I do not believe in ghosts or hauntings. As a Christian, I do think about those that I will leave behind when I go home to Jesus. This work is more a spiritual statement about those we leave behind and their time waiting until they see us again. This is a composite of several images to obtain the desired effects. This is the actual shape of the canvas The shape of the canvas becomes an integral part of this painting to enhance the illusion of a three dimensional object. / “Metaphor For A Metaphor” is about our predilection for categorizing everything that we experience, whether it fits into our scheme of things or not. And then, ultimately, resorting to using metaphors when we can’t.. / Hence the box which is distorted out of context… The round peg into a square hole that we seem to love the most…. Oil on Stretched Canvas – No Airbrushing 51 X 35 inches / 88 X 130 cm Original : / $3500 AU – excluding p&p from Melbourne, Australia / contact my Agents at Gallery 112 / ...........................................................................................

I’ve been on a mission to conquer the abstract-a true measure of an artist, I think, as there is no ‘reality’ to compare it too, no likeness to draw close to. Just you. You decide to continue, or when to stop. When to use the ‘f’ word-as we used to tease our sculpture teacher>there is no such thing as ‘finished’. I think there is. the energy passes-it’s time-if you go over, it become overworked and pushed, forced. And therein lies the art.

I’ve registered this account for my mum. Hopefully if I can entice her she will be uploading her own work and writing these descriptions sooner rather than later. This is one of her drawings or ‘doodles’ as she likes to call them. It dates from circa 1992 when, at the time, they went under-appreciated by her sons. 16 years later we have rediscovered them and Mum has had a re-invigoration for doodling. In our parent’s house they are now framed and hung in various locations. This one is in the toilet where each visit allows you to discover (invent?) previously unknown characters and scenes (much like looking at clouds when they turn into whatever you imagine). So far I have discovered, invented or imagined for this doodle: Cross-eye fish Swiss cheese jigsaw Electrified sperm (!?) 18-part caterpillar Four Brighton Beach Huts Little birdy feeding from a plant Please, add your own discoveries.

Each look allows you to discover (or imagine) new characters and scenes. Rotating the drawing reveals so much more. / So far I have discovered, invented or imagined for this doodle: Grouch Marx with eye-liner Two wee-little clowns, one with a lopsided hat Butterfly leaving it’s place of birth Toot-toot train on a lovely sunny day An alien with, well, overly large ears My dad (I assume, the alikeness can’t be a coincidence, can it?) who’s bearded and at a younger, much skinnier age decked out in nice v-neck jumper. A young girl decked out in her bikini (or is she topless?!) plucking something out of a tropical bush ... / / Please, add your own discoveries.
