Admiration Bubble (aka Admirabubble)

It’s been said that we all should promote the work of another artist on Redbubble. In the past I have hesitated, in fact I baulked at the suggestion that I would give free publicity to someone other than myself. Today I realised the folly of this: It’s not publicity, its admiration. / And it’s not a society as some suggest, because I gain nothing but humbleness, awareness, and a happy moment that will last a lifetime! Where was this thought born? To answer that, let me go back a little. When I first registered with Redbubble early in 2007, I quickly added a few favourite artists to my list. This includes such amazing artists as Lindsay , Lara , KathyT , Andrew , Sharon , Lisadee , Sharon , Deborah , Pete , Flamejob and Shane to name but a few artists whom I enjoy watching new work each week! Each of these artists have uploaded some truly amazing work that continues to inspire me to try something new with my camera, to go outside my preferred style and to see more of the Australian environment—which is always a good thing. I also added Joe to my favourite list. This was something about his art that caught my interest and looked vaguely familiar… Of course, I talk of Joe Mortelliti . We’ve all read about his sudden diagnosis of Acute Myeloid Leukemia and road to recovery, Darren Stone wrote a tear-invoking piece that reminds us all that mortality is short and that we are all but a pebble’s ripple upon a stormy-ocean. What I saw in Joe’s work was the similar scenes we both seem to be encountering around our area’s of Australia, from the outback scenery, the eucalyptic and mallee forestry that is found throughout the countryside and the artistic litter of many farmyards and stations. Joe regularly uploads work that inspires me to try more photographic-arenas, to match colours with the subject of the shot, plus see the frame of a photograph as a stage-performance where every corner says something different yet pertains to the entire shot. Rather than explain Joe’s style of photography, here are few samples that say it all. (Read more after the images) , , , , , , , I had plans to link to a WHOLE lot more, but figured the point was made. Joe is an amazing photo-artist. He is one of the few photographers who can find art in every location without pixel-manipulation. (Well, he probably does, but it’s subtle!) He is also a master of the focal-length and certainly knows how to pick the perfect moment of the day to capture the ideal colour of a location. Every time I see a new artwork in Joe’s collection, I carefully dissect every corner of it, and summarise what Joe has done for me. For me, because I, well, we are all a ‘Little Joe’. What I mean is, many of us are self-taught. Joe says in his profile, ‘I have no formal photographic training, simply self taught.’ From there, he has mastered what he enjoys and become one of the most inspiring photographers on RedBubble! Don’t know about you, but nothing more needs to be said. There you have it, my admirabubble (admiration bubble) goes to Joe Mortelliti . Thank you for reading. I hope to write similar pieces in the future, but Joe’s the main-man for now. Here is my ab-fab piece from his collection, at least for today:

A couple of weeks ago I was advised that a member had put me on their watchlist. I like to see the artwork of people who like my artwork, so I went to this person’s profile page. I discovered that they had no work of their own up, they only had favourites, and myself alone on their watchlist (at that point). / This morning another of my works has been faved by someone who is not putting up any work themselves. / To these people I say, your interest is welcome if you are simply admirers. However, it’s worrying to me that you offer no details about yourselves, your personal connections to art, or even how you came to discover RedBubble itself. I’m sure you both know who you are. I invite you to step forward here, respond to this post of mine, and say a little about yourselves. I know I risk offending by taking such a blunt approach, but there has been various incidents of theft from other artists on this site. By coming forward, the worst thing you can do is make me look like an idiot. Trust me, I’m familiar with that experience, and I wouldn’t mind it happening again here. Over to you.

Am I the only one when walking pass a game, machinima or 3D animation that is being played/promo/demo (or whatever), will stop and go “awww… what pretty textures/lighting/walk cycles/bump maps”... instead of the generic “wow that looks cool!”... am I? I think it might be because I know how much effort, time and tears is needed into making games/3D models…. Hmmmm…..

It is interesting, no, make that more than interesting, how being in this community of art, can make me feel something when I have no feelings to share. In between short periods of time that are torture episodes in reality, I can slightly relax and look forward to a new work or completion of one. I see and sense similarity around me and taken aback by the beauty created by others, I attempt not to be persuaded or influenced to copy any image to my brain for duplication elsewhere. I cannot view the work of others too long. My admiration may come alive in a work that needs to be my own beginning and end. 01-22-08 09:35 a.m. PST

