This photo was taken from the moon roof of my car as it was raining. That day I had gone out to take some photos and the flags were at half staff because of the death of a soldier in Iraq. It reminded me of 9-11 which we remember today and it seemed like tears from heaven. Such a sad day in our history plus a sad day still for families that still lose loved ones. We will never forget 9-11 and those that died needlessly due to terrorism. Also those that went to serve, protect and to heal we pay tribute to those that gave their lives’ that day.
Scarification is a means of permanently marking the skin by cutting alone, without the use of pigments. The scars may be lighter or darker than your original skin tone and may raise up (keloid scarring). There are many ways to produce a scar but the cut must always penetrate the dermis if a scar is to be produced. The result depends as much on your skin as the method used. Black skin in particular is very good at producing pronounced keloid scars and this is a popular alternative to tattooing for people with very dark skin, for whom a tattoo might not show up very well. In many parts of Africa these scars are marks of beauty and a way to identify someone belonging to a particular group. Scarification also may mark one’s status as a civilized being, adult, or member of a specific ethnic group or initiation association. We have this dear friend Dorothy, who for some crazy reason has never received a painting of mine. / She mentioned this to me a few weeks back. / It is hard to believe, because I mostly give my paintings away to friends and family. / Rarely is there a sale!! :( / Anyway,,,, I told her to go to www.myspace.com/whitedovestudio and let me know which painting she would like to have. / And if it iwas available I would be happy to give it to her. / Well,,,, of all my paintings to choose from, / she responded with “Standing Proud” / text can be linked“ / “Standing Proud” was not for sale or for “give-away” I told her. / I asked her why she chose that…. / I seems that her dad (now deceased) was a steel worker who worked on “The Twin Towers”. / He was one of the few men who erected the antenna on the Second tower. / She is so proud of her dad and said he is “rolling over in his grave” over what had happened on 9/11. / I usually do not like to re-make a painting as it usually just doesn’t feel right… / This is an exception…. / Dorothy…. This is for You and Your Dad (RIP) / With much love ….. / and as always / Aloha’ / KJ / Acrylic on Wood / ORIGINAL NOT AVAILABLE FOR SALE /

A few days ago Shelly Hiebert asked for us to post a self-portrait, so that we can emerge from behind the camera and others can learn a little more about the shooter. Well, I learnt how incredibly difficult it is to take a decent self-portrait. I think I finally got one I don’t mind sharing, it depicts a day in my life that will haunt me forever. Taken with Nikon D300, Sigma 28mm f/2.8 MF lens and SB800. If you would like to participate in this challenge, please follow this link
Can you see the image of one of the President’s mentioned in the poem? hint – look in the upper right hand corner to find the profile of “a bearded man in the stovepipe hat” (without the hat). I guess our work has his approval. / scroll to the bottom of the description to see where to look. Featured in / Love Is / Country Bumpkin This is a collaboration with VampyreAce. The poem A Tribute to 9/11 is his work – the cloud background is our image. When you leave comments for us, please be sure to stop by his site to let him know your reactions and feelings, too. Thank you. Many Thanks to VampyreAce for allowing us to use his amazing poem. A Tribute to 9/11 Two thousand one, nine eleven / Five thousand plus arrive in heaven. / As they pass through the gate, / Thousands more appear in wait. / A bearded man with stovepipe hat / Steps forward saying, “Lets sit, lets chat.” They settle down in seats of clouds, / A man named Martin shouts out proud, / “I have a dream!” and once he did / The Newcomer said, “Your dream still lives.” Groups of soldiers in blue and gray / Others in khaki, and green then say / “We’re from Bull Run, Yorktown, the Maine” / The Newcomer said, “You died not in vain.” From a man on sticks one could hear / “The only thing we have to fear. / The Newcomer said, “We know the rest, / trust us sir, we’ve passed that test.” “Courage doesn’t hide in caves / You can’t bury freedom, in a grave,” / The Newcomers had heard this voice before / A distinct Yankees twang from Hyannisport shores. A silence fell within the mist / Somehow the Newcomer knew that this / Meant time had come for her to say / What was in the hearts of the five thousand plus that day. “Back on Earth, we wrote reports, / Watched our children play in sports / Worked our gardens, sang our songs / Went to church and clipped coupons / We smiled, we laughed, we cried, we fought / Unlike you, great we’re not” The tall man in the stovepipe hat / Stood and said, “Don’t talk like that! / Look at your country, look and see / You died for freedom, just like me” Then, before them all appeared a scene / Of rubbled streets and twisted beams / Death, destruction, smoke and dust / And people working just ‘cause they must Hauling ash, lifting stones, / Knee deep in hell, but not alone / “Look! Blackman, Whiteman, Brownman, Yellowman / Side by side helping their fellow man!” / So said Martin, as he watched the scene / “Even from nightmares, can be born a dream.” Down below three firemen raised / The colors high into ashen haze / The soldiers above had seen it before / On Iwo Jima back in ‘44 The man on sticks studied everything closely / Then shared his perceptions on what he saw mostly / “I see pain, I see 20 tears, / I see sorrow – but I don’t see fear.” “You left behind husbands and wives / Daughters and sons and so many lives / are suffering now because of this wrong / But look very closely. You’re not really gone. All of those people, even those who’ve never met you / All of their lives, they’ll never forget you / Don’t you see what has happened? / Don’t you see what you’ve done? / You’ve brought them together as one.” With that the man in the stovepipe hat said / “Take my hand,” and from there he led / five thousand plus heroes, Newcomers to heaven / On this day, two thousand one, nine eleven. Life goes on, down by the river. Folks are peacefully mingling about the World Trade Center complex. I imagine this must have been just like this on Sept. 10th, 2001. Oddly enough, if you look really close at the left side of this image, (at the second set of palm tree trunks inside the building), does it not appear as if one of the towers is kicking out a white cloud and above the cloud it appears to be crumbling? Crap, not sure that I can leave this posted now, I just can’t bear watching images of the towers pancaking and coming down …. Taken with Nikon D200 and Nikkor 24-120mm lens. HDR image created from single RAW image using ReDynaMix. / Best viewed in Large for sure! This image is currently on display at the Walls Fine Art gallery in Downtown Norfolk, VA. Price here closely matches gallery price.

As we are nearing the 8th anniversary of 9/11, I wanted to post this shot of Lower Manhattan. I am a bit ashamed to say, that I have not seen the New York City skyline with the World Trade Center Towers. I can only imagine how magnificent it must have looked. We shall never forget!

Of those we lost… This work possibly has more significance than any other image I’ve ever created.. I completed and originally posted it on another website back on September 11th 2006. 5 years after the horrific 9/11 attacks in which 2,976 innocent victims lost their lives. Even in 2009, deaths are still being directly attributed to 9/11. All profits from sales of this card will be donated to Families of September 11 One by Creed Affirmative may be justified / Take from one give to another / The goal is to be unified / Take my hand be my brother / The payment silenced the masses / Sanctified by oppression / Unity took a backseat / Sliding further into regression Society blind by color / Why hold down one to raise another / Discrimination now on both sides / Seeds of hate blossom further / The world is heading for mutiny / When all we want is unity / We may rise and fall, but in the end / We meet our fate together One, oh one, / The only way is one / I feel angry I feel helpless / Want to change the world / I feel violent I feel alone / Don’t try and change my mind Completely worked and produced in Bryce 5 © 2009 Ross Spencer.
