RedBubble Breeds Winners

It took a while tonight, but I eventually found a few links to the winners of that fantastic photo competition we all entered a few months ago! Whilst I was not a winner in any of the categories (I had submissions in three of them), I’m still winning by being a registered member here. See, I am selling my work. I use my RedBubble gallery as a base to display my work … and I sell a lot of photographs offline! Last week I had 60 prints (at 6inch x 4inch) of my photography on RedBubble printed at TEDS in Rundle Street in Adelaide . No big deal. Took them to work yesterday. Showed a few women. Within an hour, quite a few of those ladies put instant requests in. A couple just wanted more 6×4’s, and one wants a couple at A4 size. Late this afternoon one remarked that I should have brought in MORE cards for Father’s Day! Damn, but I had a good come back line, Next Year!. Actually, I’m planning to get about 100 to 200 printed through RB before the end of November – for Christmas cards. I’ve been informed they should sell VERY fast! So now we are moving a few steps ahead: Tomorrow we (the wife and I) are getting 20 x A4 prints of these photographs, all of which are on display on RB: From SaharaBelle’s Collection / 1. Walking on Sunshine / 2. Diggin In / 3. Starry Eyed / 4. Like Pollen Through a Straw / 5. Honey Pot / 6. Flower Bug / 7. Sweet Prison / 8. Flaming Nectar / 9. Loaded / 10. Seed Pods / (Yes, number 10 is in my collection. However, because it sold as one of mine, SWMBO has agreed to leave it where it is! Otherwise it would be deleted as a sale!) From Stephentrepreneur’s Collection / 1. How to Bee A Lily / 2. White Gums II / 3. VOC Portrait / 4. VOC Left Door / 5. VOC Tray II / 6. The Cart Behind The Horse / 7. Coffee in the CarPark / 8. Shell Necklace / 9. Tranquiliser / 10. Open Arms Plus two more for a very lovely female friend who wants to frame these her own way : gold gilding on a large frame! / 1. Off His Hinges / 2. Waiting But what then? , I hear you all cry out! Well, I’m forming a portfolio. / Next year I’d like to do a proper photographic course. I’ve been waiting twenty-something years to afford to do this … which is WAAAY too long. After watching younger people around me jump into fantastic jobs and positions over the last few months, I’ve decided it’s FINALLY time to and be more. All the photographs above will be put into a new A3 folder I purchased some time ago. Then I will take that around with me to show off. You want to buy one? OK, either you buy straight from the folder (though I am not sure about that idea), or I take your details and deliver. The whole concept is still being worked on, so we have some planning to work out. My father is an astute business man, and I have a brother whom is a brilliant salesman … so I hope to get both their time-tested advice on certain issues very shortly. / The folder will also be used to convince Adelaide TAFE that I am a worthy student. I won’t write my sales-pitch to the TAFE here, it’s a little corny … but all very true. More about the next stage of this new adventure in my life will be on display over the next week. And I’ll be writing about how we plan to build a Home-Studio and the New Kitchen over the coming months! Fifteen Cards for Sale on Redbubble / / Fifteen Cards from RedBubble / A Big HELLO to everyone around Adelaide who’s seeing more of my photography! Particularly those people at my day job. I guess my life outside of work isn’t a secret anymore! And why I smile more often than I have in a long time.

Which way do I go? / I was turning back on to the A3 highway at Pyengana.

This is the second half of my collection of charcoal, pencil, soft pastel and cardboard on A3 paper… the first half being ‘The Closing Darkness’. This piece was created the same day as ‘The Closing Darkness’, from memory. Somewhere in 2004 or 2005.
-
This was created in 2004 with black and white soft pastels, on A3 paper. I basically got the inspiration for this piece from the film, ‘The Ring’. I loved the part of the film where they closed up the well. The mixed metaphors of that act inspired me to create a similar image.

