  • Luna Park (Sydney) is an amusement park situated on the gorgeous Sydney Harbour, overlooking the Harbour Bridge and the Opera House. Opened in 1935, Luna Park is an iconic part of Sydney for residents and visitors alike. From 1924 – 1932 the Luna Park site was occupied by Harbour Bridge workers. They built two large workshops and a wharf on the site to assist in the Bridge’s construction. Following the conclusion of the construction the New South Wales Government rendered the site to be used as a recreational area. The park was constructed in just over 3 months, following the hard work of 800 structural workers, 70 electricians and 35 artists, among many others! Luna Park, Sydney opened at 8.00pm on 4 October, 1935. The park was an immediate success and the admission charge was abolished after the first year! The park remained open during the war years, however, the lights were “browned out”. Luna Park became a hugely popular stomping ground for Servicemen, both American and Australian. The park closed every winter, providing the opportunity to renovate, repair and add new attractions. Unfortunately, a tragic fire in 1979 in the Ghost train ride caused Luna Park to close down completely. In the years that followed, the park changed hands a number of times, was threatened with demolishment, re-opened and closed until finally in 1990 the Government passed the Luna Park Site Act, which protected the land. A Luna Park Reserve Trust was established and took control of the park in October 1990. Major restoration of the park and all of its buildings commenced in 1992. This shot was taken using a Nikon D300, nikon 18-20mm lens and processed using Photomatix For visitors to Sydney Luna Park can be reached via a regular ferry service from Circular Quay

  • Nijushiho (二十四步) (Japanese: Twenty four steps) is an advanced kata practiced in Shotokan karate at 2nd dan black belt level. / The origin of Nijushiho is unknown, but it is presumed that it originates from one of the Chinese Dragon styles. Alternating explosive and calm sequences lend it a very distinctive rhythm. Some Okinawan practitioners have likened it to the ebb and flow of the ocean crashing on a beach. This explosion and recession of movement is especially evident in the opening movements. This principle, applied throughout the kata, alludes to an understanding of reception of an attack, and suppression of the attacker in the same motion. Like most good karate, it imparts the important principle of defending and responding in one movement.

  • Beauty Of A Thorn This well-known thistle is a true nightmare to all the local farmers. At one point I think there was even a law passed saying that people could be fined if it was found growing unchecked on their property. / It is such an invasive plant that it will take over an entire pasture or field, and farm animals won’t/can’t eat it, and it’s a real problem in the hay. / On the other hand, its a blessing for the many butterflies that migrate through this area, and it provides much-needed food and energy for the pretty little creatures that have such long flights ahead of them, or maybe are just at the end of their life spans. / I have also noticed that hummingbirds love it as well. Being a photographer, I do love its exotic blooms and the many photo opportunities it provides. / The sad but true thing is, the only way to control it is to destroy it completely! It’s amazing that something so beautiful and so useful for the nectar lovers, is also such a thorn in the side for the farmers. / Photo taken along a road side in NW Arkansas, USA. • This is my entry for the T-Shirt Revolution’s 24 Hour Tee Challenge / The Challenge / Brand new t-shirts only please. We’re going to play a little game of chance for this speed tee challenge. Head over to your bookshelf. Select any book that catches your eye and open it. Any page will do. Find a paragrah. This paragraph will be your topic. We want your t-shirt design to visually represent the content of this paragraph, whatever it may be … Please include the paragraph in your description. You have 24 hours. My paragraph came from page 31 of The Book with No Name by Anonymous. ... and here it is: After dragging the bodies of Rusty, Spider and Studley out to the backyard and dumping them where no one would easily find them, the two men sat and drank whisky for the next couple of hours. / Marcus did most of the talking. He was doing his best tour guide impression, providing Jefe with the lowdown on the best places to go for a good time…

  • My entry for the 24hr Challenge: 1 Paragraph over at A Tshirt Revolution. I went to bookcase and grabbed the old beaten n battered copy of Skeleton Crew, a collection of Stephen King’s short stories. Upon opening i found myself reading an old favourite …..... The Raft. Here’s the paragraph … / “Randy was halfway to the raft when he saw the black patch on the water. It was beyond the raft and to the left of it, more out toward the middle of the lake. Five minutes later the light would have failed too much for him to tell it was anything more than a shadow … if he had seen it at all. Oil slick? he thought, still pulling hard through the water, faintly aware of the girls splashing behind him. But what would an oil slick be doing on an October deserted lake? Anybody who’s read it (or seen the short movie in Creepshow 2) will know this ain’t no oil slick. Ink pen sketch on some halftone action /

  • My first real attempt at some star trails, I thought the South Celestial Pole would be a bit further up in the image but it ended up being just out but I think I still like this one. This tree is the same tree in my image Speed of Light. This technique will definitely require some more practice, the tree is lit from car headlights coming off Lysterfield Road in the distance. Borrowed mum’s new/old Canon 5D for this one with a 24-70mm f2.8 L series attached. / Settings Canon 5D, 24-70mm f2.8 L USM. • I’ve been looking for some Amanita muscaria without success but I thought I might just put up a few other “guys” I found while looking. These tiny guys were growing out of a recently fallen old stag (dead tree). • Life goes on, down by the river. Folks are peacefully mingling about the World Trade Center complex. I imagine this must have been just like this on Sept. 10th, 2001. Oddly enough, if you look really close at the left side of this image, (at the second set of palm tree trunks inside the building), does it not appear as if one of the towers is kicking out a white cloud and above the cloud it appears to be crumbling? Crap, not sure that I can leave this posted now, I just can’t bear watching images of the towers pancaking and coming down …. Taken with Nikon D200 and Nikkor 24-120mm lens. HDR image created from single RAW image using ReDynaMix. / Best viewed in Large for sure! This image is currently on display at the Walls Fine Art gallery in Downtown Norfolk, VA. Price here closely matches gallery price.
