The Bourke Intermediate High School held a walk-a-thon. In those years (the late sixties) the primary school, although quite separate, was officially, a department of the school. / On a blazing hot, sunny day, there was a walk, 15 mile out of town and 15 back. / I wore a t-shirt which exposed most of my shoulders. Together with this boy ( I believe * ) and a nurse and another man, I walked 15 miles out and 10 miles back. / Then it was 5 p.m.. and time for this ‘madness’ to end. (5 more miles in one hour did not seem achievable for me. The nurse had left us as our pace was too slow.) / The rest of that summer I had the shape of that t-shirt burnt into my shoulders and I was given the Principal’s Award, at the Monday Assembly, (Those which we usually give to the pupils.) for my effort. / The first names were colleagues. The last two were pupils. / POST SCRIPT (13 Oct.07): So good to see that Ross Campbell found this journal item!! It made me look at what I’d written and I realise that I PAID that amount because I’d sponsored these colleagues and pupils. (All females!) / Among my photos, on Redbubble, you’ll see pictures of my favourite place, the rocks and cement blocks, decorated with messages, beside the breakwall, in Nambucca Heads. For a few years there was a message there from the Longs, from Bourke. / I like to think they were the Long sisters, whom I taught.

Just logged in and noticed my “view-ometer” says 40,044 hits (on 194 images since Sept 07) ... Now what other art gallery gives us that kind of exposure – AND provides global access!!! As much as it is wonderful to see a work physically hanging on a wall, we sure are fortunate to have such an active online gallery available! Thank you to all the faithful viewers and commenters, and a huge thank you to Redbubble for providing the opportunity!!!

Once again, thank you all for taking the time to view, comment, favourite and place me on your Watchlists. I am now (currently) at 40,213 views. I joined RB in January 08, and am continually amazed at the encouragement and friendship that has been shown to me. I have been most heartened by the wonderful support, continual encouragement and freely given help and advice I have received from this wonderful group who use RB. Like most of you, I suspect, I struggle at times to keep on top of my ever growing Watchlist. Everyone who is on my Watchlist is there for a reason, namely because I admire your work and of course because it spurns me on to attempt to achieve results as good as yours. If I do not reply directly to your wonderful comments, I hope you will understand. I always try to comment on as much of your wonderful work as I possibly can, but if I miss any of you I will apologise now and assure you that I will try to do better in future. Lately, I have had a fairly hectic social life and I am finding it difficult to keep up. This usually means that when I do comment, you get a fairly curt “Nice” or “Wonderful”. I wish I had the time to elaborate more fully about your work, but please be assured, I only comment on work I like. If I see something I don’t like, then I will not comment (I would never say anything nasty, so I prefer to say nothing at all). You will find that it is rare for me to append “thank you” notes when you are kind enough to comment on my work, but if you are on my Watchlist, then I always make time to view your work. If you are not on my Watchlist, then I will always attempt to visit your work and commenting appropriately. When I get the chance to look at the work of people new to me, I keep finding such treasure and I am soooo tempted to add them to my Watchlist. But I am already struggling to keep up with my current Watchlist, so the compromise is to note that person and periodically visit to see if they have uploaded any new gems for me to drool over. Thank you all, so very much for all your comments and encouragement over the last 6 months. Kind regards, / Tom

Hello to all those on my watchlist and those that are watching me, / Firstly, I just want to apologise for my absence and the lack of action, over the past 24hours or so. The power supply on our computer crashed about 5.00pm AEST yesterday and I had to get a new one installed late today and am now operational again. / Secondly, it was a wonderful surprise and a real joy, to get back on here, this evening and find that I have reached a milestone in 40,000 views. / Thank you, so very much to ALL those that viewed my images and made such wonderful, valuable comments, they are always a joy and encouragement to receive. / I will endevour to catch up on the uploads, that I have missed during the next day or so. / Thank you once again to ALL of you, you are very special to me and it is wonderful and a real Blessing to be amongst such a talented group of artists in an incredibly encouraging community, here on RB, / God Bless, / Phil

Tomorrow I am 40. What does that mean? Not a lot – age, numbers all irrelevant on some levels. But it did beg the question this week : What did I do with my 30’s – and my 20’s? Well my 20’s were the what could be years, times spent dreaming, speculating discovering life. insecurity, arrogance, idealistic notions and high moral ground. Hard knocks, rendering your arse on the ground, having to dust yourself and try another direction, the quest for love and the best friendship time around. My 30’s ( a few hours left yet ;) ) Entered this phase with a toddler and short blonde hair :)... So much crammed in here. Humility, gratitude, the swiftness of time, some loss, some gain, the nuts and bolts of life, young thirty, mid thirty, late thirties, where you begin to see the age / youth divide and it makes you smile and love what youth is. Now nearly 40… I am happy with who I am, I am more afraid yet braver, more aware of my flaws but aiming to be a better person than I was. I am much less tolerant of people with ideals that clash with mine but aim not to judge, my time has become a much more precious resource, my contribution to life and society more closely examined. I am less precious about the items and much more precious about the experiences and people in my life. And I am glad I kept out of the sun. and don’t smoke – I’ll take credit for those :)

Hello again, not even a week has passed since my last journal and I have so many wonderful things to share with all of you. First of all I just reached 40,000 views and this time it took me only 2.5 months to get to the next level (I needed 3.5 months for the previous 10,000). I’m so happy about it I can hug each and every one of you. Secondly I was honored with a featured artist status in Style! Class! Elegance! Excellence! group. Thank you Graham, you made my day and a week for sure. Many of you know Adam Bykowski list called Adam’s Photographer of the Day. I was checking his choice for each day and I couldn’t believe my own eyes when I saw my name for the day 25th. Wow, huge surprise and I’m so thrilled by it. Thank you Adam once again. You made me dance in my red shoes for hours. Last but not least sincere thank you to hosts of the following groups: -The Mysterious Balkans for featuring Gorgeous Santorini: Hawai’i ~ Aloha Na’au for featuring Haleakala Crater: Style! Class! Elegance! Excellence! for featuring From Stillness To Wilderness: and Evening Calm: All About Boating for featuring Lost At Sea: and Boats in Playa del Carmen, Mexico: Extraordinary Fractalius for featuring Fractal Beauties: Love you, Teresa

Just a quickie update, my views have this morning passed 40,000 on 174 pieces of art and my most popular image / Into the shadows has over 2500 views and 127 people have been good enough to add it to their favourites. 40,000 is a massive number, twice the population of the small town I live in. A big thank you to each and every person who has taken time to look at, comment and favourite my work. I have just had a thought…maybe one person has viewed 40,000 times and I have a really persistant stalker… looks over shoulder. Thanks again each and every one of you. Bye for Now Paul

Hi All, I just thought I’d let you all know that I have now crossed the border and become…... / a 40 year old ! Yeah me ! Not sure how it happened but it did. I thought something was up because I’ve been looking at sports cars and thinking they’re really cool and I don’t like modern music ( it’s all bloody noise and I can’t understand the words ). I am now going to grow a long beard, get a stick, yell at teenagers and talk about how great ( and cheaper ) things were “in my day”... LOL ! I may even smoke a pipe and go to a Bon Jovi concert !!!! LOL = )) If you haven’t already please read this
