Tree” by KT Tunstall. What toddler doesn’t resonate with the “No No No” part? :) I’ll never forget the day we were listening to it in the car; I look back at her and she’s got both arms in the air, waving from side to side to the beat, restriction of the five-point carseat harness be damned. Anyone else got family favorites that still probably fall into the realm of popular music?
