  • Nearly 40 years ago a movie was released that over the years has become cult classic. A dodgy remake later and the original movie is now the stuff of film legend with great action sequences and stunts and some superb one-liners from a cracking cast. The stars of The Italian Job were three Mk1 Austin Mini Cooper S’s, in red, white and blue of course. $4 Million through a traffic jam, hang on a minute lads, I’ve gotta great idea …Lads…Lads…

  • The press loved the Mini on it’s launch in 1959, but sales were unimpressive, but when well known celebrities such as Paul McCartney and Twiggy became owners that the sales went through the roof. I’m pretty sure the Italian Job also had plenty to do with sales post 1969. The scene where the robbers’ Minis are chased through a sewer tunnel were filmed in the Sowe Valley Sewer Duplication system in the English city of Coventry.

  • An illustration of a guitar, peace symbol and dove. A tribute to the Woodstock Music and Art Fair of 1969.

  • This is an image of an old car infront of the Sydney Harbour Bridge, I turned it into a mono pic through Lightroom as I wanted the feel of 1969.

  • Here’s me beside my Phillips B & W TV Christmas Day 1969.

  • The summer of 1969 was a time of change. It was the year of the Beatles swansong, the first manned moon landing, and hippies protested and clashed with the establishment over U.S. involvement in Vietnam. On a dairy farm in the town of Bethel in upper state New York, the greatest musical and cultural event of the millenium happened. The Woodstock Music & Arts Fair, billed as an Aquarian Exposition, was held during the weekend of August 15th through the 17th. Starring thirty top names in popular entertainment, the Woodstock Festival’s attendance was unprecedented for the time / Attendance estimates vary from source to source, ranging anywhere from about 75,000 on the low side, to well over 1,500,000 on the high side. The best guess, which is close to the average of all estimates, would be between a third to a half million people. It’s impossible to determine exact numbers, as the fences around the site were never completed in time, so tickets were never taken – it was a free concert. / For “three days of peace & music” Woodstock was a living, breathing, working city. In the last great multi-day music festival of our time, the young people showed the world that all those hippies could co-exist for a prolonged period of time without a catastrophe (and with little or no police intervention). / THE ARTISTS that made history… / Richie Havens / Sweetwater / Bert Sommer / Tim Hardin / Ravi Shankar / Melanie / Arlo Guthrie / Joan Baez / Quill / Country Joe McDonald / John B. Sebastian / Keef Hartley Band / SANTANA / Incredible String Band / Canned Heat / Grateful Dead / Creedance Clearwater Revival / Janis Joplin / Sly & the Family Stone / The WHO / Jefferson Airplane / Joe Cocker / Country Joe & the Fish / Leslie West/Mountain / Ten Years After / The Band / Johnny Winter / Blood, Sweat & Tears / Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young / Paul Butterfield Blues Band / Sha Na Na / Jimi Hendrix / Joni Mitchell As we approach the 40th Anniversary of the “Summer of 1969”, I thought it fitting to Launch a special challenge for our Musically Inspired Artists of MIA ~ the reason for this artwork… / Created with Wacom Pen in Photoshop with the exception of the original Woodstock poster in the center, using Redfield plug-in Fractilius filter, Poster edges and saturation filtering. • It is amazing to realize that 40 years have passed since the event of a lifetime…the Woodstock Music Festival in upstate New York…the Summer of 69…the summer that changed the world. I was only 16 that summer and still living in Texas….way too far away to convince my parents that I really needed to be there… ;-) Now, 40 years later, the Spirit of Woodstock is alive and well….the music, the coming together, the Peace, Love & Happiness state of mind will live forever…. For the MIA ‘Woodstock-Summer of 69-40 Years!’ Challenge Beautiful People by Melanie is a song which still touches my heart in a very profound way…if you’ve never heard it, give it a listen…it is the Essence of Love. Beautiful people / You live in the same world as I do / But somehow I never noticed / You before today / I’m ashamed to say Beautiful people / We share the same back door / And it isn’t right / We never met before / But then / We may never meet again / If I weren’t afraid you’d laugh at me / I would run and take all your hands / And I’d gather everyone together for a day / And when we’re gather’d / I’ll pass buttons out that say / Beautiful people / Never have to be alone / ‘Cause there’ll always be someone / With the same button on as you / Include him in everything you do. Beautiful people / You ride the same subway / As I do ev’ry morning / That’s got to tell you something / We’ve got so much in common / I go the same direction that you do / So if you take care of me / Maybe I’ll take care of you Beautiful people / You look like friends of mine / And it’s about time / That someone said it here and now / I make a vow that some time, somehow / I’ll have a meeting / Invite ev’ryone you know / I’ll pass out buttons for / The ones who come to show / Beautiful people / Never ever have to be alone / ‘Cause there’ll always be someone / With the same button on as you / Include him in ev’rything you do / He may be sitting right next to you / He may be a beautiful people too / And if you take care of him / Maybe he’ll take care of you / ‘Cause all of the beautiful people do / And you’re all beautiful people too

  • What a buzz, eh?

  • Easy Rider 1969

  • Ok….my ‘Woodstock is 40’ Tee apparently infringed on Woodstock’s ‘intellectual rights’, so I have tweaked the design because I really like it and because I want to honor and celebrate, this, the 40th anniversary of that wonderful Summer of Peace, Love and Music….. Woodstock—Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young

  • The Summer of 69 was quite a bittersweet time…. / Here in the USA, 500,000 people celebrated Peace & Love for 3 days at the Woodstock Music Festival…..Half a world away, in Viet Nam, almost that many soldiers were fighting in a conflict that caused unprecedented controversy in our country. / Many served…..many died…many became prisoners and many are still missing to this day. / This design was created to honor them all….lest we forget the sacrifices they made for our freedom…. Inspired by my good friend, KJ Gordon Some Gave All-Billy Ray Cyrus / Vietnam Song-Country Joe & the Fish
