  • To the Chinese the Tiger is said to be lucky, vivid, lively and engaging. Renowned for their incredible bravery and willingness to engage in battle it is often wondered if a Tiger is so brave because he is so lucky. It is said that having a Tiger in the house is the very best protection against the evils of fire and burglary. The Year of the Tiger is the third in the Chinese astrological cycle following the Year of the Ox and recurs every twelfth year. Though the starting day of the year may vary the majority of people born in the years 1914, 1926, 1938, 1950, 1962, 1974, 1986 and 1998 are Tigers Tigers do not find worth in power or money. Completely honest about what they feel they expect the same of you. They seek approval from peers and family. Because of their charming personalities Tigers are usually well liked. Failing at a given task or being unproductive in personal or professional life can cause a Tiger to experience a depression. Even more damaging is criticism from loved ones. Lke all felines, Tigers land on their feet, ready for their next act in life, pursuing it with unyielding energy and hunting to perfection. Tigers are relentlessly competitive – they cannot pass up a challenge, particularly if honor is at stake, or if protecting those they love. Tigers are unpredictable and it is fatal to underestimate their reactions. Even when appearing calm they may pounce without a moment’s warning. Always natural leaders, they have a strong sense of their own dignity, and when finding themselves members of the rank and file they can be stubborn and obstinate. In positions of power they are difficult though stimulating bosses. Tigers are intelligent, alert, and farsighted. Formidable enemies they are good strategists and tacticians always with a hidden agenda. Their only apparent weakness is they can risk their luck too often, and have great difficulty keeping their restless nature under control. More often than not their tactics pay off in life. The Chinese name for the Tiger is HU, the sign of courage. February is the month of the Tiger and as such the Western astrological counterpart is Aquarius. Tigers are known for courage, vehemence, self-Reliance, friendliness, hopefulness and resilience. Their weakness is vanity and a disregard for others. The Chinese character for the Tiger.

  • Wood Tiger 1914 and 1974 The Wood Tiger lacks the typical “I’m in charge here” attitude of most Tigers and is more adaptable at working with others. The Wood element adds stability, gives warmth of character and attracts friends, making the Wood Tiger a very popular person. Never selfish people. Wood Tigers will give their time, attention or possessions to anyone in need. They bring a practicality to any issue especially problem solving. Some how they manage to control their urge to assume command of a situation and allow others an opportunity to do some of the work. Everyone working or living with Tigers needs to be aware of their volatile tempers and short attention spans. When Wood Tigers lose control they will cause co-workers and loved ones undue pain. No doubt about it Tigers are incredibly sexy people, beautiful and sensually romantic. Creative and spontaneous lovers they never lose their creative spark or flare for an evening of passion. Their partner is always exposed to a hint of danger and the curiosity of the unknown. A Tiger once committed will want to dominate and lead you. This natural nurturing mechanism if left unchecked will lead to complete control. This is one controlling and negative effect a Tiger can have on their partner, as opposed to the myriad of positive elements they bring to a relationship, trust, passion, politeness and spontaneity to name only a few. Tigers love excitement and require a partner who can keep up with all they want to see and do. The potential partner for a Tiger must be able to stand the random mood swings, the ups and downs, the good with the bad. Wood signs are nourished by Water Signs, consumed by Fire signs, chopped by Metal Signs. Earth will be pushed aside by Wood Signs With just these few simple concepts the Wood Tiger can seek the partner of their greatest compatibility In matters of love Wood Tigers fare best with the Horse, Dog and Pig.. Avoid the Monkey, Snake and Ox.. In short marry a Water Horse and avoid the Fire Ox. To the Chinese the Tiger is said to be lucky, vivid, lively and engaging. • The only movie i was ever in, 1974, i was 17. The movie was “Smile” & it stars Bruce Dern & Barbara Feldon (she was in the great T.V. series “Get Smart” 1965 to 1969, she was Agent 99). There were auditions for extras in Santa Rosa, Ca where i live now (i was living in Sebastopol, 7 miles away at the time, my birth city), so i went, & actually got called back a few weeks later. It was a tremendous lot of fun, the movie is about a beauty pageant and most of the extras, like me, were contestants & had to learn dance moves. Bruce Dern took a real liking to me, & got me a small speaking role, my line was something like “i just like to help people”, & he wanted to make sure i got to wear my overalls in some of the scenes. We got paid minimum wage & i think we worked for 3 weeks.

  • Lego recreation of Ian Bradshaw’s 1974 photograph of streaker Michael O’Brien at Twickenham during the England-France rugby match.

  • Lou Reed in concert Sydney Australia, from my “Dead ‘N’ Alive” exhibition set. / One of a series of photographs I took in my early days of photography. / All shot on film using a Nikormat FTN. A wonderful hard working film camera. / In those days there was little or no security and no “Crash Barriers”, so I would make my way to the front of the stage and shoot. / Scanned from the original negatives or transparencies. This was Lou’s first trip to Australia and in many ways no-one knew what to expect. “Transformer” was a recent hit and from memory “Berlin” had just come out. Also available as an image in my redbubble calendar / / and a t-shirt:

The morning of this eruption we had a mild earthquake, a warning that Kilauea was going to put on quite the display soon. We headed up the Volcano’s National Park and upon walking up to the viewing deck we were greeted with this awesome fissure of lava spewing into the air with such force. The heat was incredible. There were singe marks all over the exterior of the deck. The following day, the viewing deck was gone, consumed by fire from the intense heat. / © 2009 Rebecca Bryson. All Rights Reserved. • We found the Scots people very friendly on our travels, but slowly we began to understand that the clan system in Scotland was not to be under-estimated. We were told that this little cemetery on the Isle of Skye contained the graves of people who had died in clan fighting. We looked through it but saw nothing to indicate such happenings. It was now in an area where the crofters had long since gone in the “clearances”. so I guess it will slowly disappear. Taken with Pentax LX camera and 28 mm shift lens on Kodachrome film.

  • One evening few years ago I was walking at the Kings Cross suburb of Sydney. It was already dark, but a high-rise building above me did not have a single light in any of its 350 rooms. It was a somewhat scary to stand by this huge abandoned giant in a centre of the city. The sign on the top read “Millennium Hotel”. My mind started to picture apocalyptic stories about what might have happened to it in few years past the new millennium. I didn’t know that time that it was closed for the complete renovation. And here we go, $98m and few years later building is transformed into modern 37-storey Zenith Apartments tower. What a stunning view over the city it must be from its roof top. P.S. The Coca Cola Billboard is a character itself being the heritage-listed and largest billboard in the Southern Hemisphere. This is a vertical panorama or a vertorama as it is called sometimes. I took 2 sets of 3 AEB shots from a tripod (one centering on the Coke sign and another one for the top of the building). Those were later combined into a single HDR (4129×4720) and then tonemapped. • Featured in the First Things group. For the Your Oldest Shot Challenge. Made in July 1974 in Amboseli National Park in Kenya. The cheetah (Acinonyx jubatus) is an atypical member of the cat family (Felidae) that is unique in its speed, while lacking climbing abilities. The species is the only living member of the genus Acinonyx. It is the fastest land animal, reaching speeds between 112 and 120 km/h (70 and 75 mph) in short bursts covering distances up to 460 m (1,500 ft), and has the ability to accelerate from 0 to 103 km/h (64 mph) in three seconds, faster than most supercars. Recent studies confirm the cheetah’s status as the fastest land animal. The word “cheetah” is derived from the Sanskrit word citrakāyaḥ, meaning “variegated body”, via the Hindi चीता cītā. / Wikipedia IUCN Red List vulnerable species Original made on reversal film! / Camera: Canon SLR
