This image shows the lights remembering the Twin Towers over Manhattan on the 11th September 2007. The sombre air over the city lightens as the night descends and the beauty of the lights is exposed. The City awakes from melancholy and the streets have an electric feel as the inhabitants wander and wonder at the display.

  • Never Forget-911 / This is dedicated to all the men & woman and children who lost their lives that very tragic day on “Sept 11th, 2001” / Please let us all light a candle just to reflect and respect the one’s who lost there life that day! For this is a day never to forget.. And May we also remember the Servicemen & Woman at War!!! May God Bless America! And may God Bless the World! Warmly, / Rita H. Ireland

  • I remember the day vividly. America has always felt like home to me, much more than the UK ever has. / I watched the live coverage over the internet and it will haunt me forever. The first thing I did was to call my loved ones just to hear their voices….I was lucky that I could do that. To all in the USA, and all of those affected throughout the world, peace, love and light, always and all ways…...xox Imagine there’s no Heaven, It’s easy if you try / No hell below us, above us only sky / Imagine all the people living for today / Imagine there’s no countries, it isn’t hard to do / Nothing to kill or die for and no religion too / Imagine all the people living life in peace / You may say that I’m a dreamer but I’m not the only one / I hope someday you’ll join us and the world will be as one / Imagine no possessions I wonder if you can / No need for greed or hunger, a brotherhood of man / Imagine all the people sharing all the world / You may say that I’m a dreamer but I’m not the only one / I hope someday you’ll join us and the world will live as one. • 911 NEVER FORGET SEPT 11 2001
    by DALE CRUM

    US$4.84–US$129.20

7 years ago, this morning, on September, 11, 2001--I sat there, with all of you, as we collectively went through the deepest levels, of National and Personal: / Mourning-Rage-Screaming-Crying-Shock-Vengence-Hate-Loss-Amazement-Partriotism…we all dealt with it then-and deal with it now—in our own ways. That day and the subsequent years of “fallout” have taken a toll on our Great Nation; for Good, for Bad, and for Ugly. MAY WE NEVER FORGET!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!—-alllllllll of it. I have created many works of art about September 11th, but this one seems to be the Best one to share with you today; on this anniversary day. May we never forget the thousands who were lost then--and the thousands who are BEING LOST today. And--may our leaders find any way it takes—to stop this running tally. I truly pray, that this image of mine, will help HEAL our National, Wounded Hearts, and in any small way, help to bring comfort to us all. And, when I hear folks talking trash about America, I always know this—-they have never seen what I have seen. I always wish I could instantly translate them to perhaps, one of the thousands of flithy tin, or cardboard shelters of Haiti, where many families have to sleep on the ground, in shifts, and fight for anything they might be able to scratch up to eat. And, see the children gathered around the garbage heaps, to find food next to the pigs. Or, mothers washing their babies in stagnant poors, of contaminated runoff waters. *If you don’t like it here-———then PLEASE LEAVE! I REFUSE TO FORGET 911. GOD BLESS MY BEAUTIFUL COUNTRY! I AM STILL PROUD TO BE CALLED AN AMERICAN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I had fallen asleep on the lounge late, the television had lulled me with its nonsensical banter… A mother of a 3 year old and a young baby learns to grab her sleep when she can. When I awoke at about 1am in the morning, I was certain that I had woken midway through some big budget Hollywood disaster movie. I was confused by the news headlines scrolling across the bottom of the screen but simply assumed it was all a part of the storyline. Perhaps the main characters were a group of Lois and Clark-esque reporters who were witnessing the coupe of their news careers unfolding before their very eyes… And then a familiar face popped up on the screen… Not some fictional character being played by Tom Hanks or Geena Davis, but my very own local bigwig on the news scene. As my brain synapses started madly firing, trying to make a connection that I was fighting with every atom in my being, I distinctly remember the very moment my heart stopped… This wasn’t a late night Hollywood blockbuster… this was real. And it was happening right now. My heart started beating again… double time and skipping about like a rabbit on speed. The first tower had already been hit, and I was playing catchup… desperately trying to make sense of what was happening when right before my eyes I saw the second plane slam into its target. My tears came then, and they just kept on coming. My cries awoke hubby and he came running to see what had upset me so… He joined me in my vigil, and I took comfort in his presence even though no words were spoken betwen us. Somewhere in the small hours of the morning my baby awoke and I fed him on autopilot, then held him until the sun rose. All the time watching this heartbreaking disaster unfold half a world away. I have tried to raise my children the best way I know how. I strive to be honest in my answers to their questions even if they are sometimes a little curly. I will not lie to them, but try explain things to them in an age appropriate way. I have tried to teach them that everyone deserves a fair go, no matter if their skin is a different colour to ours, or if they wear strange clothes, or if they speak a little differently to us. It is what is on the inside that counts, and how that person treats his fellow man. “Mummy, why are you crying?” asked my three year old when he woke up the morning after the world went mad. “I’m crying because I have just watched a lot of people die in another country, and it has made me really sad.” “Was there a war Mummy?” “No honey, there wasnt a war” “Then how did they all die?” How? How do you explain something as horrific as this? And I did have to explain it… somehow… I knew that no matter how much I sheltered him (and really… would sheltering him completely from the atrocities of the world do him any favours in the long run? I dont believe it would) the events of 9/11 were so earthshattering that I knew he could not escape it completely. I tried to answer his question… as simply as I could. “Baby, some men crashed some aeroplanes into some buildings and they killed a lot of people.” “Thats a bad accident hey Mum?” my baby said to me. “Honey, it wasn’t an accident. They did it on purpose.” Confusion in his big brown eyes as he asks me in a tiny voice “But… why?” “Because sometimes people do really bad things to other people darlin, for things that they believe in… Its not nice, and it hurts so many people, but it happens.” And as he crawled into my lap and I wrapped my arms around him, I felt his tears mingle with my own and I knew that with those words I had been forced to steal something from this child of my heart that he should have been able to keep for at least a few more years… His innocence. September 11 – A Living Memorial Overcome – lyrics by Live. even now the world is bleedin’ but feelin’ just fine all numb / in our castle where we’re always free to choose never free enough / to find i wish somethin’ would break cuz we’re runnin’ out of time and i am overcome i am overcome holy water in my lungs i am overcome these women in the street pullin’ out their hair my master’s / in the yard givin’ light to the unaware this plastic little place / is just a step amongst the stairs and i am overcome i am overcome baby holy water in my lungs i am overcome so drive me out out to that open field turn the ignition off / and spin around your help is here but i’m parked in this open space / blockin’ the gates of love i am overcome i am overcome holy water in my lungs i am overcomed beautiful drowning this beautiful drowning this holy water / this holy water is in my lungs and i am overcome i am overcome i am overcome i am overcome

