I can still remember my very first camera that my parents had given to me when I was about 8 years old. I took that camera everywhere and snapped shots of anything and everything, however it wasn’t until much later in life that I was really bitten by the photography bug. I was planning a big move to the Canadian Rockies and thought now is the perfect time to buy my new camera gear for shooting wildlife. I bought all the equipment I needed that would put me up close with all the wildlife that the mountains had to offer. So off I went chasing Bears, Bighorn sheep, Moose, Elk and Wolves… pretty much any critter I could capture with my lens. It was a fascinating and thrilling experience. Then fate brought to me a girl and she would change my life forever… Newfoundland is where I now call home, with my beautiful wife and baby son. This province is a photographer’s paradise. The scenes change from day to day and the opportunities for capturing them are endless. With my camera in tow I now begin my journey through Newfoundland, photographing and capturing her raw and rugged beauty to share with the world. I hope you enjoy the photographs presented here. The rugged and treacherous coastlines give way only to the unforgiving North Atlantic Ocean. It is a coastline marked with lighthouses that act as ever watching sentinels to welcome weary travellers home. It is a land of beautiful & quaint coastal towns, villages and cities. Newfoundland is a land visited by frozen giants from the North that create a sense of awe when seen by human eyes as they float down what is known as “Iceberg alley”. It is a land visited by massive whales during the summer that attract multitudes to the shorelines. It is a land rich in history and folklore and it is a land inhabited by a people who will welcome you with open arms. It is a land you need to visit… Newfoundland… In Living Color, captures the raw and rugged beauty of a landscape still yet untouched and marred by man’s corrupt hand. It is a tribute to a true Eden and its people that dwell there. / / / Visit my website On The Rock Photography / / SOME OF MY FAVS / click on the image to link to that image / / / / / / / / / / / / / / / / / / / / /

  • The Malakoff Diggins area in Yuba County is often a moonscape of toxic horrors. This is the biggest and most visible eco-disaster in the park: a man-made pond created by digging into hillsides with high-powered streams of water, actual ‘water cannon’ that eroded away entire mountains in minutes and made it possible to search for gold in the tailings. That accounts for this unnatural landscape the earth abhors enough to try to hide with trees far enough from this poisonous stew to survive not to turn into some new form of life. The sign marking this location is still partially visible in the trees and I posted it as just a ‘set-up’ picture for this colourful mess. I’m not sure what would happen to a human body if submerged in this concoction but the odds are strong that it wouldn’t be pretty. BTW, those who know I’m colourblind will be pleased to know this photograph was simply enlarged for Red Bubble standards and otherwise left completely ‘as is’. In other words, the colour of this water is as accurate as the colours of the trees and the sky. Ugghhh. / _________ / For those of you unfamiliar with the television game show Jeopardy in America, this is an extremely popular trivia game for people with far too much time on their hands and way too much brain power available to get them into trouble. There are categories for sets of questions and the host, Alex, is asked by each contestant what category of questions to call an answer from: this show makes you ask the question when Alex gives you the answer.

Did you know that every day over 5000 people walk through the doors of The Rialto Towers? / The Rialto Towers by Paul Villani – who is also the mastermind behind this idea. GO PAUL! Wouldn’t it be really cool if you could put your art in front of those 5000+ people every day for 2 weeks? That’s 5000 business people, tourists, people redecorating their homes, people with a 30 minute lunch break and nothing but blank walls to look at. And wouldn’t it be even cooler if that work was for sale and you could make money out of it? Well if you are in Melbourne or Victoria now you can. make with the clicky clicky / Fog 2 by James Price – who is not the mastermind behind this idea but is still very nice This crazy cool idea wsa thunk up by Paul with the help of his side kicks and co-conspirators Mark and Jo

Seems like just a few days ago I was stunned (and I mean that) to see that I’d had 4000 views. This morning I woke up feeling a little droopy after a weekend of wrestling with recalcitrant fractals and trying to figure out how to draw a human-looking face, and was absolutely freaked out to see 5025 views. Wow….that’s pretty amazing. I spent a couple of minutes preening - lol - and then the realization that each step up in the number of views has left me with a new sense of responsiblilty: to improve, to explore, to do only the best that I can. I didn’t feel any of that when I joined RedBubble. I was just uploading cool stuff I made, and hoping that I could make a little money. But now everything’s different, because when people start looking at what we do, it’s like a contract for quality, you know? For pulling back the curtain and showing the truth—ugly and beautiful. For learning and honing skills. And what do we receive, in return? For me, now, it’s not only the number of views, or even the realization that I may have made a difference in someone’s day, but also the joy of creating and growing. A contract like that is a blessing, I think. I take it seriously now, and the feeling is exquisite. One last thing: I know that most of the people who are looking are fellow-RedBubblers. You are my benchmark and I aspire to meet your high standards. Thank you for being there, for being who you are, and for doing what you do!!

  • Spring Cleaning & Over 5000 Views

Well it happened over two and a half weeks ago, I hit the magic 5000 views. But I’ve gotten so far behind on my redbubble activity I feel bad. I would like to thank everyone for your wonderful support here on redbubble. You have made me feel real good, by leaving so many wonderful comments. So two weeks ago I dropped my iPhone and shattered the screen. It will cost $250 to get it fixed. So I went out and bought a new phone for $150 instead. There are some things I really miss about the iPhone, but I have to say the new phone is easier to text with. So this is where I’ve been for the last couple of weeks. I had to backup and reload my computer. That was the only way I could get the new phone to work with Vista 64. Since I have 8 Gigs of ram this is my OS of choice. Well I’m almost done reloading all the programs so it’s time to get caught up. 3 weeks ago we went to Los Angeles for my daughters National Cheerleading competition. They took 2nd place and did very well as a team. The team that finished first should have been in a different category, but that a whole other story. While there we went to Hollywood and I got my 6th tattoo. I found what I’ve been looking for over one year now. Okay for everyone on my watchlist it is too difficult to get caught up so I will just be commenting on your current work. I’m real sorry for missing so much but there are other things going on as well. I wish I could share them with you but they are very personal. I just can’t share them at this point. I’ll just say they involve mental health and we’ll leave it at that. I would also like to thank my wonderful wife for being so supportive and patient with me as sometimes I’m not myself. I would also like to thank all the friends I’ve made here on redbubble, you guys and gals rock. So today I decided to do some spring cleaning on redbubble. Before my spring cleaning I had over 5700 views and over 8 pages of work. Now I’m just at over 5000 views and just over 6 pages of work. This should help the people who want to view my work. Now on to the lens saving fund. As of right now I’m about halfway to my 90mm macro lens. At this pace I should be getting it just after my birthday at the end of July. I can’t wait this is something I’ve wanted since I got my DSLR. If you read this entire entry thank you very much. I just wanted you all to know I miss you all and I’ll soon be posting again. I will also be taking pictures again real soon but for this moment I’m just glad to have all of you as my friends. One more thing. Nancy (CoolioDudette) has a job interview on Monday. If you could say a prayer for us that this would be the perfect fit for her and the company who is interviewing her. She has been out of work since early December and this would really help us out very much. Thank you and blessings to all. / Troy
