I have just found out that my image ‘Carousel’ will be published in Photographer’s Forum Magazine’s ‘Best of Photography 2008’ book. As you can imagine I am thrilled to have been selected. I just want to thank the Redbubble community once again for all your support and inspiration – without you I wouldn’t have come this far. Take care Debxx

  • My exhibition in Sweden 2008 07 19/20
    by Antanas

ABOUT MY EXHIBITION The woks exhibited represent the linkup of two artists, a photographer and a sculptor. Such an attempt to blend two spheres of art is really innovative and a bit unexpected. There had been few who were successful in such an attempt. Both authors, blending their art by the means of the photo art, are the winners. Sculpture, as such, is rather a static art, sometimes “performing” in a specific, sometimes artificial, environment. However, the means of the plastic photography, seemingly, make the sculptures movable, dynamic; they make you feel the sculptures are moving. They become alive, start moving and react both to the environment and the views captured by the photographer. I would like the viewers also note the colour solutions of the photos, aimed at the strengthening of the overall impression of the imagery. The original blend and overlapping of two arts let see the impressive plastic metaphors, giving birth to various associations. CLICK PHOTO IF YOU WANT VIEW / /

I am going to take a moment to toot my own horn, not something I do on a regular basis. I have just received the final pdf proof for a promotional calendar for 2008 that will be distributed at the University of Missouri and throughout the world to faculty, friends, alumni, and students to increase awareness for wild tiger conservation! The calendar features only photography of yours truly throughout, and so in a sense it is like having a solo gallery show! As many conservation saavy individuals might already know, the tiger in the wild is one of the iconic symbols of endangered species worldwide, numerous organizations have been created to focus on increasing awareness on all of the tiger species worldwide and their precipitous decline towards extinction. All tiger species in the wild are endangered, some more severely than others. Several sub-species have already been lost. You can read more about the first of it’s kind “Tigers 4 Tigers” program started at the University of MIssouri by going here MizzouT4T The two images I I have posted in this message are the opening page of the inside of the calendar as well as the back page of the calendar that talks about me personally and my work. I ask that when you have time you visit the T4T page and read about the program, and if you feel so inclined offer a donation to either T4T, or any other conservation effort, globally or locally, because there is always more that needs to be done to preserve the beauty that exists in the world! Thank you all for listening to me, it is truly an honor to have been a part of this worthy project, and it is exactly the type of conservation effort that weds real on the ground work with the beauty of art that can help stem the tide of the rapid decline of magnificent creatures like the tiger in the wild! Chasingsooz commented that my Opera House image could be imagined in a high end glossy magazine… that hasn’t happened… but the image has been selected to be published in the highly acclaimed Photography Anthology. As such… I have been selected as a finalist to win the $6500 prize money up for grabs… with the [O]pera House image being selected for it’s asymmetric composition and light mix used throughout. Every aspect of the publication and design of this leading edition, the Best of 2008 Photography Anthology, reflects the quality craftsmanship that went into the production of this special edition. They make terrific coffee table books and treasured gifts for friends and family!

Howdy all, This Saturday is Drawing Day and I’ve been having a think about a few ways we can show our appreciation for the use of pen, pencil, pastel, ink etc. So here’s an idea. On Saturday, why not pledge to leave at least one comment on an illustration piece and favourite at least one sketch or scribble. Whether it’s a pen and ink portrait, a masterpiece in marker, a quick sketch or some show off who owns one of those wacom tablets – it all counts, so make the effort to hunt down some of the drawing talent and let them know you like their style. If this sounds like hard work then I’ve made it easier for you by putting together a little gallery below of some of my favourites which I’m going to keep adding to over the next few days. Check their favourites and I’m sure you’ll find even more. Alternatively, leave a comment below with your recommendations and we can all join in on the quest to support the illustrating talent on the bubble. Share the love. (Virtually) hug an illustrator on Drawing Day 2008. Nat :) / / / /

  • The Orphan Works Act of 2008 ~ RELEASE

FROM THE ILLUSTRATORS’ PARTNERSHIP The Orphan Works Act of 2008 will be officially released momentarily. The language in the draft confirms our warnings. If this bill passes, you’ll be forced to clear all your secondary licensing rights through at least two government certified databases – or risk orphaning your art. Despite its masquerade as the “last resort” to search for a rights owner, these databases will likely become the only source many users will rely on for finding a rights owner. Reason: it will give users the legal right to infringe any copyright not in the databases. We’re working with our attorney now to prepare opposition letters. We have contracted CapWiz, a service that will allow you to send these letters to Congress with a push of the button. CapWiz will also provide us with “digital stickers” that anyone else – organizations, individual artists, blogs, etc. – can put on their sites that create a direct link to the command center to write their Congressman and Senators to defeat this radical change to U.S. Copyright law Please stay tuned and we’ll tell you in a day or so what you can do to register your opposition. For additional background on Orphan Works, go to the IPA Orphan Works Resource Page for Artists If you wish to be added to our mailing list, email us at: illustratorspartnership@cnymail.com / Place “Add Name” in the subject line, and provide your name and the email address you want used in the message area. For more info here on the Bubble, please check out Helen Bascom’s comprehensive journal entry about it, which includes action that can be taken. I also recommend signing up with Illustrators’ Partnership which is doing a lot to put a stop to this. They also have a lot of great interviews with prominent artists about what all this means.

It seems the RedBubble caboose has been dragged along nicely by the RB inhabitants during March 2008. It’s come to my attention, via a large brown envelope delivered by a male courier dressed in a polka dot dress, that there’s five remarkable statistics being secretly spoken about in RB headquarters. They may, or may not, come as a shock to us all. Stats during March 2008 1. Only 56,893 complaints were submitted by RB members under the hate and vilification speech option. This figure is down substantially from 69,696 due to Collingwood Football Club now being involved in active competition for season 2008. 2. 7345 photos of cats were uploaded, and this represents a substantial increase of 69.69% compared to February. Photos of pussy remain popular at RB. 3. RB headquarters staff have consumed 17 large tins of International Boast coffee, 592 packets of Iced Vo Vos and five parts of Justin French’s anatomy. No surprises there. 4. Only 108,274 sincere comments were made on artists’ work. This is a worrying trend. 5. The pace at which new groups are being added to RedBubble continues to concern members. With view counts being a high priority, RB staff are continually being pressured behind the scenes to surpass the 58,329 groups on Flickr. RB staff are currently working feverishly on bronze medals and animated GIF’s as we speak.
