This beautiful creature is the East African bongo, a large antelope that lives in the forest. Different tribes in Africa have legends about the bongos’ various magical powers, which are largely a reflection of their ability to “disappear” into the forest at a moment’s notice. This particular species of bongo is endangered due to habitat destruction and poaching, and now there are more East African bongos in captivity than there are in the wild. Let’s hope that we can help this species before they do a real disappearing act. 100% of the profits from the sale of this print will be donated to Steve Irwin’s Wildlife Warriors Worldwide.

It seems impossible that a tiny blade of grass can hold onto such a fat, juicy droplet of water, and yet it does with ease.

This lovely green new dew drop decked fern frond was photographed on the side of the Knodingbul Road, off the Oxley Highway between Wauchope and Gingers Creek, NSW, Australia, early on an autumn morning. The fern is tentatively identified as Gleichenia microphylla (Parasol or Umbrella or Scrambling Coral Fern). I was with a camera club friend on a day trip to the Cottan-Bimbang# National Park and environs when we stopped to check out some possible subjects. When I turned to look at the other side of the road this backlit dew bedecked frond caught my eye. #Cottan-Bimbang is the local Aboriginal name for the Linospadix monostachya (Walking Stick Palms) which are very prominent in the area Camera: Fuji S9600; RAW; Macro Mode; Manual Priority; Manual Focus; f/4; 1/60sec; 33mm; Spot Metering; Centre Focussing; WB Daylight; ISO 80; Low powered Flash; Hand held. / Processing: S7RAW & Photoshop CS. Enjoy! Gleichenia microphylla / Dicksonia antarctica /
