When I landed in Melbourne, I was greeted by one of my all time favourite photographers Adrian Donoghe who very graciously showed me through Fed Square and the Arts precinct of the city. We were a little late to see much in the gallery, but of course I couldn’t come away without a shot of the water wall. Thanks Adrian, was a treat to meet up again, hope to catch up again soon!

My First Wedding as official photographer. Thank you to Adrian and Zoe Terrace for having faith in me to take their photos on such as a special day. I will post more in the coming days. This photo is just something I believe is fantastic. The first emotion that comes to mind is that of love and trust everytime I look at this shot.

standing at the crossroads of a torchered mind… / Does he fight for the twisted cause ? / or leave them all behind… From my Anima collection, Adrian is a character out of a series of books I am trying to write. He is the product of experimentation, both genetic and otherwise. At a crossroads with himelf ,and life in general, he is learning that power as he had once longed for, is not always what it is cracked up to be.

The Adventures of Sticky the Stunt Tourist (Part 1)
by Cathie TranentThis is the story of a little stickman in a big city. It cou…
This is the story of a little stickman in a big city. It could have been a lot better for Sticky. He could have been adopted by a legitimate artist, he could have been the basis of a life study, or been a proper photographic model like his cousins were, instead he found himself plucked from the top shelf by a little round photographer on a visit to Melbourne. At least she took the spike out of his arse, and didn’t shove him into a plastic bag like he’d seen happen to the others. He found himself attached to the side of a camera bag travelling out into the fine winter sunshine. After travelling to the Sticky Institute (wow, only just liberated and already he had a business named after him) he found himself in a laneway admiring street art. Perhaps next time he would be more careful where he stood. Suddenly he found himself scooped up and racing to Federation Square – on a mission to intercept zombies. Time and time again he found himself shoved against a camera lens as the redhead shot zombie after zombie after zombie – and then he found himself snatched away and facing certain death …. But no – relief as he recalled that he was indeed a stick figure of very little grey matter, and this zombie would go hungry!! There’s only one letter different between grain and brain – but what a vital letter it was! After making it safely to the end of the Zombie Shuffle, he found himself having coffee with most of Back Alley Atelier and some other zombie hunters! He struck his best pose, but to no avail … these two were unimpressed. Soon his human companions were refreshed, and heading once again to the maze of back alleys, but not before Sticky had done his best bridge impersonation! Soon they were again admiring graffiti and a myriad of shops. (Sticky, unlike the humans had no interest in anything retail – stickmen have no pockets and therefore no money). There was however, a fleeting glimpse in a shop called Minotaur, of a rather well to do movie star who bore a passing family resemblance. Sticky would have to investigate this further on his return to Adelaide. After a fabulous day (well the photographer thought so anyway) Sticky found himself whisked back to the hotel to rest “her” feet and prepare to do it all again tomorrow.

I was determined to take photos at this meet up, I even stole borrowed some lenses to play with. Yay for fun. I tried to get a shot of everyone but… you know how some people don’t like having their photo taken so they hide behind their hands? Well some photographers seem to like hiding behind their camera… You can’t say I didn’t try though – repeatedly :) (You can find actual good photos here and here)

Firstly, many appy loggies for my relative absence from the bubble sphere recently. I’ve been working a retail management job that was a little bit nuts over Christmas, and am changing jobs yet again soon. Also the Back Alley Atelier exhibition has taken up a little bit of time. If you are in Melbourne please check it out and sign the guest book. One bubbler who did come all the way from the Blue Mountains NSW (not just for us, but still special) was gentleman, scholar and fine photographer “Andrew “The Boz Bosman . When he asked if I would like to show him the back alleys of Melbourne, I said “Sweet, I’ll round up some peeps, meet us under the clocks at Flinders St” (or words to that effect). So last Saturday we braved heat that only mad dogs and photographers would. The peeps: / Mark German / Stephen Colquitt / John Robb / Adrian Carmody / Hien Nguyen / Allen Lau The pics: / Cameras are effin’ tough – yeah / Strut / If it has a pulse, shoot it / Take a load off / Showing Boz the pristine bits of Melbourne / Stephen is centred / I got Mark from behind in a mirror / Photographic edumacation / We sent Boz down a dead end / And he ran in to some shady characters / Who said some stuff / We shot random ladies in frocks / The shadows got long and we were getting thirsty / And the Boz looked baffled It was all about love and lens nerds.

After missing a few RB meets, either being too busy or too sleepy to get out of bed, I managed to go along to today’s one. Albeit an hour late, I managed to get there before we all moved along from the meet point. I didn’t take many [different] pics but these are mine for the day. I don’t shoot macro, so I sorta stuck with portraits. 1. / 2 / 3 I walked over to ask this guy for a photo as I saw him doing jumps and stuff. I was in for a huge surprise when it turned out that I knew him and he once worked for me many years ago in Perth. Small world this is. / 4 / 5 / 6 Here, I stopped down background light, and then added my own strobes (back and front – thanks Chris). Sorta like a portable studio out in the middle of the day :) / 7 Adrian did a boo boo and his mrs wasn’t happy ! / 8 Jess always looking great / 9 Waitress was hot! /

Handsome man becomes major benefactor...

Adrian Carmody the unbelievable talented photographer known for his unique ability to stay focused in mosh pits has turned his hand to philanthropy. No that’s not stamp collecting but giving money to those who need it for no other reason than well, they need it. He’s already joined the hall of fame by buying the world’s most expensive card / But oh no being a great bloke isn’t enough for our Adrian. He’s just become an awesome bloke by buying three more. Let me tell you what that means. It means people get a chance. A chance to be healed, nurtured and loved. A bit of heaven in hell. Congo and Rwanda are under fire people are suffering ‘cos they were born in the wrong part of the world. If you think $30 does nothing you’re wrong. It does everything if you consider love everything. And man can Adrian shoot great pics. Check out his stuff here but also on his website… His band shots are amazing. I know there’s lottsa band members out there in the bub. Seriously this is the guy who should be shooting your stuff. He manages light so well and captures emotion beautifully. This guy wreaks of talent, and soul. Thanks Adrian x That’s one more beer I owe…and yes, yes, yes John Robb (the originator of this idea) I owe you too!

Like ants we build and surround ourselves with structure. Yet we walk by buildings were assume will always be there. Forgotten are those places that are deemed worthless. They are steeped in history just the same. Maybe not a history that is supposedly, worthy of remembrance. Yet I would beg to differ. Shape and form is all around us, teasing and mocking out ignorance as we stroll be, preoccupied. Did you take a minute to smell the roses? Now take a minute to smell the diesel, look around and take a snap. You walk through history, every day. Why not capture it in a special way. I hope that explains my choices. Have fun people.
