This collection of Urban Landscapes is drawn from a larger body of work called Darkscapes. They are moody evocative invitations into mystery and imagination taken from the ordinary things that make up the fabric of city life. Beauty is all around us if only we take the time to notice it. We all look but maybe we don’t all see. This collection of images is a way for me to share what I see with others. This abandoned chair in the laneway behind my home in Newtown has a real sense of pathos to it. It seems to sum up the derelict and decayed lives behind the facade of vitality and progress that makes the inner city such a wonderful place to live. / . /
Rework in an effort to improve a previous image. I loved this old abandoned house. I wondered what these walls had seen over the years..the tales within. And I wondered what still lurks :) Donnelly River, near Bridgetown, Western Australia For enquires about canvas prints, or photographic prints larger than Redbubble options, please contact me via bubblemail
A church abandoned in the ghost town of Bodie, California
Abandoned mountain huts. July 2007. Hemsedal, Norway. Canon EOS 400D with Tokina 12-24
I’ve always loved Horses, such incredible and intelligent animals….a staple of the American West, and this one was of no exception! Captured in the ghost town of Como, Colorado, this white Stallion really caught my attention….he was so friendly, but cautious as well. There is just something about the ghost town of Como that calls to me, so much history and so much of intact, few are even aware of it’s existence. If you Google it you will find out some very interesting facts about it, like the massacre that occurred here during the building of the Railroad westward. Some still live here, though not many, but in remaining with tradition, the Horse is a stable of life. And if you are wondering what those huge things are in the background, would you believe that those are boilers from the old steam trains of the 1800s? Yep, shot outside the old roundhouse…check this out Here —-—-—-—-—-—-—— See more on my website jdebordphoto.com / All artwork is © John De Bord, All Rights Reserved. If I could offer one single piece of photography advice, it would be – “Take far more shots than you need. Make sure its ‘in the can’, instead of wishing you’d done things differently.” Looking back through my folders I found some ‘handy looking’ Infrared exposures I’d made of the cooling towers at Thorpe Marsh last summer… Lightly HDR’d to lose some of the flare and finished, without too much fuss, using a subtle blue tone.

This is from White Sands National Monument in New Mexico. It’s a really amazing place; out in the middle of nowhere there’s just this huge expanse of pure white sand that looks like snow. With a warm climate and usually cloudless blue skies, it’s a great place to take photos.

I first spotted this abandoned crofters cottage a few years ago, and still it lies abandoned and unloved. I can’t tell you how much I would love to buy up this place and convert it back into a cosy home… and until I find out whether this is possible or not, the exact location of this place remains a secret ;)
Had to try this image in an antique B&W finish, I couldnt decide if I liked the color or this version better, so I thought I would post both for now! Let me know what you all think! /
