On Brighton beach is a free boating museum, which was more just a collection of old bits and peices that didn’t work anymore. This one took my fancy and is now in my Red Bubble portfolio.

This shot has a bit of a story behind it, I was with a group of fellow photographers on what we call a Ferry Hop expedition. Basically we spend the day or most of it, riding the Sydney Ferries to different destinations taking photos on board and where ever we disembark. On this particular outing a few of my fellow photographers and I decided to issue a challenge, walk up to perfect strangers and ask for to take their photo. This was only the second person I ask after the challenge was issued. This lovely gentleman had a great face, a lovely white and gray beard and looked just the part for a nautical theme. As it happens when I approached him, we were nearing a replica tall ship and the Darling Harbour light house (scene in the background). Well all the elements just fell into place, and I only took two shots but I knew I had bag a great image, I thanked the Sea Captain as I’ve now called him, showed him the image and let him travel the rest of the trip in peace. I’m considering entering this in the portrait section of the Real Photography compeition, while it may be a little unconventional, it’s one of my favourite portraits (and most the others my wife won’t let me post as they are pictures of her).

This was taken at Sheep River Falls, Alberta when several kayakers came through. Some portaged around the falls. A couple of them made the jump.

I am most proud of this shot so far in my short time doing photography. This image incorporates my passionate nature with my love of the ocean. I used to lobster fish with my Dad and so the ocean holds a lot of dear, and not so dear LOL, memories for me. I almost froze my hands off doing this. It was snowing a little while before I took this shot so you can imagine close to the water, with a breeze, how cold it was. However, in the name of love and romance, anything goes! LOL

/ Tobermory is a gorgeous little town on the northern tip of the Bruce Peninsula in Ontario. It’s harbor not only filled with luxury yachts but also with a lot of shipwrecks, which makes it a divers paradise. It’s part of the Fathom Five National Marine Park of Canada. Luckily for me you don’t have to dive to discover a few of the shipwrecks. Luckily because I spent to much time underwater once, without diving gear, and I’m not inclined to submerge myself for longer periods under water. ;) This beauty caught my eye when strolling along the shore, with the duck approaching, I had to hurry but I was just in time to capture it. This image is one of my most popular wallpapers on my wallpaper website and I hope it will make me proud here also. This was taken at a dam in Oakbank in the Adelaide Hills, Australia in winter at dawn. We don’t get any snow in Adelaide, as our summers are very hot. There is still some fog around on the water. This is pure bliss to me. This was taken with a Canon DSLR EOS 350D camera, on a tripod. This was taken because of the mood created with the fog, the winter sunlight lighting up the boat and the 3 waterfowl swimming in the opposite direction to the boat.

We enjoyed the mellow dusk settle on this perfect anchorage with pints of beer in hand, outside the renowned Forge inn, (officially Britains remotest mainland pub). The tiny scottish hamlet of Inverie is inaccessible by road, only by sea or a demanding walk of many miles. We had crossed to the unspoilt area of the knoydart peninsula by ferry from Mallaig for some amazing walking (see the series of 3 pics on heartbeat ridge . The sights on arrival were just captivating with wildflowers galore, deer roaming gardens, peacocks roosting (see bird in a tree and I also got the precious shot of morning gems. In the book, “Shangri-La” is a mystical, harmonious valley, gently guided from a lamasery, enclosed in the western end of the Kunlun Mountains. Shangri-La has become synonymous with any earthly paradise but particularly a mythical Himalayan utopia—a permanently happy land, isolated from the outside world. In the novel Lost Horizon, the people who live at Shangri-La are almost immortal, living years beyond the normal lifespan. The word also evokes the imagery of exoticism of the Orient.*

Aharrrrr! Jim-kitty! Here is the noble Pirate Cat, his legs taken from him by a particularly vicious pike off the Isle of Dogs, he sails on, with his trusty squid Archibald. Unbeknownst to Pirate Cat, Archibald isn’t so much a trusty squid as a squid with some of its legs caught in his ship’s rudder, but over time he has grown fond of Pirate Cat and secretly quite enjoys travelling with him.

By the middle of the 12th century, the city represented a significant transit point for goods from Rouen to England. Located on the estuary of one of the principal rivers of France with a safe harbour and relatively rich hinterland, Honfleur profited from its strategic position from the start of the Hundred Years’ War. The town’s defences were strengthened by Charles V in order to protect the estuary of the Seine from attacks from the English. This was supported by the nearby port of Harfleur. However, Honfleur was taken and occupied by the English in 1357 and from 1419 to 1450. When under French control, raiding parties often set out from the port to ransack the English coasts, including partially destroying of the town of Sandwich, in Kent, England, in the 1450s. At the end Hundred Years’ War, Honfleur benefited from the boom in maritime trade until the end of the 18th century. Trade was disturbed during the wars of religion in the 16th century. The port saw the departure of a number of explorers, in particular in 1503 of Binot Paulmierde Gonneville to the coasts of Brazil. In 1506, Honfleurais Jean Denis departed to Newfoundland island and the mouth of the Saint Lawrence. An expedition in 1608, organised by Samuel de Champlain, founded the city of Quebec in modern day Canada. / After 1608, Honfleur thrived on trade with Canada, the Antilles, the African coasts and the Azores. As a result the town was one of the five principal ports for the slave trade in France. During this time the rapid growth of the town saw the demolition of its fortifications on the orders of Colbert. The wars of the French revolution and the First Empire,and in particular the continental blockade,caused the ruin of Honfleur. It only partially recovered during the 19th century with the trading of wood from northern Europe. Trade was however limited by the silting up of the entrance to the port and development of the modern port at Le Havre. The port however still functions today.
