Just one sheet makes a big difference; / One sheet that can make over 2000 cranes. / Each crane a step closer to a better world; / Each piece a step closer to peace. Each square in the grid paper is 5×5mm; and to be exact, there were 2028 full squares in the paper When I was in grade 5 our teacher read “Sadako and the Thousand Paper Cranes” to our class. Sadako Sasaki was infected with leukemia. She spent her days folding cranes and making wishes upon them; wishing for her health and for a more peaceful world (the quote above is my writing inspired by the story of the thousand paper cranes). I had difficulty photographing this; and am not fully satisfied with the end result, but I suppose this is the best I can do with my camera (I’m satisfied with the origami though!) I hope everyone likes the idea anyhow. For me it’s always more about the origami than the photography skills. A Painting by : Shree & Ami(my wife) / Wonderful Words by : Sally Omar Well this is a moment of a poor family waiting desperately together for their father who has still not returned after whole days work, where one kid is elder sister and standing behind another is younger son waiting and being impatient about their fathers uncertain returning issue back to their house. I specifically wanted to show their love, bond, respect, intimacy, curiocity, closeness, affection, feeling of insecurity, fear and a sense of worriedness, impatience and all sorts of wieard thoughts going on specially in the mind of the mother who desperately wants her husband to return back to home soon as its already too late and as both the children are hungry along with her, all of them waiting for their dad to acompany them at whatever food they have left with. Being mother of two little kids she cannot cry or show her sense of worry infront of kids but still she is infact so upset, so tensed and so curious for finding the reasons about not returning back of her husband till so late which she reflects throught her eyes and facial expressions along with managing her kids by giving them assurance that he will comeback soon. My wife Ami helped me a lot specially for bringing those waiting expressions on the face for which i will always be grateful to her unmatched artistic skills. / All the artwork is given a sepia tone with charcoal to show the feel of my theme desperate – await, which i think goes well with the moment of impatience…enjoy. And lastly a special thanks to Sally who did a marvellous job within no time giving a touch of liveliness to these waiting family with her wonderful words. My origami calendar I folded the mother duck out of trace paper around the time I saw ducklings on the way to work; can read about that here. I can’t remember how big the paper was; I believe 13×13mm. The two little ducklings in the centre were folded from 6×6mm pieces of trace paper while the little one at the back was folded from a 5×5mm piece of trace paper. I know mother duck is just being the 4cm mark, but the duckling at the back is infront of the 1cm mark, hence the duck family is a 3cm spread ^ _ ^ New version added August 21, 2008 / This work has been featured in: / Ebony and Ivory / Numbers One to a Trillion / Waterfowl / Little Things To Make You Smile Works by Category Origami/Ori-plastic / Drawings,Paintings and Graphics / Flowers, Trees and Plants / Water and Waterscapes / Scenery / Light, Shadow, and Reflections / Living Creatures / Human Portrait / Japanfluence / Canada / Still Life More sample origami:
After too many millennia without Her, She is finally rising into our consciousness again… I borrowed this wonderful image from Mark Peterson and added a photo and an Apophysis layer to it. If you like what you see here please go and check out the rest of his great work.
In 2003 my wife, her sister, her friend and I flew to Paris. I was so excited because I had gotten a small taste of France in the ‘70s when I was stationed in Germany and had been dieing to get back. Visually a photographer’s dream shoot location. We were lost as soon as we stepped off the plane. My wife claimed she took 4 semesters of French and passed, yet when spoked to in French and I looked at her she would shrug her shoulders. So none of us spoke French. But we managed. We walked 90% of the time and I carried a back pack with a Nikon N-90s, Nikon 8008s, 20,35,50,135,180, and 500 MM lenses, tons of film, flash, tripod and my trusty Holga. (By the way, I was out of work 4 weeks recovering from a neck injury from carrying this backpack.) I had semi-planned ahead, knowing we were going to walk, for the series “A Walk Through Paris”. As we walked, I shot, crossed items off my list and we walked some more. This series was shot with a Holga camera, held together with a lot of black tape. Processed, scanned and then tinted with my custom sepia like action in Adobe Photoshop.

At Frankston Savers, you can fill an entire plastic bag full of stuffed toys for $2.99. I let everyone pick a new little friend from it and placed the rest on my co-workers computers. How irritating for them. Still life series
