This portrait was to my boy friend Hansen so he’d remember me. I left him in a Chinese restaurant because I felt he didn’t love me. I regret that now but that’s life- a bit unpredictable sometimes. / I’m not very domestic so my mother had given me an iron and ironing board. So I put it to good use in this photo.

Black & White in Charcoal / High Resolution Photo / Has been Printed in Canvas / Prefer cards printed on Arondo Donax *My daddy always sent me cards and notes when he traveled around the world, he loved Bolivia, Peru, Phillipines & Maui. He would send me poems on cafe napkins or beautiful artwork from around the world, sharing with me the beauty he saw. I was with a group of people when i drew this and it was an amazing experience watching it appear on the paper in no more than 20 minutes like i had drawn it from one of those magic pads from the late 70’s, where you just scribble over the page and an image appears. it is my favorite to this day for that reason, and technically it was super difficult to leave the white feathers appear while drawing around the blank paper the detailed tangled bramble of roots.

I have spent many a happy hour in this building. Here below is the first version of this drawing that I did in 1989. I later showed it to a professional artist, who commented that it was a good drawing, but possibly spoiled by my inclusion of the bus shelter and the lamp posts, which were obscuring the view somewhat. I patiently sat down and, over about ten or twelve hours (in two hour sessions) I repeated the drawing … minus the obscuring parts. That was when i learned the valuable lesson that artists don’t have to include EVERYTHING :) I used Rotring Isograph pens by the way.
