This is exactly how it looked in 1989. The ivy stays here year round. It’s weird, because it’s barren outside; winter. But when you step inside (which isn’t hard..you simply step through the wall) it looks like a summer day. Very odd & surreal feeling. Taken last week, standing in the basement looking up at the back door. More from the abandoned farmhouse series soon. :) And Happy New Year everyone!! / It’s 8:37 p.m. here. This is Thornseat Lodge, a derelict house in Derbyshire, originally a Gamekeepers house, then in 1934 was turned into an orphange and was stopped being used in the late 80’s, now it is just falling apart, such a waste

The remainder of a building, partially demolished stands right on the waters edge at an abandoned shipbuilding yard. This is the view walking up the main driveway of this abandoned boarding school, i wonder how many kids were unhappy to be taken along this route and left by their parents at the start of the term.

Most of the windows in this place were either cracked, broken or completely removed. It made for some eerie nosies when walking about in the place with the wind rattling through and the curtains flapping about etc.

These were so lovely that coming at them from any new angle gave you an entirely different shot that you just had to take. Someone had obviously stolen the brass rods as you can see from the carpet being bunched here, but thats so very little to worry about when i think about what they could have done here.

The exterior of this old stately home is really quite grand, and i think made by the same architect as the Way to school building due to the presence of many similar features such as the plaque space above the door etc.

The grand staircase, this time shot with only available light/mirk for a more unsettling ‘Silent Hill’ look. Just a little light tone mapping to avoid burn-out and retain shadow detail, otherwise this is all natural – including the small scrap of very blue wallpaper in the bottom left.

I found another abandoned farm house yesterday… everything was left as it was. There were still books in the bookcase and dishes in the cupboard. The Wood Family Farmhouse was built in 1866. Some time after the civil war the family lost all their investments and sold the home and farmland to the Harris family. The last occupant, Mrs. Harris passed away in the house in the late 1970’s, and the house has been left alone ever since. Suisinish is an abandoned village reached after a rough hour- long walk from Kilbride, near Torrin, Isle of Skye. / This old cottage is too modern to have been one of the dwellings where the folk were evicted to make way for the sheep, which were more profitable to the greedy landowners of the time. Many of the families were separated, and forced to emigrate to America, Canada, and Australia. / I cannot begin to feel their anguish. / There are many ruins scattered around the Brae (hillside), evidence of a thriving, close-knit community torn apart by human greed. Maybe this bulding was built early in the twentieth century, I have no idea and can find no information. / Back to the present….. / There was quite a wait for some usable light, a chilly fierce wind was blowing, rain was brewing, nothing new ! We sat in the shelter of one of those deserted ruins, eating a cheese piece, ( sandwich ) and a cheering cup of hot coffee from the thermos, reflecting on how ‘they’ lived then, compared to us nowadays, and watching the sheep that are now the only inhabitants of this beautiful place. / Rowan trees were planted in the belief they kept evil spirits away, and it is considered very bad luck to cut one down, even today ! This cottage is surrounded by them, I guess the magic didn’t work. A three shot HDR. CanonEOS 40D mounted on tripod, iso 100, auto wb, f22, RAW files converted in Photomatix, and touched up in Adobe CS3. / A little Orton also applied to ‘pop’ the texture of the stone. / A slight vignette added.
