Abstract Chakra Hand painting with the Chinese characters: Health and Longevity.
The labyrinth was a maze created by the brilliant engineer Daedalus for King Minos to hold prisoners from ever escaping. The Minotaur resided deep within it’s depths, later to be slain by the hero Theseus. Of course Daedalus himself later became a captive to his own creation. Since even he could not find a way to escape from his own construction, he devised wings of wax and feathers and string, and, along with his son, Icharus, flew from the confines of the labyrinth. Icharus, not heeding his father’s warning, flew on too high toward the sun, causing the wax in his wings to melt; and he fell to the earth, and his death. / The labyrinth has been observed in many cultures to be a metaphor of the depths of the human psyche. From the ideas of old Greece to medieval cathedrals to the modern ideas of the psychoanylist Carl Jung, the labyrinthean depths of our own minds may very well be of the very highest construction and capability, as well as our greatest obstacle toward true enlightenment and freedom. / Original work was created using watercolor and gouache media on Arches cold-press 180lb. cotton rag.

This is the actual shape of the canvas The shape of the canvas becomes an integral part of this painting to enhance the illusion of a three dimensional object. / “Metaphor For A Metaphor” is about our predilection for categorizing everything that we experience, whether it fits into our scheme of things or not. And then, ultimately, resorting to using metaphors when we can’t.. / Hence the box which is distorted out of context… The round peg into a square hole that we seem to love the most…. We are all so complex…the way my mind works, especially while asleep, amazes me and makes me wonder just what our brains are capable of :-)
Fractal art. Buddha said it best when he said, The mind is everything. What you think you become. The mind is a very precious garden that needs to be nourished and weeded. If you don’t take care of your garden, it will become cluttered and overrun. Sow good seeds, nourish and tend to your garden. It’s like the Bible says, you reap what you sow. © 2008 Dave Moilanen

Deeply inspired by Anathema’s ‘Closer’. “You’re closer to the truth, within you… is the truth…” Thanks for looking! :)
A spark ignites within my brain / It quickly joins some others / They fly across my mind’s domain / The fire that cooks my druthers This simple act I call my thought / Glows within me like hot coals / My mind from which it has been wrought / May very well be my soul / / A fractal artwork inspired by the process of thought. Our thoughts are the organically generated electrical currents that ceaselessly swarm through our brains. Thought determines who and what we are, as without them we would merely be lifeless blobs of tissue and bone. Does this mean that our thoughts are actually what we call our ‘soul’? / / It brings to mind the old philosophical and quantum mechanics debates, about whether our minds actually create the reality we live in, or if our minds merely observe the reality around us. We are but infants in our quests to understand thought and the mind, and we will never understand even a fraction of the power it holds in the overall design of the cosmos. / / Now just ‘think’ about all that if you will! /

a bird on a barbed wire fence in Lawton OK. This is very near my home… Nikon D80 / May 7, 2009] We have birds making nests in our bbq if we leave the lid down. When I open it, I find bits of trash that they have collected along with the straw and twigs. We should all pay more attention to where our trash is ending up and maybe trying to buy “Naked Products” which are products with a little to no packagins as possible. Buy local and aways recycle! ;)
I don’t know where to go because I don’t really want to go anywhere. The gravity that pulls my feet is annoying and I lift a leg to dance away into the twilight’s shadows. I see through the fog of my own prison and reach out a hand that doesn’t seem like it belongs to me. I reach to the space I have seen in dreams and movies and unremembered journeys. We held hands in my mind. We were married before the sunrise overlooking a hill that drifted downward to the sea and the glass buildings of empty games. We sang to each other in my mind. We agreed to not agree. We were making love as we walked. Yet it was only in my mind. / And now I look at Venetian blinds that are stained with the smoke of memory and loss. I look beyond. I don’t wish to sleep. Not yet. So I allow myself to drift beyond the plastic and the wood and the metal and the plaster and fall into a hike along a rainbow sea that runs through a canyon of vibrant foliage and drifts away through mist and the light of accidental spontaneous freedom. Yet it is only in my mind. Or is it? And do I care?
