The abduction of Persephone “Far from Demeter and Zeus, she was playing with the deep-bosomed daughters of Oceanus and gathering flowers over a soft meadow, roses and crocuses and beautiful violets, irises also and hyacinths and the narcissus which Earth made to grow at the will of Zeus, to be a trap for the bloom-like girl—a marvelous, radiant flower. The meadow was a thing of awe to see: from its root grew a hundred blooms and it smelled most sweetly, so that all wide heaven above and the whole earth and the sea’s salt swell laughed for joy. And the girl was amazed and reached out with both hands; but the wide-pathed earth yawned, and Hades sprang out upon her. He caught her up reluctant on his golden chariot and bore her away lamenting,to the underworld forever more.” * / 8 days of countless hours, trashing it and starting over and over and over till I got this. I think I am happy now! !0.redbubble.com/img/art/border:blackwithdetail/product

Every now and then when I feel a bit stuck for good single shot inspiration, I like to create something odd. This image was the result of one such time…

It seems about 15% of the world’s population claim to have been ‘borrowed’ by aliens. However, like library books, they do seem to be returned unharmed, apart from their minds being well read. This painting gives a general idea of how most say they are abducted – an uplifting experience. If you are one of those people I’m sure we’d all like to hear from you. Acrylic on paper.

Social comment. A bit controversial? This bag was left behind at a bus stop. I was thinking child abduction (horrible thought) so I waited for the right sets of feet in the right spot. The high contrast emphasises the crime and the intense colour indicates the loss of childhod. Could be interpreted other ways too. I’m finding it odd how random people find a way sometimes of placing themselves in my shots. Seeking to be discovered? Sometimes works – like here. Image copyright © 2007, Robert Knapman. Where’s my ruddy boat when I need it, eh? I hope this guy goes to Oz, cos’ that’s where I’d like to go next… ;-) I don’t think most ‘abductees’ are this happy, frankly…

A sketch paying homage to the hope, that life does exist outside our world. It would be a horrid waste of space, if we are the only ones out here.
