“Seeing is different than being told.” / Proverb from Kenya / —-—— As I researched Kenya, where this girl is from, I was struck by the fact that Kenya… is a butterfly rich country. And so it made sense to adorn this young one with the intense, piercing gaze… with the brilliance of butterflies. Rio 2009 – as featured in Issue 57 of Advanced Photoshop Magazine! I went head to head with another artist, after being given the same basic model shot to work with. This was the outcome for me! You can see both of our work in this issue, along with a simplified tutorial on how I achieved this look. The reason this is called “Rio 2009” – is because of my original inspiration. Remember that classic 80’s album by Duran Duran called Rio, with the fantastic Patrick Nagel artwork on the cover? The raven haired beauty with the ‘cherry ice cream smile’ – who looked exotic and edgy, with that supermodel gleam? Well I wanted to update that picture with a fresh approach. No longer trapped in the graphic art lines of Nagel, Rio has broken free, and is a bit more exotic and fierce now that it is 2009! I love blending cultural styles and colors, and this piece was a real treat to work because of that!

I saw this beautiful wild dandelion while on a bushwalk at Dolamore Park recently. It looked so pretty, all covered in dew. I think it’s a dandelion seedhead, but it looked a little different than the ones I’m used to seeing on my lawn.

Body adornment is popular in many cultures. However, we rarely see a giant with so many images on his body. He is friendly with another giant / in my portfolio titled Giant walking through the woods. In actually they both are trees that I photographed to show the anthropomorphism of nature.,This giant is part of my graffiti series taken in the forests of Topanga State Park. This is a wonderful image to project what you see, especially when viewed in the larger format.

I spotted this girl outside Zara in Milan, Italy and waas instantly drawn to her ‘look’ and the many necklaces that adorned her neck! After I took a few candids (including this one) I approached her and asked her if I could take some more outside, luckily she agreed but unfortunately I completely forgot to ask her name! Taken with Canon 450D & Canon 18-55mm IS Lens – straight from the camera. A beautiful ceiling in S.F., decorated for the holiday season!
I decided to edit this and re-post as I like the position of the girls better sitting in the water as opposed to sitting on top of the ball as they were in the last version.
You might think from the title that this is a tree from which you pick your favorite lipstick. The fact is this is a lady tree for a night on the forest. / Who says trees don’t get dressed up? They are adorned in various colors and beautiful textured tree bark and have a variety of seasonal choices. Choosing the appropriate lipstick is important to certain lady trees, especially in the spring when their leaves blossom to reveal their most dramatic appearance. Not all trees as you know are interested in wearing lipstick but as you can see this tree has made an event of two lines of vibrant red lipstick to enhance her beauty. I might not have noticed her unless she had decided to be among the lipstick trees.
