I had a perception that the very strong winds could add to a moody image by creating leading lines on the river surface with a longer exposure. As always – click image for a better view / / A chilly morning on the Mt William range sees cloud and mist plummet off the ridgeline as the colder air sinks into the shadows of the range. Meanwhile the rising sun warms the rockfaces and slopes to the west, forcing the cold damp air to warm, rise and dry – thus lifting and dissapating the ‘downstream flow’ of this ‘waterfall of clouds’. / This ongoing spectacle continued for several hours and was a real highlight to watch and experience ! / / / / Fuji G617 – no cropping,no stitching. A bit different from my more nature and environment based subject that I normally upload…But this is yet another composition that I had wanted to capture for a long time but couldn’t think of a good way to do it. The run of foggy mornings in the last week made me curious to explore it in these conditions.I like the result, I feel it has a smooth yet coldness emotion… / Fuji G617 – Velvia 100F. / ©T.Middleton2008 —-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—- / / see more of my TRUE panoramic photography by clicking on the image below / / -

Located in the outback Qld I found myself down within this gorge…After a hot walk down into the gorge proper I was rewarded with a lovely calm pool sprawling along the sandstone wall. Knowing that the gorge walls would shadow this composition well before sunset I sat, listened, smelt and tasted my surrounds. Then in the final moments as the shadows encroached I took this photograph. I recently had the priviledge of travelling through central Australia. I scouted out this composition the day before taking this shot. With my planned return the following day and the show exceeded all expectations in a display of desert light and beauty.Glowing in the twilight, a lone ghost gum stands starkly and majestically. From the high plains to the deserts – the Eucalyptus is botanically iconic to Australia. With over 700 species ranging from stunted shrubs in the arid regions to the tallest flowering plant on the planet, their diversity is as grand as their stature. Most species are not frost or cold tolerant (temps down to -5C) though there is one species that lives in the alps of the mainland affectionately known as the ’snow gum’. (Eucalyptus pauciflora ). Whilst three other cold tolerant species exist in the highlands of central Tasmania. Growing as woodlands or open woodlands from 1300m-1800m ASL in Tasmania,Victoria and New South Wales where they form the altitudinal limit of the tree line. The ’snow gum’ can become a gnarled old warrior as it eeks out an existance in poor soil with short growing seasons in harsh climates. Sometimes shedding bark revealing bright green, yellow or even orange-red under bark. It certainly makes for a brilliant dash of colour particularly in the snow. When in these alpine regions I often find it hard not to get ‘lost’ in their beauty and character and always find myself searching for those special individuals. Specimans with so much character that they speak for themselves. Island Arch is located along the Great Ocean Road, Victoria Australia. While staying in the area I took the opportunity to take a photograph of this popular tourist attraction. I visited this location on the previous evening to check out a suitable composition and the best direction for lighting. To capture the image I arrived early in the morning and set up before the sunrise and waited for the light.
