Since our dawn, man has always looked to the stars to make sense of the chaos that we create. And to me, it only seems fitting that our future should lie beyond our own planet, if we don’t mess it all up first. The main tone underlying this work is that we should look at our history in order to understand our future – and I’ve used the Mayans as a reference to the good and bad things that we have achieved. I’d like to think that this being dominating the artwork could very well be us, in our own creation of what we believe as interstellar beings. Kind of like life imitating art. The dome of his head is actually Mars, a planet many have speculated that could be an older version of our own Earth and a glimpse into our future. Behind the his head, and also tattooed on his brow, is part of the very advanced Mayan long-count calendar, which runs out on the 22nd December 2012 – a date that many historians are looking forward to, especially given today’s fragile climate. Some speculate that it could mark an approximate date to the end of life as we know it. Which ties in with other totally unrelated theories about our oil crisis, global warming, and so on. / In his eyes, he sees a horizon of fire which symbolizes the earth cleansing itself, although we’d see it as mass destruction. This is synonomous with our understanding of the Mayan civilization and how it overpopulated and crumbled under the high demand of such an over-indulgent society. The moon shots are from the recent lunar eclipse. I included this because the moon plays such an important part in our life, and the stabalisation of the planet – it moves away from the Earth at just under 4cm each year. Finally, I’ve used the Mayan Chichen Itza temple at the bottom of the piece as a stairway to the heavens, common with Mayan, Egyptian, and other beliefs.

“As avid stargazers, the ancient Maya were keen to an astrological cycle we call the Precession of the Equinoxes. This is close to a 26,000 year cycle in which Earth transits through each of the 12 signs of the zodiac for about 2152 years each. Each of these astrological ages represents one month of the grand, Cosmic Year. Sumerians, Tibetans, Egyptians, Cherokees, Hopi, and Mayans refer to this same 26,000 year cycle in their mystical belief systems and each have developed calendars based on this great cycle. The Maya messengers, reknowned for their architectural, artistic, mathematical and scientific achievements, left a calling card as a series of super-human sized stone monuments and pyramids with precise calendrical computations. Planted with great intention, these dates were left to ensure that future generations would be alerted to the coming end point of this great 26,000 year cycle. A cycle which corresponds also to a 26,000 year relationship of our Sun orbiting Alcyone, the central star of the 7 Sisters Pleiades constellation. According to the Maya, the “future” which lies beyond this end date is literally “a new world age” – “a new creation.” The 26,000 year cycle of the Homo Sapien’s evolution and development is mirrored by the 260-day cycle of human gestation. Collective humanity is right now maturing into the being we have long been encoded to be. As with any labor, it is not the mother, or the baby, who is in charge – it is the primal process of Birth itself unfolding its own destiny. Thus the December 21, 2012 AD is not the day where all of the sudden a light switch will flip on and everything will change, rather, we are NOW in the process of this transition from one World Age to the next. Here we see Earth in the year 2012, As you can see the water levels have risen beyond the skyscrapers due to polar icecaps melting. The opening of lightgates or the end of the world, maybe the end of the world as we know it and the beginning of a new one . Made in photoshop added detail from a painting and photograph, tweeked with my imagination, a mixed media piece that was the word I was looking for. 2012 2012 is sometimes claimed to be a great year of spiritual transformation or apocalypse. Many interpret the completion of the thirteenth B’ak’tun cycle in the Long Count of the Maya calendar (which occurs on December 21) to mean there will be a major change in world order. The Mayan civilization was and is the most advanced in relation to time-science knowledge. Their main calendar is the most accurate on the planet. It has never erred. They actually have 22 calendars in total, covering the many timing cycles in the Universe and Solar System. In Mayan mythology each Long Count cycle is a world age in which the gods attempt to create pious and subservient creatures. The First Age began with the creation of the Earth, and it had upon it vegetation and living beings. Unfortunately, because they lacked speech, the birds and animals were unable to pay homage to the gods and were destroyed. In the Second and Third Ages the gods created humans of mud and then wood, but these also failed to please and were wiped out. We are currently in the Fourth and Final Age, the age of the modern, fully functional human. Is it possible that these Ages referred to evolutionary change? Many predictions are circulating about the true meaning of this major dimensional shift. Several of the predictions advise that there will be a few differing periods of chaotic events during the run up to 2/12. This, I fear, may be the first. Those that live by greed are the first to be offered the teachings. Will they learn from the current economical chaos they have caused? Not holding my breath. But 2/12 is going to be wonderful as our planet Gaia moves up the spiritual awareness ladder and we all go with her. Do not believe everything you read in the papers. . / . / . . / . /
