“Well I went to the Vets today and the results were good for Blue..but he said I needed putting to sleep…LMAO! / I registered Blue with the PDSA,and if you could have seen the state I got into attempting to get Blue into the cat Box…I was in a right mucking fuddle. He was trapped in the kitchen with me,and I thought I am going to be mauled to death here.Legs straddling the box….both me and Blue,he picked up the doormat with his claws, and even though he was almost in,I had to let him go because he and the mat wouldn’t have fitted…it was hilarious! / He grumbled and growled, but eventually I managed to do it..I was sweating like a pig.Never have I had to do this before, and it was obviously picked up by Blue,(I never got one scratch,he kept his claws away from me..such a blessed little soul. / We drove the vets, and every now and then, Blue gave such pitiful meows..my heart was breaking..! / What was I doing to this little thing I asked myself, but I had to be strong..I wanted to know if he was ok,and if this is what I had to do,so be it. / Awaiting our turn in the surgery, the place was packed out and Blue was the only Puss amongst loads of dogs, large small and teeny tiny pups.! / The vet opened the cage, and had to tip it upside down to get Blue out,I couldn’t believe it…the fight I had to get him in and now he didn’t want to come out…lol! / He looked at his eyes, and checked his teeth, felt his tummy and took his temperature, and Blue never murmered throughout the ordeal at all. / He gave Blue a relatively thorough health check and antibiotic jab,and said if it got worse I was to take him back in a couple of days, but he seems fine he said. / I was pleased I had taken him,and felt the weight come off my shoulders instantly. / I though to myself…”Oh my God…gotta get him back into the frigging Box now”!,and imagined all sorts of shennigans, with Blue ducking and diving as he had in my kitchen,,,not Blueboy,he crawled back into the box like a pussy cat…Oh Yes..he IS a PUSSY CAT aint he?LMAO. / When we got home I expected him to do a runner, but he went to his dish and started feeding his face..none the worse for his experience thank God. / I feel so much happier now,and all I can say is fingers crossed for his future with his New Family, who cared enough to get him sorted, not like the creatures who owned him before we did..! / Thanks for the advice everyone..I am one happy soul now,but I can’t find Blue at the moment..hope he hasn’t taken offence,,,I only have one fence…!!Apologies people,as you can see I am crackers today, but so relieved! / (SIGH).

As you probably know,we have a visiting cat who is here with us a majority of the time. / When we went away,I informed the owner we would be away for 2 weeks and to make sure that Blue was fed and watered, but left food with my neighbour just in case! / On our return home,I noticed Blue had lost weight and his eyes were dull, and the third eyelid was visible and didn’t retract and it looked awful. / Told the owners Mother (my so called friend) to tell her daughter about the problem. This was a month ago,and nothing has been done…I suspect my friend didn’t pass on the message.Blue is a lot better now,but that 3rd eyelid is still obvious especially when you tickle under his chin…awww! / As I have reported the owners to the RSPCA before,I am loathe to do this again, but I can’t take the animal to the vet’s because he isn’t our cat! / I know the third eyelid could be due to weight loss and lots of other thing as well..any ideas on how I can deal with poor Blue, without alienating the owner yet again. / Should I make out the cat is mine and take him anyway..?

Sorry that I haven’t been here much lately but on Saturday, Jim and i adopted 2 new little pals..2 black cats..from the humane society here in Winnipeg. Very sad what people to do animals..how can people be so cruel? We had saw some sad stories there..someone had put a cat in a crate..nailed it shut and left it under a bridge…..of course its cold here in winnipeg at this time of year too..not that it matters if its cold or hot..just as bad..also some cats were brought in that had their feet frozen to a cat trap..geez. Yes we did go for 2 cats…of course to keep each other company… / both of them are black of course ..what other color would there be for me? lol / I’ve always wanted a black cat and now I have 2..so I’ve been spending time playing with my 2 babies. The boy is 1 and a half.. and the girl one month younger then him.. / they aren’t siblings but they almost look alike. 1 boy and 1 girl…I named them Salem and Sabrina respectively. I may post photos soon…i’ll see if I can get better photos to post.

