  • A break from the street photography and portraits, this is the first of two shots I’m going to post with smoke as the subject.

  • © Claire McAdams / ALL RIGHTS RESERVED I got inspired today and went out and bought some incense and experimented with photographing smoke.

  • When I start to create a digital abstract, I never really know what it’s going to end up like; sometimes something comes out of the background to overshadow what I’ve been preparing as the main focus of the piece. / / As in this image, when I realized that the backdrop was way more interesting than the design in front, / I was tempted to ditch the design and let the background stand on its own. But it looked more interesting with the design layer faded into near oblivion, giving the digital smoke something to react against. / / Was going to title the piece Digital Smoke, but thought that was somewhat unimaginative; I wanted to recognize a perceived aura of the aurora borealis. And I like alliteration. / / As always, I am ecstatic when a piece fits nicely onto a card with minimal cropping damage

I’ve been attempting to take a photograph like this for some time now and FINALLY got it! Everything about this photograph was planned out and placed accordingly, even the glass – to show that the streaking was a real capture and not some product of any photo editing. I thought that it would take several attempts to accomplish this effect, but the subject followed my instructions very well and I got it on the first try! • Smoke photography, turned out like a pair of stockinged legs!

  • A combination of a smokey atmosphere, slow shutter speed and panning of the camera created this photo. Canon 1Ds Mark II / f/22 / 1/4 second / 600 mm focal length

  • A wave shot on a morning with smoke in the air from California fires from 2007. This wave had the sun behind the camera rather to the side creating a more pastel color tone to the wave. Canon 1Ds Mark II / 1/8 second exposure / f/4

  • For the next month (from May 27th onwards) I’m asking people not to leave a comment on my work here. Rather, if you would like to support the work that I do please either leave a comment or upload an image here I can live without comments but homophobia needs your voices Many thanks / Robert Museum Station tunnel, Sydney. There is a moving mural here which looks like smoke or water behind perspex. Stunning backdrop.

  • On Zazzle / on DeviantART Strongly inspired by Kagerou ... all the flowy red and orange hair, and a bit of Van Gogh’s Starry Night as well, for the background. A fierce and free magechild, who commands the fire of the night and moves through their own imagination at will… / Basically, controls the realm of dreams. / (also, Kagerou is possibly maybe initially believed to be a crazy-dream-journey) ArtRage 2.5 and graphics tablet

  • Best viewed large A Sydney tunnel, underground street, passages within passages – this one is flanked with moving ‘water’ or ‘bue smoke’ murals. All created in camera.

  • Shot with Canon 40D, Edited in Photoshop

  • She’s a blue light, yes it cannot be denied / She will give you back your pride / She squeezes, she freezes, she does what she pleases / But she says she thinks of others, all the time You must rise to her defense when she’s in danger / Turn around and you’re looking at a stranger / She steals your savings from under your bed / And leads you into places even angels fear to tread / She’s a blue light She’s not amused, when you’re trying to upstage her / So you choose to do nothing to enrage her / ‘Cause under her mantle you feel safe from the cold / And you’re safe from the danger of ever growing old / She’s a blue light /
