3 miles north of the English seaside town, Whitby, is the small village of Sandsend. The beach is littered with these weathered groynes. If you catch them at the right time you can have great fun with a long expsoure and receeding tide.
Every Easter holidays my family go camping at the BIG4 caravan park in Pambula. This is handy as I’ve found it’s quite a photogenic location. On the beach there are these huge rock formations that you see here in the photo. Shot: Canon 400D + Canon 10-22 f/3.5 – f/4.5 @ 1/4, 1 (+2), f/16, ISO100 Post-Processing: I manually blended the 2 shots in Adobe Photoshop and used several curves and levels layers for several parts of the photo and then increased the contrast with a curves layer.
A small tree hanging on to the foreshore dunes at Southend, Limestone Coast South Australia. Roots exposed and sand blown away from it’s base it continues to stand against the elements… Never Never Never give up…...!!!! Canon 400D, 18 – 55 lens with Polarising filter. Converted to B&W in Photoshop CS3.

The worn remains of a fish trap fence reaching out into the Coorong near Salt Creek South Australia. Nature is slowly working away at these remnants reducing many of them to small sticks just standing in place. Canon 400D 18-55 CIR Polarising filter and slight curves in Photoshop CS3.
Another from the series of last light shots – across the beautiful river Murray near Mannum South Australia. Three shot panorama stitched in Photoshop CS3. BEST viewed in Large. Canon 400D, CIR Polarising filter – Black and White conversion completed in CS3.
Every Rainbow has a pot of gold at it’s end. As the storm passed the rainbow came out and lined up nicely on this small building left standing in paddocks between Millicent and Kingston in the South East, (Limestone Coast) region of South Australia. Canon 400D 18-55 with CIR Polarising filter.
Trying out an ND 4 plus a CIR polariser in the middle of the day to see what I could get with wave flowing motion. Beachport South Australia, back beach. Only time I could get down there was the middle of the day so will need to go back early or late in the day to try and get one of these right. Canon 400D 18-55, Tripod with ND 4 and CIR Polarising filters. Processed in Photoshop.
A bend in the road between Penola and Millicent, Limestone Coast, South Australia. “A bend in the road is not the end of the road unless you fail to make the turn.” Anon. Canon 400D 18 – 55 lens, converted to B&W in Photoshop CS3.
Going through some old images and found this shot showing pollen dripping down from the centre of the flower. Really liked the colour offsets in this. Was used in an exhibition I shared with Smarti77 sometime ago. Shot with a Canon 400D – 18-55 lens.
Tiny water drop sitting upon a poinsettia leaf. Canon 400D / Canon 100mm macro Lens / Natural Light
Straight out of the camera….no work needed. This was the sight that greeted me as the sun rose this morning over Mount Muirhead near Millicent. Bold powerful reds and oranges that had people pulling over in their cars to watch!!!! Canon 400D Fixed 50 1.8. No filters no changes….
The ladybirds have returned in significant numbers at Mt Burr again. This is a small cluster on dead and dried ferns. (if you look closely you will see them underneath as well) Always a pleasure to watch these little beauties crawling around in their thousands. Canon 400D, 18 – 55 with two stage macro extension tubes and speedlight. I am often asked, “just how thick are these?” Well the photo below is just an example of how thick they settle when they arrive!!!!
Stopped at Nigretta Falls near Hamilton Victoria on our way to Melbourne last week. Nice amount of water passing over the summit at the moment thanks to recent rains. Canon 400D with 17-85 lens. CIR Polariser to help slow the flow rate. No ND filter with me (Damn!) but the overcast day helped.
Going through some old folders this week and found another image from some time ago when walking in areas way off the River Murray main area. This is where salt has taken over old swamp lands. This area has been in this poor condition for a long time and was nothing to do with current water levels. The stormy clouds on the day threw great colours from the salt. Taken between Renmark and Berri in South Australia. Canon 400D with CIR Polariser on 18-55 kit lens.
Late evening shot at Robe South Australia. The remains of the old town slipway disappearing into the ocean. As the sun set the slowly lapping waves created the gentle soft flow. Long exposure image and straight from the camera – no Photoshopping. Canon 400D – 18-55 lens, Manual mode F 25, ISO 100 and 2.2 minutes on tripod.
Canon EOS 400d / Digital Rebel XTi / 50mm f/1.8
Revisiting old folders, a previous visit to the shipwreck of the Pisces Star at Carpenters Rocks – South Australia. Low tide with a stunning cloud filled sky made for some great opportunities to get shots of this wreck exposed on the beach. Canon 400D 18-55 lens with CIR Polariser.