I’ve been in bed with a migraine all day and just got up a little while ago to check all my email. This message from the Pennsylvania SPCA is one of the last messages I read and my heart is sick with grief ~ especially because this happened so close to home. Here’s the text from the email: Dear Friend, I spent all night moving sick and dying cats into cages for transport to the animal hospital. I am exhausted. Everyone around me is exhausted, but there is still more work to do. More cats to help. On Thursday night, the Pennsylvania SPCA raided a place called Tiger Ranch. There were more than 600 cats living on the 30-acre property. Tiger Ranch advertised itself as a “no-kill sanctuary” so people dropped their unwanted pets and stray cats off thinking that they were saving them. Instead, the cats were neglected, underfed and left to die. The cats were living in filthy, cramped conditions, without enough food or water, and many were suffering from untreated illnesses. When they died, the owner of the property buried their bodies in large burial pits and covered them with dirt. It is a horrific, nightmarish scene. Cat fur lines the ground around the burial pits. And even worse, there are dozens of dead cats in freezers, waiting to be buried. On Thursday night, the owner of Tiger Ranch was arrested. We have now seized all of the cats and are providing prompt medical care. With the help of partners like the ASPCA and local rescue organizations, we have rescued most of the cats. Some were so ill that they had to be humanely euthanized. Some died before we arrived or on the way to the animal hospital. But we’ve saved many hundreds of them. The Pennsylvania SPCA has set up a shelter and animal hospital just for these cats in Clarion County, PA. We will be fully providing all medical care and boarding until they are well enough to be adopted. We are accepting donations to the Tiger Ranch Fund to help pay for our efforts. You can support the Pennsylvania SPCA and donate directly to save these neglected cats online. Just write “Tiger Ranch” in the dedication field. We also accept donations over the phone (215 426 6304 ext. 217) or via mail. Please contact Rachel McCrystal, Director of Development, at rmccrystal@pspca.org if you have any further questions about donating to help our efforts. I am shocked by the neglect I’ve seen over the past two days. One small black cat dead in a litter box. Dozens of skinny cats pushing each other out of the way to get to one dish of water. Many cats that were so weak from dehydration that they could barely walk. Some literally blind from illness or bleeding from their mouths. Hundreds of sick, sneezing, crying cats. As we work here in Clarion County, providing urgent medical care and trying to ascertain what exactly happened at that horrible place, I know that these cats will never again have to suffer like that. I am promising that to each and every one of them. / / Please help if you can. All my best, Howard Howard R. Nelson, Chief Executive Officer Here’s the news story in it’s entirety. You Can Help / You can support the Pennsylvania SPCA and donate directly to save these neglected cats online. Just write “Tiger Ranch” in the dedication field. Last night (Friday), I was wandering around the shopping centre and as usual when I walk past the pet shop, I stopped to see what puppies and kittens they had in the window. I saw a kitten which appeared to black all over – it was a little hard to tell as she/he was curled up, half asleep. The others in that pen were black and white. Our first cat was a pure black queen – what a character she was! This afternoon, after picking hubby up from the club, we went back to the shopping centre because I’d forgotten something I needed. I decided to walk past the pet shop again and see if the kitten I liked was still there. Hubby follows and I pointed out the one I liked. We discuss it briefly and, as we turned away, a lady asks if we’re interested in a kitten FREE? She said the magic word. She told us she had some kittens she was going to bring up to to pet shop in about 2 or 3 weeks time but if anyone wanted one before then, they could have it at no charge. She described them all to us – two gray males and a female which is a creamy pale apricot colour and not a long hair – that’s a relief for me as, much as I love cats, I’m allergic to them. Damn, damn, damn!!!! I wanted a female, and this one sounds gorgeous, so that’s worked out very well. Apparently they all Sit on command, expecting to be fed!!! So, in about 4 weeks time, we hope to be adopted by a new kitten – we’ve been without a cat since October 2000. I hope that four weeks hurries up and passes – i can’t wait!! We’ve been lucky to be owned by 2 cats with very distinct personalities, so we’re hoping this one turns out to be a character, too.

