BEST VIEWED LARGER THis shot was taken from Berrys Bay/ Balls Head Park on the north shore of Sydney taken on Wednesday 28th May 2008 around 5pm. As you can see the clouds herald what is to come, the buildings are lit by pre storm light combined with the last rays of day light. The storm that followed was quite severe with 868 recorded lightning strikes, just have to love the clouds and light. Equipment used Nikon D300 and Nikon 18 – 200mm lens. /

As I awoke this morning, I went outside in search of natures awesome beauty… Sky was overcast and it was trying to sprinkle rain….. The sun was playing peek a boo and even through the clouds, the view was just as gorgeous as any time before…..... It never ceases to amaze me at the beauty we can find if we will just open up our eyes to it…......... May each person that views this have a wonderful day today full of hope, laughter, and love….... This is my first Collaboration with the very talented Rhana Griffin and I’m sure you’ll agree, she has done an amazing job! / I asked if anyone would be interested in doing a Collaboration on my Bowness Cottage shot and if they would ‘Zombify’ it up, as this is the cottage that was used in the final scenes of the Zombie film 28 Days Later So here is the finished product, enjoy!

A Circumhorizon Arc bursts forth in brightness and color, over the Pine Barrens of New Jersey,during late May, 2008. For Circumhorizon Arcs (CHA’s) to be visible, a series of perfect conditions must be met. First there must be plate crystals in the atmosphere, and the quality of these crystals must have gemlike perfection. The atmosphere must be stable enough, have the right moisture content, temperture and water particle size for the crystals to grow just right. The best CHA’s have many large plate crystals. Larger crystal take longer to form. But having perfect plate crystals is not enough. These plate crystals now must align horizontally with each other and the ground below. The crystals need to act like a giant prism. If this was not enough, the Sun must be at least 58 degrees in altitude, and CHA’s peak in brightness when the Sun is at 68 degrees in altitude. So it is only when the Sun is highest in the sky, during the time closest to the Summer Solstice, do we get to see these wonderful Arcs. Circumhorizon Arcs only form in Cirrus Clouds, and not many Cirrus Clouds have Circumhorizon Arcs. Best Viewed Large / Please visit my Atmospheric Optics Gallery / Or visit my website Cometman.com

Some years back I was short listed for a Sculpture commission at the new Green Square Railway station. I didn’t in the end win the commission but I did get to walk up the tunnels before any trains traveled though the station. This is one of the many photo’s I took.

A couple of weeks ago Deborah Bowness put out a call to see if anyone was interested in zombie-fying (yes its a word ;)) her Bowness Cottage image. Deb is a bit of a zombie fan and this is the actual cottage that was used in the final scenes of the zombie film 28 days later. Never one to shy away from a challenge I gave it a go, and Deb and I are both pretty darn stoked at how it turned out!! You can check out the final product here… Bowness Cottage…. 28 Days Later
