At times when menacing skies deliver a statement formatted in dark clouds, make sure to read the small drizzle carefully. Occasionally known to be a person who doesn’t want his determination undermined by a rational argument, I ignored it. A mosaic of randomly placed stones left a peculiar grinding sound with each step I made, unbalancing me on a couple of occasions. The uneven surface, unfamiliar environment and cold southerly wind stretched the beach to its maximum size. Here they were, lying hopeless before me. The leviathans from green oceans of alpine rainforests have lost their biological contest. The faith may not be swift, but certainly inevitable for the beached whales of a different kind waiting for their demise on an unforgiving southern coast. I put my hand on them. Their rugged bodies felt eerily warm. No matter how big or strong one may be the law of existence refuses to give up on you. You can postpone it, but not avoid it. Life will be repossessed, the body recycled and today’s eternity will become history.

And everything she symbolizes – the familiar sights and sounds, the period of our lives embedded in long term memory with our mothers, sisters, aunties and neighbors in it, the uniform sound of a sewing machine intertwined with casual chitchat. I still remember those gentle hands, gliding skillfully over soft materials, more than capable of turning a piece of fabric into lovable garments. Even my first girlfriend, the sweetest of souls, from a family of many, used to make clothes for herself, in patterns and colors she desired, as tight as I could wish, to perfectly fit the young man’s eye. Nowadays, the skill has migrated to distant lands, in search of a new pair of hands, not necessarily gentler, certainly cheaper. Time flies. We are left to do what people whose expiry date is fast approaching do – recycle the recollection of the good old days, the age when we were young and good looking. Now, we are only good looking. Such is life.

For a change, wake up early, walk to an interesting destination, one with an aura of permanent popularity like a waterfall or beach, and infuse your artistic being with an extra dose of organic beauty. I reached the pristine flow and witnessed it right on time, tranquil and clear, painted by a mystifying glow, no sun or moon can claim. The sight was so surreal, the river itself had to stop and make a couple of circles before departing towards the sea. Scented green branches diluted their reflections in its placid water, the skeletons of fallen trees slowly morphed back into daylight shapes. The mist and part of the river that managed to take off as a vapor danced softly in mid air. I trapped a little playful bird with my eyes. / / A complete mental inventory for a fairy flavored daydream. Even if your digital masterpiece stays short of its cerebral counterpart, how can you fail to remember the sight that can suspend all of your uncertainties, the insanely lush hazy forest and its river that wears fallen leaves like jewelry. Well, is there a point in getting up early? If the just spoken plea is not enough I can give you a better reason. You should do it because you still can; a fact that may not be equally true tomorrow.
