Acrylic on box canvas 120cm x 40cm This work is available for sale – bubbblemail me. I was trying to get the feel of drifting through a green field of high plants but with a feeling of detatched reality. The plants are high enough that you cannot see the horizon or any landmark – only the sky – yet there is a sense of peace in that isolation.

Columbine Lake was painted from a photo I took of this high mountain lake in Colorado while on a backpacking trip. The setting was spectacular, so I couldn’t resist. It took me two months to finish the piece as I reworked the paint to create a good harmony of color. Original ptg: 60” x 36” / acrylic on canvas artist’s collection
/ “The Basho Tree” is part of the new Collection called “Tropics”, and is named after the famed poet Basho.. / The Tropics collection of paintings are imbued with colour and light to reflect the intense heat of the climate... Watercolour on Arches Hot Pressed Paper.. Matsuo Kinsaku was a Japanese poet who changed his name to ‘Basho’, after he was presented with a wide leafed banana tree (or Basho tree) by one of his disciples. Although the tree is rare in Japan and the climate too cold for it to bear fruit, Basho liked it because of its large, soft leaves. The Basho tree appeared frequently in his work. Acrylic painting. This painting was inspired by the lake that we visit in Northern California. The trees are so thick and there are layers and layers. I would love to work on more like this and get a better feel for the trees, but for now I enjoyed finding a way to show the beautiful pines as the caught a Moment of Sun. / / /
Acrylic on canvas i could have played around with this forever but the sun shone in the afternoon in Scotland today, signalling a decent photo-oppurtunity and the glorious words ‘it is finished’ – the shining of the sun here today caused the death of fifty Scots by sunstroke, many more are recieving treatment for shock

An acrylic painting of a Northumberland burn which I wandered along earlier this year.
9/25.09 – Friday Last night I put the finishing touches on this landscape. The painting had languished in neglect because I had no room to paint something this size. In the new studio digs, I can tackle larger works and am thrilled to get the chance to do so. The painting was begun when I actually had some photo references. I finished it up from what I could remember of the spot. I was enchanted by the atmosphere that particular day. The down side was that I competed with about 6 GUZILLION other people for a chance to wander through the park. It was bumper-to-bumper traffic moving at 5 miles per hour when it moved. So after two hours of car fumes, I finally arrived at this serene section of the Pigeon River nestled in the heart of the Smokies. 24” x 36” / acrylic on canvas / collection the artist
A semi-abstract landscape, it’s collage and acrylics on canvas with a touch of pastels. There is a lot of texture and I did work by adding successive layers of acrylic. / Featured in the Abstract Realism group / Featured in the Feel, don’t copy group / 159 views on Dec 7, 2009 /
Acrylic painting on Canvas. / I don’t feel certain that this is complete. I am still feeling that it needs something. Maybe a broken down fence or a bicycle tire left on the side of the road. But as always I appreciate any feedback. /
About This Painting / Moonshine lies between Wellington and the southern end of the Tararua Ranges. In the days when I was getting into the hills most weekends, this was a very favorite place to go for day trips. The name is quite evocative – it makes one think of mystery, intrigue, rural living, and for some reason it also conjures up overtones of moonlight and benevolent magic. From out in these hills one did in fact get some quite magical glimpses of Wellington Harbour, the beauty of which is hard to beat on a good day. I doubt these hills are in tussock now – they have probably been converted to pine plantations, which would be a pity because the bare shapes of the rippling hills and the golden tussock grass were a joy to walk in. This sketch doesn’t show much topography, but for me it encapsulates the unique, mysterious atmosphere of the place. Acrylic on canvas board.
