Thanks to my darling friend Caitlin for being my model
Another collaboration with my Mom. We did this for a rave flyer in 2004.
Ian Rilen was a legendary Sydney rock and roller and a member of bands such as Rose Tattoo, X and Sardine V. He died earlier this year and is much missed for his wild and wonderful ways. I found this candid back stage shot of him and his then wife Stephanie preparing to go onstage at the Trade Union Club in Sydney’s Surry Hills way way back in the early 80’s. They were in Sardine V at that time and when I look at this shot now the eighties rush back. Oh my misspent youth. :) So Vale Ian Rilen, I so hope things are rocking were ever you are. This shot is for you.

”...7, 8 gonna stay up late, 9 ,10 never sleep again.” This was the piece I did for my banner on display at the grad exhibition. Concept, styling, photography, post-production digital painting all by me, model is me.
One from the same shoot I did for 9, 10 never sleep again. Have used it as part of self promo stuff and called it; ‘Like Valentino with a hand grenade’ (Skid Row lyrics) because I have always felt that that line has summed me up pretty well, as a designer as well as my personal style. :D
Here we do a unique re-working of England’s Spain ‘82 World Cup mascot…. ‘Bulldog Bobby’. / Resplendent in 80’s Casual attire.

The poster edition of the original vector drawn photographic print series I made earlier this year. All VHS covers were hand drawn from original images (it took ages). The rap (Abridged): / Do you remember when your VCR broke and you decided not to get another because they were sort of old technology? DVD was replacing VHS and you could probably buy the shows you wanted as season sets on DVD soon. Have they released those shows yet? Maybe you started watching different stuff because they didn’t release them? I don’t know, but many films aren’t being replaced on DVD at my local video shop when the VHS copy dies … I can’t find Pee-Wee’s Big Adventure in any DVD rental place… and find me The Last Star Fighter while you’re looking. I loved that movie! Things look right on VHS, The Dark Crystal, Star Wars, Alien, Thomas the Tank Engine, Sooty, all better on tape, darker, warmer, grainier. We’ve lost something here, it’s changed, it ain’t cool. detail sample: /
I was back up at the Bunkyou Civic Centre yesterday, this time with one of my students. The sunset was extraordinary. It was impossible to control the lens-flare as I was shooting straight into the sun for this shot. Five-shot bracketed HDR with very little done to the colour. This is pretty much, apart from a bit of a shift in the tonal contrast, what the scene looked like through the lens. Nikon D300 / Nikkor 80-200mm f/2.8 ED / 5-frame bracketed burst merged in Photomatix 2.5.4
My side gig as an archaeologist is often tedious work. Sometimes though, it is truly rewarding. Like today, my team was on a dig and we came across this fossilized ‘cassette tape’ from the ‘eighties era’. After some fine brushwork by my counterpart Hans and carbon dating in the lab we dated it to the ‘New Wave Era’ and as best as we can decipher it is from a person or group named Jane Siberry. / Nearby we unearthed a pair of ‘ankle warmers’ and a ‘mesh-back hat’ but soon realized they were frauds made in 2003.
