Taken in January 2005, just south of Perth, Scotland. I looked out the window here late one evening to see a “cloud” of luminous green oriented downwards – “that’s no cloud!” and 5mins later I was a couple of miles away in the middle of nowhere on the road south of Moncrieffe Hill, admiring the pretty greens and reds :)

Bluegirl; she started a revival in my work. I am proud of her. It had been a while (years) since I’d produced anything, anything I was proud of. Working on her was akin to coaxing a fossil from the ground. Where an archaeologist might use a soft brush, my conté smoothed the paper away from her. Revealing her curve – her shape – her mood. Working as I do, on a flat table, walking circles around the work, conversing with it, singing to it (she likes Led Zeppelin); often with my face millimetres from the page, I can say I know her well. Very well. I hope you enjoy her company also.

I wasn’t happy with this, so I have altered it and I am happy now :)) Burne Jones is one of my favourite artists ever. I wouldn’t attempt to do a straight copy of his work but this is one of his paintings done in my own style. Now.. here’s a story to tell the grandkids!! / There was a man living in a New York city apartment with Ming (a 300 pound bengal tiger, an alligator and I can’t remember the third creature). The authorities found out about the animals due to the neighbors complaining about noise and smell. Must have been a VERY surprised police officer when he actually saw the “little kitty”! They had to tranquilize Ming for the trip out of the apartment (they took him through the window) and all the way to “Noah’s Lost Ark Sanctuary”. / He was NOT a very happy camper when he arrived. He hated everybody! And, once he got to Noah’s he had his first “feel” of the outside and grass under his feet. Over the years, he’s calmed down a lot.. but.. isn’t he beautiful!! / All proceeds from any sales will be donated to Noah’s Lost Ark Sanctuary for the care and feeding of the animals. This photograph was taken by Nina Wolf, a good friend who happens to be a pretty good photographer! I have her permission to do this.

She was so thrilled when she saw and and I don’t blame her one bit.. course, Kenny usually does pose quite well. / If it weren’t for places like Noah’s Lost Ark, all the animals would have to be put down because there would be nowhere for them to live. At least with education, we might make a little difference.. even if we save just one animal.. it’s a beginning!! / All proceeds from any sales will be donated to Noah’s Lost Ark Sanctuary for the care and feeding of the animals. Mowgli’s one of those cats that just seems to be able to strike a pose no matter what. I think, out of all the cougars at Noah’s, myself and Nina probably have more of him than any other. / I truly hope that another message comes through.. that these animals DO NOT MAKE GOOD PETS.. that’s why places like Noah’s are in existence. If people would just think before they buy that cute LITTLE cub.. life would be easier on all of us especially the animals. After all.. they didn’t ask to be in the situation they are.. and there are far to many unscrupulous people out there that are in it for the money.. / At least with education, we might make a little difference.. even if we save just one animal.. it’s a beginning!! / All proceeds from any sales will be donated to Noah’s Lost Ark Sanctuary for the care and feeding of the animals. 7.30 pm, August 15th, 2005, the evening which changed my life and damaged my bank balance. / I’d gone to Wheatlands, a wonderful privately owned, but open to the public nature reserve near York. / I had a camera, hardly used and then only on full automatic. I had no idea how to work the wretched thing, it was all a mysterious mystery. / Then Joy Jones showed me an image, still within her camera. / It looked like a blade of grass – until she gradually expanded it, revealing masses of insect eggs. I was HOOKED. / Eventually I learned to use the macro settings. / The world of the tiny opened up to me. I began to SEE when I looked. Things I hadn’t noticed leapt out and screamed for attention. Two months later, on October 14th 2005, I took this photo of a bee feeding on a bramble blossom. I hadn’t realised how exquisitely beautiful a bee’s face is, how complex, the textures, shapes and colours. I was HOOKED. / Then there was the fly blowing a bubble. Why? How did he do it? Do ALL flies do this? What about other insects? / And just exactly which fly, wasp, bee, hoverfly have I captured on camera? Things to learn, books to buy. I was HOOKED. / Over the years, many subjects have claimed my attention & interest, none have snared me in quite the same way, so deeply. Most have been passing fads. This is serious. / I don’t understand any of the technical twiddly bits. My “technique” is still point, click, view, hope, delete – sometimes it works. But I have fun, great fun. / Some one told me macro photography is the easiest form. That may well be true, but what a wonderful world is revealed. / I have met delightful people, some in reality, many online. Some have become dear friends, precious beyond words. This was the first time I had met them, we came from Canada, Australia, Tonga and Thailand to bond as a family in New Zealand. The holiday was so amazing, what beautiful people, I was accepted with open arms and welcomed as an ‘Artist’. / Although to the onlooker this is just a big busy mess of colour and texture, to those of us who were united in NZ, we are all represented in this special artwork.
