  • Mixed-media abstract textural collage piece on board

  • The subject is mainly soft pastel and the surrounding work is so mixed, utilizing just about anything that comes to hand. Nude female paintings is what I am most about. I love the subject and can understand why the flowing lines and beauty have stood the test of time as perhaps the most painted of all subjects. Alcestis is a pivotal piece, one of the most enduring pieces I have painted so far. It was central to my 1997 exhibition in New York. I love exploring the combination of abstract and representational and I love looking for the abstract in a composition. It is possible to emphasise the softness and matt of the skins texture by juxtaposing it with the reality of harder, strong colours and reflective materials. The triangles in this one just keep on echoing the more you look. The whole collection was about the strength of femininity.
