Dare to wear red in a black and white world. Although the Louisville Cardinals is the home town college basketball team in Louisville, Kentucky USA, people are so rabid insane about University of Kentucky (located in Lexington Kentucky USA) that anyone wearing the Cardinal red colors (in stead of Wildcat blue) always get a second look. They say that in Kentucky, University of Kentucky Wildcats isn’t just about basketball, it’s a religion. / MCN:C27-LA6O-1752 SPECIAL EDITION PRINTS CLICK HERE The red penguins along the building are a marketing tactic for the art gallery housed in the building. © 2008 All Rights Reserved

I have learnt sometime in the past, that due to the fact that waves aren’t moving at the exact same speed, every seventh of them is double and hence much more powerful. While I was panning this shot, one of these more powerful waves rolled in, and washed a couple of meters up where I was standing bent down with my camera low. In situations like this you must think fast, and though the water is freezing cold I guess my curiosity for having an interesting shot made me choose to ignore it. / Naturally I got wet feet. But I’m getting used to it, it happens quite often. Hope it’s worth it. Aperture priority programme / Spot metering / 1/100 sec. / f/4.5 / ISO 100 RAW capture, processed in Camera RAW and PS Elements. Beach

Ol Mose is another of those shots which took time to develop. For several weeks, on my way to Central Park in NYC I would pass him in his ‘Norske’ regalia that he used for pan-handling. He would be dressed with helmut, spear, and the works. Finally this one time I came by and he was taking a ‘break’ without his helmut, etc.. I took advantage of the morning light and open shade provided by the buildings and this is the shot I was finally satisfied with. The camera was the Hasselblad 500C w/250mm Tele with a No.8 yellow filter attached. The camera settings were f5.6 1/250th sec using Kodak's Tri-x film and given normal development in Kodak's D76 (1:1) 75 degrees.
City lights with a twist and a moon.. I held my lens open for 2 seconds while I moved my camera quickly past a neon sign. I then mirrored the image and put the moon and other light blurs in. The orange and yellow light streaks are straight from my camera, no editing.
its a watercolor and its about the other sense and the 3rd eye of seeing, in which we see, the MIND…......its what you put into your minds eye that is the most important in life…....your Minds eye is allowed to see what your secondary eyes…......allow it to see, and it goes into your mind, and its either unto Life or its unto death…......LIGHT or darkness….....and then which one you choose of th ese two…......go directly into the Heart area…......and what ever was allowed into the Minds Eye…....light or darkness….......will paint your Heart…......White or Black or light or dark, doesnt matter what words i just used they are colors to me. The light representing….LIFE the Black and the darkness…is death, the absence of Light….....is darkness…......Its up to you what you allow into your 3rd eye…....it will either make you or break you…..its back to your choices again.Hope this helps some to understand….something about their minds….?? Like a Computer garbage in garbage out…..what ever you allow into the 3rd eye…......will bring to you life or death…....God said protect your heart(with all dilligence)—> for out of it (the heart) flows the issues and forces of LIFE….(life—> cant flow out of a dead heart a dark heart a black heart…...absence of LIGHT…who is the LIGHT? THe Word of God….....JESUS CHRIST is the LIFE and the LIGHT of the WORLD. If you keep your beautiful plants in the dark and dont water them…...what happens? THEY DIE…..even if you watered them and no light they will still DIE!

This image is created specially for the Eerie Lighting group which has featured my Evil Eyes three times already, including twice in succession recently. I had not submitted to the group lately because I don’t really have many eerie images. So I did a little experiment with my 7th month Opera. It was simple. Just darken the image dramatically, adjusting the levels slider in Photoshop to about 35 percent and lo… the opera actress looks definitely evil! A bit of color balancing after that, to reduce the intensity of the image, completes the job. So this is also for the Experimental group which, again, I had not been submitting much lately. —- On further thought…. After uploading, I decided to turn the image to black and white. Now it is even more evil and eerie!
I wanted to do an image that symbolizes the Victorian bushfires that started on Saturday the 7th of February 2009, but I didn’t want this image to be sad (although we all know how devastating it has been), I wanted this image to be about the loss, the lives saved, how Australians came together and the growth to come. The Bird symbolizes all the lives that were saved, but this bird has no nest, so it also symbolizes all the homes that were lost and the nothingness some of these people now feel. The Birds claw clinging onto the tree branch is there to symbolize the fire fighters thoughts of hanging in there, and putting all these fires out. The Heart is there to symbolize all the heart ache and love, which us Australians have felt and will never forget. The Flower is there to symbolize all the help, support, donations and everything that us Australians have given to those affected, just to let them know that they have got support, and us Aussies are all here to help. The Music symbols are there to symbolize (all the lives lost) all the spirits flying up into the sky. The Leafs symbolize the growth to come, with rebuilding these affected communities. And I did not want an actual image of a fire in my design, so the swirls of the bird’s tail are there to symbolize the raging fire that affected so many. Any Money made from these images and designs I will be donating to the Victorian Bushfire Appeal.

Yarra Valley Fires, Victoria, 7th Feb 2009. One of the many vinyards, farms, buildings and houses burning from Yarra Glen to Healesville. Hundreds of spot fires were ignited from falling embers eminating from larger fires 15km away at KInglake, Strathewen and St Andrews. Fast moving grass fires in the Yarra Valley engulfed any buildings in their path. © Ern Mainka

A photograph I wanted to take for a long time.
This shot was taken somewhere near Jamaica in the Caribbean this last October as we floated along. I think the Captain must have been taking a rest. I noticed the beautiful multi-colors in the clouds and had to get my camera. When I took the shot I also found a rainbow effect in the clouds up near the top of the photo that was just amazing. There is nothing like floating along in paradise to make you appreciate Gods handi-work. Taken with my Canon Rebel XSi
I took this image in the driveway of a friends property in West Gippsland on 17 March.

August 2008 is the Chinese 7th month, the Festival of the Hungry Ghost, when the gates of hell are supposed to be open for the spirits to roam the earth. During this month, Chinese opera as well as modern ‘song and dance” variety shows are staged to entertain both the living and the dead. But while the variety shows, called getai (meaning song stage) might attract hundreds or thousands of viewers, traditional operas are often sleepy affairs with only a handful of old folks watching. There was an opera near my house tonight, 12 August, and I went down with my camera. It was a sleepy, lack lustre show indeed. The actresses weren’t pretty, the actors weren’t handsome or macho. I was feeling bored when suddenly there came one dramatic scene where this person’s head was supposed to be chopped off! I took three successive shots. This was the most dramatic. __