My condolences to all people in USA… It touches me deeply your tragedy…. / I hope we can all learn to live in peace… respecting our differencies… But to be honest, there was an earlier tragedy to our latin american people that we live sadly every year since 1973… Because it was the beginning of the most violent an awful part of our history in the region… / September 11th,1973 Chilean coup d’état… / The Chilean coup d’état of 1973 was a watershed event in the history of Chile and the Cold War. Historians and partisans alike have wrangled over its implications ever since. / On September 11, 1973, less than two months after the first failed coup attempt (Tanquetazo), and less than a month after the Chamber of Deputies, where the Opposition held a majority, condemned Allende’s alleged breaches of the constitution, the Chilean military overthrew president Salvador Allende, who died during the coup. US intervention in Chilean politics and support to opponents of Allende, including support for an assassination, has been documented by the declassification in 1998 of documents concerning the Project FUBELT operations, although its exact nature is still controversial. General Augusto Pinochet took over and established an anti-communist military dictatorship which lasted until 1990. The worst violence occurred in the first few months after the coup, with the number of suspected leftists killed or “disappeared” soon reaching into the thousands. In the days immediately following the coup, the National Stadium was used for the internment of 40,000 opponents. Some of the most famous cases of “desaparecidos” are Charles Horman, a U.S. citizen who was tortured and killed during the coup itself; Chilean songwriter Víctor Jara, murdered while held prisoner at the Chile Stadium immediately after the coup, and the October 1973 Caravan of Death (Caravana de la Muerte) where at least 70 persons were killed. Approximately 130,000 individuals were arrested in a three-year period, with the number of dead and “disappeared” reaching into the thousands within the first few months. Those include the British physician Sheila Cassidy, who later brought awareness to the UK public of human rights violations in Chile. Among those detained was current Chilean President Michelle Bachelet’s father Alberto, an official in the airforce. Bachelet was, according to a major Chilean newspaper, allegedly tortured and died of heart failure on March 12, 1974 after playing a basketball match (he had a history of heart issues). Other sources make no mention of the alleged basketball match, and state that he died after torture. Bachelet herself and her mother were detained in the Villa Grimaldi detention and torture center on January 10, 1975, with all but one16 source stating she and her mother were tortured. Following Pinochet’s defeat in the 1988 plebiscite, the 1991 Rettig Commission, a multipartisan effort from the democratic government to discover the truth about the allegations, listed a number of torture and detention centers (such as Colonia Dignidad, Esmeralda ship or Víctor Jara Stadium), and found that at least 2,700 people were killed or disappeared by the regime between 1973 and 1990. A later report, the Valech Report (published in November 2004), confirmed the figure of less than 3,000 deaths, but dramatically reduced the alleged cases of disappearances. It tells of some 28,000 arrests in which the majority of those detained were incarcerated and in a great many cases tortured. Many were exiled and received abroad, in particular in Argentina, as political refugees; however, they were followed in their exile by the secret police DINA (National Intelligence Directorate), in the frame of Operation Condor which linked South American dictatorships together against political opponents.
