Bear’s Breeches. A frequently found wild flower. Flowers from Spring till the beginning of Summer. In Summer it shoots its seed with a noise similar to that of a pistol. This picture was taken in Xlendi Bay in the sister Island of Gozo. In the background could be seen lichen covered steps dug out in solid rock a few hundred years ago, which lead to the Xlendi watch tower.

This is the mosaic from the floor of the church commonly called the “Basilica of Justinian” from a reference in Book VI of Procopius of Caesarea’s De aedifciis (on the buildings of Justinian). It was carefully removed and placed here into the site Mueseum. The central mosic is a Christian allegory of the soul. it begins in an acanthus from which vine branches spread out and aloft, intersecting four times in the centre to form four ellipses. / . / / . / / . / / . / / . / / . /

So great was the ancient Greek love for the acanthus that it was the principal ornamentation in the ancient capital of Corinth, and features prominently in Corinthian columns. It stood alone and tall at Botanical Gardens, Melbourne…. Had to click this one.. / This one has been post processed. I think this is one of my most edited images….I tried all new things that I had learned….. Framed version… /
