One of my favorite cars. Absolute classic! Processed from a number of images. The Mustang and city background were taken in Brick Lane, London, while the landscape was taken in Independence, Kansas, and the Route 66 was taken, well, along Route 66!

Poets Cove, Pender Island (Gulf Islands), Canada / March, 2008 Taken during a beautiful weekend away at Poets Cove, Pender Island – part of the Gulf Islands just a hop, skip and a boat plane away from Vancouver… well there is an interesting story attached to that hop, skip and boat plane ride… another time! A perfect time had at a perfect location… one I would recommend to anyone.

Storms and lightning rolling down Route 66.

My very first job was pumping gas for a small Mobil Oil Station on a country highway similar to the picture I’ve created here. I worked nights enjoying the big sky, bright stars and loved the Mobil oil flying horse. Various nocturnal creatures would stop by to say hello and sniff around. My customers were mostly local farmers and country people, I knew everybody on a first name basis and never got robbed. I remember at the time gasoline was twenty five cents a gallon. / It seems we now face the end of the cheap-fossil-fuel era. It is no exaggeration to state that reliable supplies of cheap oil and natural gas underlie everything we identify as the necessities of modern life - not to mention all of its comforts and luxuries: central heating, air conditioning, cars, airplanes, electric lights, inexpensive clothing, recorded music, movies, hip-replacement surgery, national defense - you name it.

Basket weaves, no not at all but the roof of The Round Barn, located in Arcadia, Oklahoma on old Route 66. Perhaps this is most photographed barn in Oklahoma. It is a beautiful barn these days after being refurbished. I remember passing this barn years ago, and it always stood out, even in its dilapidated state. Many round barns were built across the United States because they had discovered that it required less wood and stone than the usual rectangular barns, and was less costly. The roofs of a round barn are supported by one circular wall, and no columns are need. There is more room for livestock and hay. The loft of the barns have an opening in the center which allows for hay to be dropped into the feeding area below. Midwesterners also learned that high winds and even tornadoes that would pulverize an ordinary barn, and often would glance off a round barn. The original barn ROUND BARN, in Arcadia, Oklahoma, was built by William Harrison Odor (Big Bill Odor) in 1898, it is written that the locals scoffed at the idea of a round barn, but Odor soaked green lumber in water, and then shaped the rafters to form the exact curve of the roof. The lumber Odor used was Burr Oak, which he soaked the wood for weeks in the closest river in order to bend the boards to form the circular frame of the barn. When it was completed, he used the lower level to store his hay and shelter cattle and mules, while the upper level was used for barn dances and social gatherings.

First commissioned in 1926, Route 66 was the first highway to link Chicago with Los Angeles. By the 1930’s is was THE way west. John Steinbeck penned it “the mother road” in his work, Grapes of Wrath. This shot was taken somewhere between Kingman and Oatman, AZ. My art with 1000+ views
