  • Old abandoned farmhouse, South Australia. / Rollieflex SL66, 40mm Distagon lens. Fuji Velvia film. © Ern Mainka

  • The shipwreck of the S. S. Dicky on a Sunshine Coast Beach in Australia. A 40 ton steamer ran aground in 1893. The sea has gradually carved away at it after over 110 years of the waves washing over it. A glorious sunrise helped illuminate it as the tides began to come in.

  • Christmas night at the Show in Coffs Harbour…dead! / But the colours were beautiful and I wanted to test out my new camera I had got for Chrissy. / I added some texture and colour in Photoshop.

  • A battered and broken typewriter lays in pieces on a floor in an abandoned mental asylum. I wonder how many of the inmates used this to write a letter home to loved ones?

  • dont know why, but the varying states of the cisterns and seats on these three toilets reminded me of the three monkeys! Taken in an abandoned mental asylum.

  • A quick view of the outside of the building ,standing tall and defiant against the vandalism and damage that has attacked her inner sanctum. Hopefully one day this place could be recovered and the broken insides replaced, though i doubt it will happen. This place really is a beautiful place, and certainly something i will be making a point of visiting again when i am in the area to cover some of the rooms and locations i didn’t get time for on this occasion.

  • And for the final shot of this site, a shot of the facade of the building and the small driveway leading up to it. Scotland has quite a few lovely buildings which have been abandoned of them, this is but one of many wonderful treasures the country has.

  • What remains of the Cafe and probably lodgings above it. / I was in Turkey to attend ANZAC Day at Gallipoli. / I became fascinated with Istanbul and decided to walk the backstreets which is where I found this old cafe. / Istanbul, is truley a very remarkable place. Olympus E300 / 14 – 45 mm lens.

  • I thought the view looking down the hall from the Altar was stunning, then i walked to the other end and looked back, and it was even better!

  • I found this suitcase in an abandoned house and was struck by its pattern. Tilt Shift lens so very little focus and a lot of visual.

  • From certain viewpoints the old cement works in Geelong looks like a bomb site (or what I imagine a bomb site looks like). The stormy sky just added to the feeling of destruction. / HDR created with tone mapping and tonal adjustment. / Nikon D300 with 12 – 24 mm wide angle lens.
