Also available as Cards: / Horizontal or Vertical / MCN:C1866-7486B-AE2E6 The Falun on the top right corner is a symbol of universal energy as used by those that study the Falun Gong Practice System; a special cultivation practice in the Buddha School. Falun Gong is an advanced cultivation practice system. In the past it served as an intensive cultivation method that required practitioners with extremely high Xinxing (mind-nature) or great inborn quality. The ancient Egyptians also used this symbol (eons ago and well before the Buddha movement) as depicted in hieroglyphics to signify their use of universal energy to retain connection to their higher spiritual realms and their Gods (their ancestors). The symbol has been used in the falun direction by the Indian tribes of North, Central and South America (as depicted in a Navaho Altar Floor). It is uaually thought to be a charm, talisman, or religious token, esp., a sign of good luck or benediction. It is also found in remains from the Bronze Age in various parts of Europe, esp. at Hissarlik (Troy) and was in frequent use as late as the 10th century. This symbol was also used but in reverse direction by the Nazi movement during WWII. The symbol is also known as a swastika (with arms prolonged to the right), suavastika (with arms prolonged to the left), fylfot and gammadion. A soothing song reaches our ears / Somehow displacing all our fears / To soothe once more, as done for years / Music composed in fire’s spears / / Pop loudly sings the melody / Voice shows in cinder’s arc we see / And though not always sung on key / Still rings with warmth and often glee / / Sizzle plays from coals below / Like static on cheap radio / Where fire greets the pitch’s flow / Alights anew the fire’s glow / / Hiss plays as from viper’s den / To warn the wild, the power of men / Hiss soothes the soul as fire’s zen / To keep men safe from wild again / / Crackle is the drummer’s beat / To time the fire band it’s feat / With rhythms forged from fire’s heat / And make the fire’s band complete / / Pop, Sizzle, Hiss, and Crackle clan / Together form the fire band / They never play a song that’s planned / Yet still a song we understand / / This fractal artwork was inspired by the music composed as a fire burns in the fireplace or around a campfire. It has always been a song of lulling warmth and comfort for myself, as with most other people. The notes of pop, sizzle, hiss, and crackle are arranged at random, so the song is always familiar, yet never the same twice. This is not to be confused with the sound of a wildfire, which is a completely different song than what I am representing in this artwork. / / The instrument of the fire song is that of pitch, also known as sap. Pockets of pitch are heated by the fire until they expand under the pressure, and then release the pressure by exploding (pop), by bubbling pitch onto the coals (sizzle), releasing gases (hiss), or cracking apart the wood grain (crackle). When combined they play the music of the fire. / / I imagine the music of fire is comforting to most, because it is ingrained in our genetic learning, tracing back to a time when we lived in the forest and caves, and fire would provide light, warmth, and safety from predators in the wild. Being one of the oldest forms of music, and all it has provided for us as a species over countless millennium, I thought it was worthy of a tribute artwork. / / This was created in Apophysis. The original is 4800×4800 pixels at 300 pixels per inch. The fractal was created as a transparency, and then layered over a gradient background that was created in Photoshop. The fractal gradient was created with ApoMap, a gradient editor commonly used with Apophysis. All of the post processing (background gradient and layering only) was done in Photoshop. The actual fractal has not been post-processed at all, and is exactly as it was rendered. Because the original is so large and difficult to see over the internet, I have included a few detail cutaways below. The cutaways are at 50% of the full-size artwork. / / / / / / / /

After being accused of not being original I’ve gone all creative with this interpretation of Autumn. Rigth from the outset this image was intended as a canvas print. Nature was my inspiration along with my other passion which in case you didn’t know is abstract painting. This image was created from a couple of photographs I took earlier today. The reflection of tree’s in the Cuddy Burn in Peebles. / Best viewed large. / Enjoy. /

© C J Lewis. Oils on stretched canvas 16”x 20”. The photograph of the tree trunk that gave me the inspiration for this painting appeared to me as two elderly people with rather large noses. The young girl sees these elders as being ‘nosey’ – interfering with other’s lives and sticking their nose into other people’s business … a bit like the politically correct in this day & age.
