August 6th, 2003 / On the anniversary of the bombing of Hiroshima (August 6th), they hold a ceremony in which lanterns are sent floating along the Motoyasu-gawa River, in front of the A-bomb Dome. The lanterns used to float out to ocean. Nowadays they are caught down river for environmental reasons. This is done in remembrance of those whose lives were lost and in hopes that all nuclear weapons will be destroyed. I arrived in Hiroshima a bit late on the 6th so unfortunately I missed of the action around the Peace Park but there had been speeches and demonstrations. The floating of the lanterns lasted for 3 hours. / It was a somber evening and a beautiful expression in the struggle for the worldwide disarmament of nuclear weapons, if not world peace and a clear reminder of what the opposite can lead to.

As I’ve just uploaded Chameleon II, I thought I’d show you Chameleon I as well.
2003 was a good year for discovering my old old version of Poser would export to Bryce. A bit of Salvidor Dali influence it seems, and maybe a hint of Robert Williams…
Really just a shot of an advertisment on Londons Tube, taken in 2002 with an Olympus Miu which is still one of my favourite cameras of all time though alas now its broken. The camera worked well for a compact in low light giving you an option of a slow setting in one or other of its mode forms. I have a digital version now but still think the analogue was the best. This photo provided me with food and flights when I was broke so I like it for that at the least. Sold again and again.
David was playing the part of a young gravedigger in director Conor McMahons rural horror film “Dead Meat” where mad cow disease has infected the local population turning them into, well you guessed it flesh eating Zombies. This was Day 1 for David and he was just dressed up in rural garb about to fling himself in front of a car when I took this portrait of him in the fairy woods of Leitrim. / I love this portrait as it is timeless or more to the point it harks back to the Golden age of movie heroes and stars and David is one here.
THIS HAS BEEN FEATURED IN THE CASTLE MAGIC GROUP – 20th May 2009
This shot’s a bit special to me, it was taken with a digital compact camera. It was a last minute decision to go and watch HM Bark Endeavour leave Whitby, I wasn’t expecting much. / The night was special, hundreds of people lined the harbour, Endeavour give a salute with it’s canons as the crowds cheered. The sun was sinking, but put a warm glow over the whole affair. I took some photos as she sailed out and then dashed to the end of the harbour. There was too many people, so I climbed on to a rubbish bin to get a last few shots, the people framed it beautifully…. At the time I hadn’t realised that this may be Endeavour’s last visit.. will it return home… HM Bark Endeavour Set
This is an interesting history. He was purchased as a small cub for “photographs”.. you know, you pay your money and get to pose with a “cute and cuddly” little cub. Well, the problem there is that they do grow up. And Jax was surrendered to Noah’s just because he got to big. / I truly hope that another message comes through.. that these animals DO NOT MAKE GOOD PETS.. that’s why places like Noah’s are in existence. If people would just think before they buy that cute LITTLE cub.. life would be easier on all of us especially the animals. After all.. they didn’t ask to be in the situation they are.. and there are far to many unscrupulous people out there that are in it for the money.. / At least with education, we might make a little difference.. even if we save just one animal.. it’s a beginning!! / All proceeds from any sales will be donated to Noah’s Lost Ark Sanctuary for the care and feeding of the animals. Photograph by Nina Wolf, with her permission.
Every year before the anniversary of the bombing of Hiroshima schools make it a project to fold a thousand origami cranes to be placed near the children’s memorial. With each participating school sending a thousand cranes there are quite a lot of them on display. / It is a Japanese custom that if a person folds a thousand cranes they are granted a wish, of course in this case the wish is for world peace and a worldwide disarmament of nuclear weapons.
.... here’s a watercolour I did earlier :) 2003 to be precise.
Kaiju Art Series Kaiju is a Japanese word that means “mysterious creature”, but usually translated in English as “monster”.
Did I offend you? My work here is done, then.
I have been taking photos for a long time, this series is to show previous works, please not these are taken on a crappy old digital SLR so quality is not there but you can see the idea Harbour Bridge – Old Series 2003
Another shot of the Endeavour leaving Whitby.. how I wish I had a digital SLR at the time, in truth I’m just glad to have been there, even if I only had my compact camera.. HM Bark Endeavour Set / I’ve made the mistake of posting this twice, but as people have been kind enough to comment on it, I am leaving it as is :-)
