Acrylic and pastel on illustration paper. (1995) This is truly the first tree I ever painted, the need to paint and create was something brewing so strongly inside I had to do something about it. Yet my resources were very limited, I grabbed the only paint I had any access to, a can of my father’s black spray paint, I sprayed it into the lid of the can and used the only paintbrush I owned a cheep nylon brush from a water color kit and created. I then finished my work with the only two pastels I owned brown and black. / Necessity is the mother of invention, or maybe it’s that there is more than one way to skin a cat. (Sorry cat lovers) At any rate I grew up in a home with very few luxuries but I did have a passion to create, always, I had to feed the creativity. So this is a very special piece to me and I hope to you as well. First Tree is officially published in Artists of West First Tree was Featured in Lifestyles Magazine as part of an article about the Artists of the West coffee table book. Linaji 2009 All things are possible if we start right now to believe that here in this moment is our POINT OF ATTRACTION / That no matter for how long or what has been going on that does not seem to work can change in an instant if we understand that everything that can ever possibly happen can only happen at this point in time. NOW That everything changes when we start to see that life is suppose to be FUN and we can allow the infinite possibilities to formulate the best path for our desires to manifest. I have never seen this more true than my own life. As everyday I soften my thinking to better feeling thoughts I experience new vista’s to guide me towards that which I am becoming and that which I desire. Today has been such an easy day full of butterfly vibrations and lovely sounds and visions and YOU! xox

Reminds me of a Colorado Forest fire that I witnessed on a far away mountain.

From drizzle to drowning. From dawn to middle of the night dreams that wake me up with a “pow.” That’s it. The answer. Then in the morning the drift falls from a darkened hollow into swirls of vapor and across a seaweed forest. My pencil scrapes. My brush strokes. Awaken. Awake to dream again. A struggle to find an answer that is forgotten in the effort to do do do what I think I must must must and drive myself crazy trying to escape. To sleep on my feet in a daydream of forest palms towering over and pools of languid, blue, mirrors instead of piles of dirty laundry. Or maybe it is all really the same. / The answer laying in the soft white shift of a sheet from a drier in sunlight and waving at the light’s own laughter at the sun. / acrylic on fabric. about 4 ft x 7 ft not stretched. Acrylic on canvas 48” x 32” / My apologies for the low-res image, it is the only one I have of this painting. / The colours in the original are far richer and deeper in appearance than in this reproduction. (The painting sold ‘off the easel’ before I had time to photograph it properly) The reason for this lengthy description – which is something that I do not normally add to my work – is that, ‘Timeline’ has been entered into Mufas temporary gallery in order for critical assessment to be applied, and a decision made as to whether it is a Putist work. / Putism is a new art movement that is being created right here, right now, by artists from the Painters in Modern Times group in RedBubble. The Birth of Putism can be seen here / ............. The central form in the painting takes the shape of an (allegorical) trilobyte, an ancient creature that has lived for the whole history of our planet. Time moves from the top to the bottom of the canvas. The thin red line across the canvas represents the time that we have been on the earth. / .............. The creature is the first form that I thought of when I faced the newly primed blank canvas, while drawing in the form the idea ‘time’ entered my mind. The ‘human’ time element of the painting is also an allegory of the creative time of the artist, a brief but incandescent culmination of an immense background. We are all potentially greater than the sum of our antecedents. / ................ The painting developed a circularity of meaning, the creativity feeds and bleeds (blue) into the immensity and makes it even more immense, which feeds more creativity. The thin red diagonal line is the path through which we connect to our planet’s history and our own histories which then acts as a channel and route for our creativity. It is the ‘string’ that we have laid to find our way back. / ............... The future section at the base of the painting (the other side of the line) is painted as the mouth of a river seen from space. It represents the nourishment of the future by our creativity. I have tried to include in visual form the notion of a ‘future light cone’ ie. A space in which an action (light) entering at a singularity (the rivermouth) has a given future which expands in any unknown direction within the limitations of a conical form, the boundaries of which are prescribed by and expand over a given period of time (to infinity) – I feel that this passage of the painting did not work and almost destroyed the work at that point – I may well return to this theme as a starting point for a new work (see below) This is roughly how I work on all of my large paintings, with an instinctively conjured or remembered element (the trilobyte) and (sometimes) an allegorical theme, followed by a completely free and re-active building of expressive layers (random and controlled) until at some point……the painting starts to work. If it does not work (for me) then I destroy the image and begin again – the new work feeding from the carcass of the old one.