Felt-tip pen on A3 paper. I did this for an art assessment in 2004. My teacher wasn’t very fond of it, even though it took me bloody forever to complete. You should have seen some of the crap works the other people handed in that got higher marks than me! Insane! / He didn’t like my whole collection I handed in… and from there things went downhill. / The teacher wasn’t teaching us everything he was supposed to that was in the syllabus, and a lot of his students got poor marks in the exams following, because we weren’t taught things that would be in the exams. Eventually I dropped art in year 12. / (This should really be in a journal… oh well) This was created in early 2004.

A3
by Rob Stagnitta -
Simon with the Rose is a kind of expressionist painting of my boyfriend, Simon. / I used black ink, white oil pastel, and black calligraphy pen to highlight. It was painted on A3 paper. I have a second variation of this piece, that I plan to add to this site later. It was painted on the 17th May 2006.

Simon as Little Bo-Peep is another painting of my boyfriend, Simon. I painted this from a picture from a costume party. It’s painted with black ink, white oil pastel and black calligraphy pen on A3 paper. It was painted on the 18th May 2006.
-
This is another of my favourite pieces. It is a drawing where I used soft pastels on A3 paper. It was created on the 28th May 2006.
-
No, it’s not a typo. It’s spelt ‘Simónt’. I like to put French accents on Simon’s name. It’s silly, nevermind. Simon is a great model for me, when he wants to be. Anyway, I used soft pastels on A3 paper in this work. ‘Simónt in Pastel’ was created on the 31st May 2006.

Soft pastels on A3 paper. Created in 2004, methinks. This work was an experimentation with soft pastels. But I still consider it a work nontheless and I really love it. It’s hanging above my bed.

Soft pastels on A3 paper.

Created in early 2004 for an art assessment. Oil pastels on A3 paper.

Sorry this is the only pic I have available of this piece momentarily. If anyone wants to purchase this as a print, contact me, and I’ll get a better pic for you. this was done in 2004 with soft pastels on A3 paper.

Just Frankensteining some 3D models.. Seems to be working pretty well… Still can’t make it open in Carrara without about two dozen error messages though… but it opens fine in DS and Poser, so it’s gotta have something Carrara can’t handle… we’ll see what happens when I try to open my Carrara file 0.0

Italic on Black: the beginning
by John ReidThis is the first piece I’ve ever uploaded, to Red Bubble or anywhere. You can view it here....
This is the first piece I’ve ever uploaded, to Red Bubble or anywhere. You can view it here. The description it has attached to it reads: “When my lovely wife gave me my first fountain pen I spent hours just enjoying the flow of ink, watching it slide from thick to thin. This piece is a composite of that first A3 page, featuring a fractal-like level of abstract detail. Enjoy.” There’s a little more to the story, if you’re interested. My fascination with fountain pens began with Neil Gaiman. I really like his writing and got into the habit of reading his blog. Along the way he mentioned how much he loved writing with his fountain pens and how they prevented him from endlessly editing his initial ideas (as opposed to a word processor). The seed of my fountain pen love was planted there. Then my wife bought me my italic pen. It’s a pen with a thin but wide nib, the kind of shape that created our current roman typefaces. I tried using it for normal writing but found I had to write pretty slow and large to be legible. However, the shapes I was creating were really interesting. If I drew in one direction the pen produced a thin line; drawing at 90 degrees to that thin line formed a thick line. It’s just so organic, so different to what I’d produce on my Mac. This piece began as a little doodle to get used to the pen on a pad of A3 I keep beside my Mac. At this time I was doing an awful lot of signage and that meant an awful lot of 300+ meg files with very slow progress bars. Letting the pen glide over the paper was the perfect time filler. Day by day, progress bar by progress bar, the sheet filled up. When it finally came to an end, I found myself just staring at the page. Having forgotten each of the individual marks I had made, it seemed everytime I looked at it, a new pattern revealed itself. Nice. From there it was a simple matter of scanning the art and applying some colour in Photoshop. Italic on Black is the beginning of my love affair with fountain pens and I’m thrilled to share it with you. Let me know what you think.
