The original artwork is done in acrylic on stretched canvas. This was painted on a cold windy winter night a few years ago, and I wanted to paint something that will warm me up. What better way than a nice cosy blanket with swirls and colours! Enjoy!

I grew up in the Dakota’s in the USA and was quite used to snow…sand was not so usual here. The first time I saw snow and sand together in Norway, I was amazed! I had always thought that when there was sand, there was warmth! WRONG!

I was inspired by the contrast and affect of soft, quieting snow to busy city life and its bold structures. This was mainly painted using a palette knife and heavily textured with impasto. Like the song ….A macro shot of a piece of ice from my roof last winter,I was so surprised how the sun came out.I was holding the piece of ice in front of the sun…just experimenting the effects it will make.I thought it was to overexposed so I only added a blue tone,that’s it…. / /

Close-up cropped sections of this work to showcase detail: This is a mixed media piece; created using a watercolor painting that I digitally altered with layers and layers of various colors then added enhancements with GIMP brushes I made myself. Emotions rushed through me as I finished this piece and I kinda got a little teary! Let’s just say it moved me. You see, I was about to trash the watercolor! It was an experiment in watercolor techniques….just playing around while learning. I didn’t really expect it to be anything more. This morning while clearing out some stuff in the studio I happened upon it, setting there in a stack of the same sort of experimental paintings and this little voice nagged at me to do something MORE with it…....and so this is the result. :) VIEW IT LARGE! Watercolour painting on Arches watercolour paper. I dropped paint onto wet paper then shaped the painting, adding trees and lines to create the desired effect. Winter Begins Autumn recedes and winter steps in / The leaves have all fallen the snow begins. / Falling softly settling on dried leaves / Gimpses of light sparkle through the trees.