I don’t know if I’m allowed to do this, but I will try :) Because there is just so much talent on here, I want to maybe share some of my favourites with other people as well. It’s such a huge community that I think it’s hard to see even a fraction of the talent that’s here. So in my little entries here, I want to feature a couple of people on my watchlist every few days just to give other people a chance to see the work of someone they may not have seen yet. I’d like to start with a couple of people I know from another community which will remain nameless but which has helped me grown, given me ideas and let me meet some really terrific people! I’ll just do 3 today although there are countless others from the same place that I will add so please no one feel left out! The first is Marianne – http://www.redbubble.com/people/photoeyes This woman’s work is just so wonderful! The first thing that springs to mind is “wholesome”. It’s just so “good”. It always brings a smile to my face and makes you look at the world as a kinder place. Her love of photography is echoed in each piece of work and I know that I can choose any one of her pictures to look at and I’ll feel better. I look up to her talent and her positive way of capturing things. The second is Christopher – http://www.redbubble.com/people/cewing The guy has such a wonderful mix of specialties and does them all very well! He offers great advice and just seems to know things on instinct. His work offers such a variety, something for everyone, really! The technical aspects of his work are fantastic and his eye for a good photograph would be hard to beat! The third is Krys – http://www.redbubble.com/people/krysbailey This woman’s work has blown me away from the first time I saw it! She has the ability to take the simplest thing and turn it into a stunning work of art! The colour in her work is like chocolate for the eyes! Her passion for photographer is there, in every single shot! Okay, that’s it for today. Just a couple for people to check out. If you’d like to add anyone, feel free, I’d love to check out more! Have a great day!

As you can see I have on my arm my pride and joy boy…my Son. / He is one of a kind. He has an old soul, talks way too much, loves to eat non-stop & take naps between classes. His friends are true and have been around since he was a tiny tot. He loves his 2 sisters; one older, one younger; carefully guards & guides April in the ways of the world, as he knows she is more fragile than Angela. / He plays football with his ‘all’, plays hard & plays with a vengeance & with such class, always!!! / He loves his family above all else in this world & talks with me about everything he can get his mind on, which is anything & everything! Wonders too much, thinks too much, analizes too much for such a young man. After all, he’s only 23!!! / I wonder how he attained all this insight, all this well thought out knowledge as I am sure when I speak with him I am speaking with one of my peers. He amazes me. / The ladies love him, always someone dropping at his feet, wanting to be loved by him, they know he is worth it! He doesn’t mess around with anyone’s feelings, he doesn’t throw himself at the girls and doesn’t act like he knows “he’s got it all!” He is humble & kind & thoughtful & respectful…always thinking of others first; especially the women in his life, simply because he honestly believes all women should be treated with respect and loved for exactly who they. He never tries to change anyone and would let the love of his life go before he would ever hold her down with selfish desires! He has! / I am so unbelievably proud of my Son I sometimes cry; he makes me that happy. When he visits from University he stays at Mom’s place. Dad lives down the street, not so far away but he wants to be here with me. Awww, so blessed I am! / We call eachother names. He usually calls me Monkey or Merm. I call him Monkey Butt or Luger or Dre. His name is Andre but we have so many silly, off the cuff name for eachother I lost count! He’s just a crazy kid. I couldn’t play fight the little bugger when he was here 2 weekends ago as he had a football injury but we usually go a few rounds until someone is on the floor. It’s so damn fun. I kick my foot over his head, fists ready to go and he can flatten me in a second but he always gives me a chance to be an idiot!!! / When all is quiet and the nite comes, the party is over, the friends are gone, everyone in the house is asleep he loves to have those private talks with me; the ones where the ‘old soul’ comes out again. The ones where he knows nobody else will understand his words & be able to feel his feelings. I do! He knows that so we talk, one human being to another, one friend to another & when necessary a mother to her Son! / People like to be around my Son. There is something about him; he is earthy, worldly, knowing, funny beyond words, loving, non-judgemental, confident but not cocky! He is a leader amongst his peers, amongst men, amongst all of us. Many look up to him and use him as an example & for this I take such pride & draw such warmth from. / He is a wonderful grandson, an excellent cousin, a loving brother, a true friend to all, a perfect Son to me & most of all he is an amazing & remarkable human being! / To know him is to love him…He is my Golden Boy, my Son, my one & only Son!

Photography is tricky isn’t it. You take a shot that you think “Yeah, I like that, it looks good, sharp, clear, dof is good, colour is good, yeah, it’s good enough for Red Bubble” so you upload it. / Then you go check out someone’s portfolio like Shane Walker’s and you crash back to earth with a thud, your pride shattered when faced with talent like that. I’m in awe at shots like his and the many other wonderful artists on the bubble and can only dream that I might get that good one day. / So, although I am humbled today, I am not discouraged; more encouraged that shots like that might be within my reach now that I have a DSLR camera just waiting for a nice lens to help me along (not to mention hours and hours of practice) LOL Thanks for being here to encourage me, and others like me, Red Bubble!

I’d just like to thank each and every one of you here on RB for being such an inspiration. I have only been a member of Red Bubble for about 6 weeks so far, but in those past 6 weeks i have looked at thousands upon thousands of your wonderful artworks and I have been so inspired by some of your works that i have gone out myself to capture something similar (but with my own twist). For the past 5 1/2 years i have put my children (and hubby) before myself, but since i got in touch with my High School art teacher, things have been looking positive for me once again. She gave me the kick up the butt i needed to get into my photography more seriously and when i found RB, it seems that everything has just turned to gold for me! I think i can now say that i am well and truly addicted to red bubble and each day i look at many more inspiring images and usually find a “new” artist who ends up on my watchlist or their artworks in my favourites.