Mattie’s Story My 12 year old puppy Mattie has been recently diagnosed with liver cancer. When she had an ultrasound done, the doctor said she needed surgery to remove the tumor and the spleen (the tumor was wrapped completely around it), but it was only a 5-10% chance she would make it through. Well, she did and with flying colors. She was out chasing ducks 2 days later. Unfortunately, I found out the tumor has mastisized before they were able to remove it and cancer spread to her liver. They gave her less than 2 months to live. But, it’s been over 2 months and she’s still going strong. She’s already gone through 2 sessions of chemotherapy without getting sick, but the specialist told me last week not to expect too much. He also let me know approx. how expensive this was going to be. Her treatment includes 5 drugs: Denamarin, Doxorubicin, Cychophosphamide, Piroxicam, and Tramadol. Along with these drugs, she has to go in once a week to check blood and have x-rays/ultrasounds to determine the location and or spread of her cancer. So far, with the tests, surgery, x-rays, etc. the bill is up to $5000. The specialist told me to expect at least $8000 more. I just can’t give up fighting for her though. Whatever I have to do to save her I will do. She’s my kid. I’ve never been able to have children so my pets (Mattie and Checkers, her 16 year old brother) have become my children. Who knew you could ever love something so much. About my kids I adopted Checkers 15 years ago from a local shelter. On the day I met him, he was to be put down since he had been there over 7 months, so I asked if I could adopt him instead and he’s never left my side since. He has been so great taking care of Mattie. Any time he can sense that she’s hurting, he walks up and starts licking her ears and nudges under her chin to curl up & fall asleep. He never leaves Mattie for too long. I met Mattie when she was 6 weeks old. Her mother and 5 brothers and sisters were found starving in an alley Austin Texas until a local took them in and fed them until they were old enough to be adopted out. Most of her sibblings were adopted by the time I got there. Everyone wanted the ones that looked like black labs, which were all of them except Mattie. I stood outside the yard and watched for 10 minutes or so, watching her try everything she could to get any attention at all with no luck. All of a sudden this runt of the litter with her bloated belly and ears and feet that were waaay to big for her little body made a b-line through the yard straight for me. She was the most precious thing that I had ever seen in my entire life. Since then she’s gone everywhere with me, even tubing down the Guadalupe River in her own tube… my puppy freakin’ rocks! The 3 of us have been through everything you can imagine, including almost being homeless. I remember a time when I couldn’t even afford to buy groceries, it was either food for them or for me, so I was able to go for about 5 days without food so my kids could eat. Mattie has even saved me twice, once from a bad boyfriend and once from myself. She has never once given up on me, so there’s no way I’m giving up on her. Our Goal So far, We’ve tried to get grants from non-profit organizations but have been turned down by all of them, reasons being: she’s too old, we live in the wrong state, or they don’t pay for longterm medical assistance like chemo. Now, to try to raise money for Mattie’s bills, I’ve set up The Mattie Cancer Fund on my website. Here you can check out Mattie’s Photo Journal to see her daily progress and make donations. I’ve also designed a cute sticker with Mattie’s photo on it saying “I helped save a life today”. Anyone who donates $20 or more will recieve a sticker in the mail, so make sure to enter your name & address when making your donations. The donations have been set up through paypal for safe and secured transactions. Also, I’ve put several photos of Mattie and Checkers on tees and artwork on redbubble.com, cafepress.com, and my website. So the more pieces I sell, the closer I can get to giving her the help she needs. If anyone knows of any other ways to raise/receive money, I can use ANY and ALL the help I can get. If you know other animal lovers that may want to help Mattie, please pass this site along to them.
