Okay. Time to wrap this project up. Enough of the past. One to go after this one. -Etching from the early 80’s
CONCEPT / To capture the concept of infinite future chaos in relation to the infinite future chaos that is approaching the planet and mankind. There is no greater issue facing the planet than global warming, and as I believe; it’s not about sitting back and waiting for the estimated 50 years until we feel the impact until we try and fight back, but about creating radical change NOW. I believe it is within the capabilities of artists around the globe to generate mass political, social and environmental change. Artists have played a major role in the past, with feminism and we can do it again. Realistically a green bag here and there will NOT end the treat of global warming; life-altering changes will be needed to maintain life on earth (as scientific research has estimated). What is stopping us then? Conspicuous compassion, cynicism and the inability to completely accept personal responsibility among other things. Of coarse politics has been a major hold-back for Australia, in particular, but we are a democracy and are political status is basically a reflection of the state of society, as how many people really are carbon neutral? I don’t claim to have all the answers but what I can do is just make my small contribution of an artistic statement on global warming. DESIGN / I have altered one of my past collages and a digital photo of Christmas lights taken on a slow exposure, meshed them together and pushed the boundaries of the effects available on Photoshop to come up with this piece. It is completely imperfect, with a whole mess of techniques, texture and saturated colour. This is in hope of creating a link between the past and the future. The past being symbolised by the 80’s nu-rave techni-colour period, when carbon usage sky-rocketed with the growth of technology and the invention of the computer. The future is symbolised by the lines in the sky, representing future progression and where it may take us. / INSPIRATION Global warming activists Joyful fearless experimentation on Photoshop A worthy challenge A fantastic competition to enter The style and music of M.I.A. Charcoal on paper. Apologies for glare on the drawing…..my photography skills leave a lot to be desired. I came across this photo of myself recently while spring cleaning. It was taken in the foyer of the Orchard Hotel in Singapore when I was 22. I was on my first overseas holiday and had fallen in love with the bustling, cosmopolitan atmosphere of Singapore and was doing my best to look Singaporean! I think I succeeded, because American tourists kept stopping me in the streets to have their photos taken with me!! The poster edition of the original vector drawn photographic print series I made earlier this year. All VHS covers were hand drawn from original images (it took ages). The rap (Abridged): / Do you remember when your VCR broke and you decided not to get another because they were sort of old technology? DVD was replacing VHS and you could probably buy the shows you wanted as season sets on DVD soon. Have they released those shows yet? Maybe you started watching different stuff because they didn’t release them? I don’t know, but many films aren’t being replaced on DVD at my local video shop when the VHS copy dies … I can’t find Pee-Wee’s Big Adventure in any DVD rental place… and find me The Last Star Fighter while you’re looking. I loved that movie! Things look right on VHS, The Dark Crystal, Star Wars, Alien, Thomas the Tank Engine, Sooty, all better on tape, darker, warmer, grainier. We’ve lost something here, it’s changed, it ain’t cool. detail sample: /
