  • plainly ~ i love you
    by Adriana Glackin

    US$6.65–US$152.00

Image for a challenge using plain white paper. Using long exposure and torchlight to light the area, this is what I came up with. exp – 8 seconds / f3.5 / iso 80 / FL 31mm / eveready torch with piano certificate held in front to diffuse the torchlight, only other props include sticky tape and one sheet of plain white photocopy paper, and lots of patience. At one stage, a rotating multi-coloured disco light was involved, but this was soon abandoned due to the law of physics/light not matching the image in my head :(

  • CLIP ART 01

  • Okay, the photoshop contest has me going… Here is a composite that I just put together. The jet is a Skyhawk A4 that has long since been retired. In fact, it’s on a pole in Panama City, Florida. The background is Dallas, taken from the top of Reunion Tower and motion blurred for effect.

A4 Pacific 60007 “Sir Nigel Gresley” at the North / Yorkshire Moors Railway. Taking a rest between runs.

  • Both hands and feet, these are the parts of the human body that I always seem to find hardest to draw?! Especially so when I’m trying to draw these purely from imagination, alone. Therefore, I decided to go copy from ‘reality’, instead; I downloaded an internet photo of a naked woman; and, then, using ACDSee95 (old version which I seem to love best; so, I didn’t even bother to update it?!) graphic software…I zoomed in on the particular part of her body which did most interest me…namely, her feet/or, more precisely, her foot.

  • Sometimes I don’t like to draw only objective art, alone; but, instead, I just wish to free up my mind and hand to do anything at all it pleases; such as play around with creating purely abstract shapes. Will it come out good/or, crap?! As a matter of fact, doing this form of exercise I find also helps me when I’m drawing realistically, as well; because it allows me to create abstract backgrounds for realistic objects which are being placed in the foreground. There are many abstract artists who I do very deeply admire including Miro, Kandinsky, Klee, -etc.

  • cat copied from book cover

  • I recall this was my ‘first’ truly successful black Biro pen self-portrait; which I drew standing up in front of the mirror; must have taken me all of around 1/2 an hour long! (After 1/2 an hour has come; then, I’m afraid, all of my patience has completely gone; I no longer enjoy the drawing process anymore; and, instead, it feels like having become a total chore; where I have to ‘force’ myself to continue! I have ADD/Attention Deficit Disorder; which means having a very short attention span; very soon after I’ve started working on something ‘new’; I will find myself giving up and wondering off to go find something else to do, instead. I often wondered to myself…but, what if I could spend something like 1 hour before the mirror or more…; then, possibly, I would achieve my ultimate goal, which is to go and create a ‘photographically real’ looking self-portrait?)

  • Emotion's Bed
    by Sarah Bentvelzen

    US$4.99–US$114.00

I love this art work too much to sell… but in print form I’m all too happy about! / This is part of my collection of works using a secret kind of medium. Patent pending, patent pending!!!! It’s on A4 paper. I don’t have exact dates for these works, but they were created early in 2004. View my website to see more… / sarahbentvelzen.com

  • I drew this skull with a pencil on A4 plain copier paper after pausing the TV’s video frame.

  • 60024 'Kingfisher'
    by Steamweb

    US$3.99–US$28.50

An A4 Pacific regains speed after a speed restriction at New Milton while on a railtour in 1966.

  • This was the last self-portrait I did of myself by looking into the mirror.

  • Self-portrait drawn by looking into the mirror. I’d taken a blank sheet of A4 paper; and, did use it to practice making some origami shape such as a paper hat or something; when, all of a sudden, I decided let me go unfold the paper(hence the crease marks all over it); and, then, draw myself a self-portrait; basically, just to get in some much needed practice; which I usually tend to be awfully lazy about getting on with doing. Furthermore, I do recall it was just one months time to my next birthday(44); and, I was thinking just how old and tired I looked; and, how most of my younger dreams had almost died…totally faded and gone over time; with almost no possibility being left of me being able to achieve any of these same goals anymore?! Well, time to switch over towards achieving brand ‘new’ goals, I guess. ;-) /

  • Self-portrait drawn before the mirror just after my 44th birthday; and, boy, do I look really old, worn out, tired!

  • Self-portrait drawn by looking straight into the mirror. As I can recall, I had around 2 sheets of blank A4 paper; which I then doubled up, and, carefully folded over in half…to become 8 x sides of A5 papers. I next determined to draw a self-portrait on each page. This was one of the first of those 8 drawings.

  • Pencil copy of a female figure’s head from old master painting, Noli me tangere/(touch me not) by Anton Raphael Mengs.

  • I’m interested in abstract art; because I’m also deeply interested in finding out more about and exploring the unconcious; questions arise such as where does such art truly spring from? And, why did the artist choose to use those particular shapes(and, not some other shapes, instead)? Does it really have any meaning/or, none?! -Etc.

  • I was in the mood to experiment; how to draw a head by using a series of scribbled lines; as opposed to using the usual very highly precise lines; and, this was the end result which came out.

  • I decided to have a go at doing a quick sketch of what I believe is a golden retriever type of dog sculpture found at Hyde Park, London.
